"This was a pleasant cottage in a lovely area."
One or two issues to note: The sofas in the sitting room were not particularly comfortable. The heating was controlled remotely, this meant that we could not turn it up or down as we needed to. Parking was at times difficult. Apart from that the cottage was comfortable and well equipped. We felt it was very good value for money. Very kind of Hilary to leave us iced buns and dog biscuits, much appreciated by all! Thank you!

"Lovely well appointed cottage."
Kitchen was well supplied though a wooden spoon and a casserole dish would have been helpful. Loved the automatic lights on the stairs, very helpful in the middle of the night.
Thank you for your comments and your email; Hilary, Just a quick email to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Castle Cottage. The dog stuff was a nice thought - we didn't use it as my daughter always comes fully equipped for her Hearing Dog. Even the weather didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. Thanks again. Regards John I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay in Saltwood Property Owner

"Wonderful little cottage and delightful lady we had a small issue on arrival all dealt with within the hour ."
Thankyou for all your knowledge on the area, pebbly beach 5mins, sandy beach 15mins, arcades freshest fish/seafood. Only place wouldn't return to was pub/hotel at end of road food definitely not upto standard, so much not available and what was was awful, But waiter was as helpful as he could be. Overall a fantastic time fun had by all would love to return thanks again
Thank you for your feedback. I'm really pleased that you had a fun filled few days. I look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

"Thank you for a enjoyable last minute stay, we would have liked longer."
The cottage is very clean and comfortable, even for our dog! We were left milk and buns, as well as a welcome card. The coffee pods were generous and helpful too. Everything was supplied for our arrival. Just maybe it would have been good to know the coffee machine needs to be watched, so it doesn't overflow. The sofas could have been larger, but I'm knit picking. It is a lovely little cottage, we hope to book again, as we have local family. I thoroughly recommend Castle Cottage.
Thank you for feedback. I look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

"Castle Cottage was a wonderful place to stay for our 2 week visit to Saltwood/Hythe."
The cottage is immaculate and the facilities were just what was needed. There were treats and bowls for Max our dog and walks straight from the door. The Castle pub serves good pub food and the shop stocks everything in a very small space! Loads to do and see in Hythe and the Royal Military canal is a must for a walk and the narrow gauge steam train to Dungeness is compact but great fun. We discovered Folkestone on our last day and it was well worth it - the Harbour Arm and old Railway Station area is a wonderful and imaginative example of regeneration.
Thank you for such lovely comments; for your note; and thank you for tending the plants. Property Owner

"A delightful stay."
The cottage was comfortable and cosy and had everything you could need. The garden is a little on the small side but there are plenty of walks in the area including Brockhill Country Park a little way around the corner.
Thank you for your comments. I am thrilled that you had such a lovely time Property Owner

"Castle cottage is a lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful area."
Everyone we met in the village was friendly and said hello. There are footpaths and bridleways for exploring on foot and lots of amazing historical sites within easy reach by car. The cottage is snug and tidy with everything you need (although a frying pan would be a useful addition). Hilary the owner is lovely and was very helpful and understanding when we had to contact her. We had a very nice short break and didn’t want to leave.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I have noted your comment, and realise a larger frying pan will be useful. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage in a beautiful village."
Very warm and welcoming with everything we needed provided. It has been decorated to a high standard and quality finishes. We were only booked for 3 nights but would love to return for a longer stay. It is in a really good location to either walk into Hythe along canal and beach or to the Country Park nearby. Thank you Hilary for making our break go so well and for the welcome package.
Thank you. I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. I hope you will get the opportunity to book a longer visit. Property Owner

"Very well presented cottage with a friendly owner."
We were staying for work in area Heating is operated by the owner via hive app this is first time we have ever not been able to control temperature of house ourselves and we would never stay in a property that uses this system. The owner was very helpful but cottage was freezing at times and we had to message to have heating put on. The bathroom is very cold. Stairs are steep. i would suggest owner lives for a week in property without direct access to phone to understand how it actual feels to have to request heating. Garden area was nice. No cleaning products for work surfaces etc or hoover provided.
Thank you for the positive feedback, it was a pleasure to meet you. I was sure that we had solved the heating queries when you arrived, and was happy with our dialogue during your stay when you felt the cottage temperature dipped below 22. I have noted your feedback and am happy to provide work surface cleaner, and a small cordless vacuum cleaner. Thank you Property Owner

"Overall we had a lovely stay at Castle Cottage."
The place was tidy and clean, and the owner very helpful. There has obviously been a lot of thought gone into the design of the cottage as a holiday home, and our dog was also made to feel very welcome with all the little extras. On a personal note, I found the property quite cold and the bathroom very cold at night. The heating was managed by the owner and was restricted in both time and temperature. Again, personally I didn’t find the beds comfortable and slept on top of the duvet to help with comfort. Also, the sofas look lovely, but are quite hard after a while. The kitchen was missing a few things, like measuring jug, casserole type dish for the oven, microwavable plates. The knives were very cheap and quite dangerous to use so didn’t bother with much cooking. Even with these small personal points, we had a lovely stay and enjoyed the quiet location and quaint village of Saltwood. The font and back gardens were enclosed and great for the dog. Parking was never an issue even though you couldn’t park outside, there was always space in the car park. Hilary was attentive and quick to communicate throughout, and I have no doubt would have resolved any issues we may have had.
Thank you for the feedback, all of which I have noted, and will address. I'm delighted that you, and your dog, enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

"On the whole, Castle Cottage suited us well."
We wanted a base for visiting local National Trust & English heritage properties. However, as also mentioned by a previous guest, we found the settees in the front room rather uncomfortable. Also, the picture on the TV seemed very dull. We had a go at trying to improve the brightness, but couldn't make any difference. The cooking and eating equipment was great in general, but we would have preferred to have some cereal-bowls. The ones provided were rather shallow. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm not sure how to solve the sofa issue, as they are new; at the start of the season. I have purchased cereal bowls, as requested, and purchased a replacement TV. Property Owner

"A charming and comfortable pied-a-terre with all the most useful conveniences."
We particularly enjoyed the village setting, proximity to the friendly Castle Hotel, and the front and back gardens (really helpful in the heatwave). The visitors'\guide folder was up to date and helpful, and the owner's suggestions for local facilities, such as walks, were really useful. Friendly neighbours.
Thank you for your feedback. I feel privileged to have contributed towards your stay in our part of Kent. Property Owner

"No Info on whether there was a recycling bin or glass bin."
Personally we found sofas extremely uncomfortable. Other than that our stay was faultless as we had everything there that we needed. Nice touch with the little extras such as shampoo ect and welcome cakes and washing powder.
Thank you. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. Also thank you for your comment regarding recycling. I will definitely have to add recycling bins info to the Information folder. Property Owner

"We had a wonderful stay at Castle Cottage."
Parked the car and didn’t take it out again until we came home home which is just what we needed. There are some amazing walks right from the cottage and we covered about 10 miles a day (poor dog was exhausted !). The roads to Hythe are steep to start the walk back but with all the twittens even out nicely. There are walks around the castle which make a beautiful evening stroll. The country park up the road is another nice walk from cottage and around. The cottage was great - nice and clean and everything you need was right there. The stairs are steep especially the night when heading down for a wee, but you get used to it. Will definitely stay there again.
Thank you. I look forward to welcoming you in the future. Property Owner

"An extremely well equipped and comfortable cottage."
Just be aware as with these older buildings the stairs to bedrooms are quite steep, but the sensor controlled light fittings were a brilliant idea, as the bathroom is located downstairs. Village Pub located a short walk away, handy! Really enjoyed the stay, and it was only £6 each way for a taxi into Hythe to go for an evening meal, as the Restaurant in the village, other than the pub was Michelin starred and very pricey , a meal for two with wine over £230 at least!, As we were on a short break, we could have cooked using the excellent pots etc provided by the cottage, but chose not to do so. Cottage also handy for village shop. Thanks very much to the owner, the little thoughtful touches like providing shampoo and shower gel with lovely fluffy towels were much appreciated and a pleasant surprise. Beds were very comfortable as well.
Thank you. I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

About the location
HYTHE
Folkestone 4.3miles; Channel Tunnel 4 miles; Dymchurch 6 miles; Dover 13 miles, Canterbury 20 miles.
Hythe is one of the five original Cinque Ports identifed by Edward the Confesssor as ports that would provide ships and sailors to protect this part of the English coastline from invaders, and in exchange the towns would retain all legal fees assigned in court cases. Of course this made these towns far more prosperous than most towns of the same size, and the result of this can still be seen by visitors when visiting Hythe. Running through the centre of the town is The Royal Military Canal. This was dug during the Napoleonic era as a defensive measure against possible French invasion. Now this lovey waterway is more popular with walkers and those taking a break from work; the grassy banks are a delightful place to picnic or sit and read. You can even hire a rowing boat and row yourself along the Canal and this unique part of Kent. A five minute stroll from the town and you will find yourself on the sea front. This wide promenade overlooks a long stretch of beach, with views over the English Channel to France, it is ideal for a summer picnic and safe bathing. Hythe offers visitors so much with golf, tennis, riding, bowls, squash, boating, windsurfing, freshwater and sea angling all available. Romney Marsh lies west of the town and can be explored by foot, car, bicycle or using the world's smallest public railway. Hythe is the eastern terminus for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway, so why not climb aboard and alight at Dungeness where you can visit the nature reserve, explore the lighthouse, and perhaps get a chance to see some painters and artists at work, before returning by the narrow gauge railway back to the delights of Hythe.
