"Just returned from a 4 night break at Seashell Cottage with our family."
Cottage was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Having the beach so nearby was also very nice. The beds were the most comfortable we've ever slept in in all of our years staying in various cottages. Parking wasn't so easy with time restrictions but we did manage to work around it. All in all we had a lovely break, the weather was nice and the area is beautiful.

"Lovely comfortable historic cottage and well equipped."
Cosy and warm as we booked for March/early April which is still quite early in the season. Great to be able to see the sea from the main bedroom which was very smart. Plenty of bedding, comfortable beds and a quiet neighbourhood for a good nights sleep.Everything was very handy, seafront, shops, station and supermarkets. Our grown up family managed ok in the smaller bedrooms (they came for the long Easter weekend) and also with the one bathroom. Had to use the stool for fifth person at the dinner table! Loved the patio area, although we didn’t sit out there it makes the whole cottage feel light and airy. The stairs are steep as listed, but the set that are carpeted felt much safer! We came for walks and plenty of sea air! Weather although unsettled at times did not stop us doing anything we had planned. Deal, Sandwich, Kingsdown, White Cliffs walk from Dover, all very nice. Would recommend “Goose on the Green” in Walmer for brunch.

"This was our second stay at Seashell Cottage."
We loved it as much this time as we did on our first stay.
It is near the town, near the sea and importantly for us near The Royal Hotel, which is a family favourite.
The cottage is warm, well stocked and extremely welcoming. The owner responds quickly to any concerns and questions.
We will definitely be returning to this little piece of paradise.

"The info from the owner prior to arrival was amazing."
Location - almost on the beach was brilliant - late at night you could actually hear the waves crashing into the beach. Parking - no issue.
Cottage - lovely just as described right down to the challenging stairs . The only problem with the cottage was the bathroom which really let the place down - dirty /old grouting behind the sink - poor anti slip bath mat - shower over bath not very effective turned hot/cold without warning if someone ran another tap - shower over bath so awkward for getting in/out especially as no additional hand rails to stop you slipping - tiling /grouting around base of toilet a bit ugh . Basically the bathroom really let the cottage down as everywhere else in the cottage was lovely and so comfortable.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming clean and comfortable cottage."
We had everything we needed. It was lovely to be lulled to sleep by the rolling of the waves which we could also hear from the little sheltered courtyard. Plenty of good places to eat and drink all within walking distance. It was nice not to have to go to a supermarket thanks to good quality reasonably priced local shops. Seashell Cottage was the perfect base for a relaxed stay.

"Location is great, instructions/listing are accurate and helpful in gaining access to and making use of the facilities in the Property however we felt the need to wash glasses/cutlery etc before using them as some did not come out of the cupboard very clean."
Some kitchen cupboards and drawers would benefit from a spring clean as they weren't in the freshest condition either so we decided to keep cutlery, plates etc on the side during our stay after we had washed it which was not ideal.
I notice other reviews did not have similar issues so this may have been a case of a former guest not treating the place with the care it deserves or the short notice of our booking but it reflects our experience. We did not contact the owner in relation to these things as our stay was only short, over the new year break and we were just as capable of remedying or working around them as they would have been.
In terms of comfort the dining table is relatively small for a larger group (with only 4 chairs) and there were some marks on the sofas but beds are a good size and seemed clean and comfortable.

"Had instructions to place purple rubbish bag outside cottage on Thursday evening but not collected til 9."
15. At 5am bag had been torn apart by seagulls. No food was in there but contents were strewn down the road and I had to rebag. Perhaps instructions could be to put bag out by 8am.

"Quirky cottage in a quirky town."
The cottage was just lovely. We managed to park close by and didn't drive again untill we left. The rail station was a ten minute walk. Many restaurants,pubs and takeaways all within easy reach.

"This is a little gem of a cottage."
Seashell cottage is in the perfect location, fairly quiet area and a short walk to the shops, bars and restaurants. The fantastic, beautifully clean seafront is two minutes from the front door. I loved strolling over with my morning coffee watching the sunrise.
As advised the stairs are steep but a small price to pay for such comfortable accommodation in my opinion, seriously the best sofas and armchairs we’ve experienced in holiday lets.
We will definitely be returning to Deal and this cottage.

"We had a lovely time!"
In a quiet area but just across road to beach! Not far into town, about 5-10 minutes walk where there are a lot of independent shops and cafes! The pier isn't far to walk to either with a restaurant at the end! There are buses to Dover and Canterbury, and the train station is about 15 minute walk with trains to Folkestone, Dover and Ramsgate where you can change for other trains to places like Margate!! You are also in quick reach of London for a change of scenery!! The house is also lovely and cosy, plenty of settees and the shower is really good!! We had some lovely quiet days just looking round Deal as a lot to see!!! Will be going back to the area again!!!

"Seashell cottage, is a little gem situated 2 minutes from the beach."
There is free car parking if you drive past North Street.
We are a very diverse family ageing from 87 down to 5.
All had a lovely time.
This was our second visit.
The local shops are fabulous and we ate several meals out which were all very good.
The cottage is very well equipped and provides everything you need for a comfortable stay.
We will be back.

"Lovely, cosy cottage in a perfect location."
The beds were so comfy. Would not recommend for young children due to steep stairs and downstairs bathroom but fine with older kids. Kitchen had everything we needed. The location is fantastic with the beach so close and a short walk to the town centre. We found free parking nearby. It was nice not to use the car for a long weekend as enough to do in walking distance. Great communication from the owner with good recommendations for local cafes. Highly recommend.

There is free parking on the seafront when you turn left at the bottom of North st BUT you just have to get lucky as it’s always full... I hate to think what it’s like in the summer!
Also, there are 2 staircases in seashell cottage.. one should be avoided by small children or people a little unsteady on their feet as they’re just glossed wood and very slippery.. both very steep and twisty as you’d expect in a old cottage but I told my children to avoid the glossed wood staircase because I didn’t want any accidents.
Also cleaning needs to be stepped up, I found some dodgy looking stains on a mattress protector and lots of cobwebs in the property not to mention dirty plates and an oven that I needed to clean before using.
Seashell cottage is set in a great location and there’s lots to see in Deal, the cottage is well equipped too. I would return here but definitely not in the summer as I don’t think we’d get parking.

"Very nice cottage, just 30 yards to the beach."
Good facilities, comfortable beds, excellent Wi-Fi and TV. Well recommended. The steep stairs are mentioned in the description, but I think it needs to be added in particular that the bottom of the stairs are on a turn with narrow steps. We were fine with them but I'm sure some might find them difficult. Parking also could be an issue at busy times, we were ok and were able to park in the square at the bottom of the road every time.

Deal is a very pretty town with artisan shops and galleries. There are plenty of places to eat and interesting pubs. We hired bikes and cycled along the seafront to the cliffs of Dover.

"Fabulous cosy little cottage that kept us and our glfuve year old comfortable and amused during our three night stay."
It's a very quaint and charming cottage centrally located a stone's throw away from the seafront and a short walk to the town's high street. The only negatives were that there are two sets of steep stairs going to the rooms and the bathroom is located downstairs. Aside from this, this quaint cottage was perfect in every way. Thank you Mark for making our stay so homely and comfortable

The location was excellent. The caretaker's responses to a couple of queries were courteous and above prompt. It would be good to fix the fridge hinges and the squeeky bedroom doors. Also it would be good to describe clearly that the third bedroom is in fact a bed on a landing area which must be accessed to reach the other bedrooms and to install a black out or dark blind above the bed in that landing.

The hot water was back on the following day. Cottage suited us very well and the memory foam mattress very comfortable - very much want to get one now!

"Lovely cosy cottage in a great location."
We spent a great week there over Christmas and the tree and decorations were much appreciated. Easy walking distance to the town centre and some lovely pubs and restaurants. Sunday lunch at the Bohemian was a highlight. The beds were really comfortable and the log burner made the evenings really cosy. We didn’t have any trouble finding a parking space nearby. It’s maybe worth noting that the fridge is quite small. Probably not normally an issue unless you get carried away with a large Xmas sainsbury delivery. There is a garden/pet shop just round the corner where you can buy top up logs and kindling and a handy corner shop within 5 mins walk.

"The cottage is wonderful and so near the sea that you can smell it!"
We had a great holiday a big part of that was the location of the cottage in the old part of town and across the road from the sea, as well as the quaintness of the cottage. Yes the ceilings are low, stairs tight, but all as expected. No parking outside but hey, loads of free paring to the north of the street, never was an issue. Deal is lovely, loads to see, loads of pubs and restaurants. Perfectly sited to explore Kent. We went to Ramsgate, Margate, Canterbury, Dover, plus lots of smaller villages. Caught the last gasp of summer, could not have been better.

Had all I needed for the week. Comfortable, well-equipped, light and airy, access to courtyard (not that need it with beach so close!). Excellent cottage. Deal is a friendly place and easily struck up conversations with people.. Peaceful but with just enough going on to keep interest for the week.

"What a great holiday."
Seashell Cottage was everything we had hoped for. We were a party of 2 adults and 3 grown up kids (17, 21 & 21) and so we expected to be a little tight for space but we were so happy to find that the bedrooms were great and even the smaller one was ample. The cottage was so quaint, lovely and characterful and the kitchen facilities were great (even had a utility area adjacent to the courtyard).
This is a fantastic location to make the most of the beach whilst having easy access to everything Deal has to offer and we are hoping to make this our holiday destination again soon.

The property
A charming, quirky terraced fisherman's cottage situated in the Deal Conservation Area, only 30 yards from the beach and within a few minutes' walk to the centre of Deal.
Comfortably furnished, this Deal cottage dates back to 1801 and offers an ideal base for families and friends wishing to explore this part of the Kent coastline.
The well-equipped kitchen at this Deal cottage looks onto a dining area and sitting area, offering a welcoming place to relax whatever the time of year.
Each side of the inglenook fireplace in this Deal cottage are staircases which lead up to the bedrooms, and to add to its quirky character, all three rooms are interlinked by doors, and you can hear the sea from two of the bedrooms, meaning you can drift off to sleep to the sounds of the sea lapping on the shoreline.
On long summer evenings, step into the courtyard garden at this Kent cottage where you can enjoy a glass or two, or maybe a spot of alfresco dining.
You can be paddling in the sea or fishing from the beach in just a minute's walk, or treading along the famous Middle Street with its well-worn cobbles under which are the tunnels used by smugglers to bring in the 'booty'; right under the eyes and feet of the Custom Men.
Deal is now more famous for its bistro and bars, quaint shops and shoreline, museums and markets, and of course no visitor should leave the town without visiting one of the castles.
All of this and more are on the doorstep of this lovely Deal cottage.

Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses within a 30 minute journey, but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number 1 coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
