  • "Enjoyed our holiday, cottage very comfortable & homely, beds comfortable, well equipped."

The clock chiming did not bother us at all. The listing on line was a bit confusing, Cherry Garden Cottage verses Dunk Cottage, also says take linen and towels, which we did only to find the beds were made up and the towels were in place. Very happy family holiday.

Dear Mrs Hockenhull, I am so pleased that you and your family had a lovely holiday. Apologies for the confusion over the name but I was recommended to list the cottage under a different name on the Sykes website for security reasons. Maybe this is not necessary... • "One of the first things that caught our eye was the numerous house plants around, and this really makes this property stands out, as this really is a home away from home."

We were unfortunate in one sense to experience very cold weather at the end of April 2024, but on the other hand, it meant that we spent a lot of time enjoying the cottage. We loved the view of the garden from the kitchen and the dining room (the bright red acer was gorgeous!). We all slept well (thanks for ear plugs!) - yes, the clock does strike on the hour every hour, but you do get used to it. The living areas are very well-appointed, and the window seat area with a dual aspect of the garden was a favourite. The kitchen was a joy to cook in. Oven gloves, tea towels, blue wipey clothes and 3 dishwashing tablets provided (plus we found clingfilm, foil and greaseproof paper). We used the fire everyday due to the unseasonable cold weather (logs £8.99 in the local shop – cheaper than the supermarket). Beds were super comfy, with great sheets and towels (which we always appreciate). House is super clean, and well-equipped – a real home away from home. We also used the Kent A-Z and their local OS maps, and they have a great range of books too. The location is super as lots of attractions within 30min. The Tesco “superstore” in Hawkhurst may be smaller than expected but had everything needed, plus Waitrose just opposite too. Tips for visitors: Local shop (2 min down the road) opens from 6.30am and has fresh croissants, and local produce (Sussex crisps). The telephone box library is pretty good too. Walk to the windmill, past the school opposite the petrol station. Farm shop Eggs and Apples & Hartleys (good jam donuts) recommended. Just mind the pot holes!

The house is in a beautiful setting, very spacious, comfortable beds, very well equipped, a perfect home from home! No problem from the clock tower, a gentle chime that we hardly noticed! Well positioned to explore many National Trust houses!

The cottage was very clean and warm and well equipped. The area has lots of interesting sites even open in November and the local walk to Bodiam Castle and the Castle Inn pub we enjoyed so much we did it several times! You also made our small dog very welcome with useful towels, extra bed, bowls etc. All in all an excellent stay.

  • "Charming cottage, gorgeous garden in a great location Really enjoyed the variety of local experiences nearby."

We visited Bodiam castle, Tillingham wines and explored St Leonard’s and Hastings. The cottage was a homely and comfortable retreat to return to, with the garden a beautiful spot to relax in. We all slept really well, including our young children! Appreciated the thoughtful gesture of local cherries on arrival.

Dear Mr Howell, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review. I am glad that you had such a relaxing stay with your children and appreciated the garden. It sounds like you had a busy time enjoying local excursions! I too love Tillingham Vineyard - the food there is also delicious. Best wishes, Helen. Property Owner

  • "Obviously not the owners fault but we did think the clock would stop chiming at midnight!"

! It didn’t. Should have asked before we booked I guess!! None of us slept because of it.. real shame as everything else was perfect. Ps. Would have been nice to have had some soap in bathrooms ( never had to buy that for every bathroom when we have rented other places!!)We arrived with everything else so had to make another trip to shop.

Dear Pauline, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am so sorry that you found the clock striking kept you awake. We have become so used to it ourselves that we wake up if, for some reason, it does not strike! However, I appreciate that it may affect some lighter sleepers so will make sure that I leave some ear-plugs available for future guests. For hygiene reasons, I do not leave soap usually and most guests prefer to bring their own but your point has been noted and I will definitely leave some in the bathrooms in case guests arrive without. Best wishes, Helen. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage in a very peaceful village setting."

The cottage is very well equipped for all your needs and is central to visit numerous interesting places in the immediate area. The cottage has a beautiful quiet garden for early evening drinks etc. We found the beds extremely comfortable which gave a great nights sleep after long days out travelling around site seeing. Supermarkets in the neighbouring village supplied when eating in although great pubs close by. We enjoyed our stay enough to extend our weeks trip by 3 additional days as we hadn't covered half of what we hoped to see. We would return with no hestition and hope to stop again in the near future and visit this part of the country.

Dear Mr Thrussel, Thank you for your kind review. I am so pleased that you had such a lovely time and look forward to welcoming you for your next visit. Best wishes, Helen Property Owner
