  • "Dovecote would have been a lovely place to stay probably a decade ago."

It is unfortunately now run down and shabby looking. Overall it radiates a lack of love injected into it, with no ornaments, pictures on the wall, tired looking decor...etc. The building itself and the surroundings are lovely, in a lovely location. We read the reviews, but because they were last years reviews, we hoped there would have been an improvement, and also we know that it is a personal preference and standards that lead to certain reviews. With a hindsight we wish we listemed to those reviews. Our first impression on arrival was the lovely oak front door, with its window pannel taped with a duck tape, that has clearly been there ages, as it is coming off. The kitchen is a bit dated, with a mish mash, dated equipment. It wouldn't cost much to get some decent crockery and cutlery, couple of nice mugs, cereal bowls, couple of nice pots and pans... The inside of the cupboards were not all that clean either. It would have helped to be provided with a dish cloth ( we bought it ourselves and used well!) The toilet seat was loose and came off couple of times. The bathroom on the whole was not all that clean, and shabby looking. There was a strong smell of drain in the bathroom and we pulled out a nasty clump of hair from the shower drain.... We were provided with blue, old looking towels. There is no wifi at the Dovecote, with poor satellite signal , so not a chance to watch a bit of TV without it glitching. The mattrace in the main bedrrom felt it had a dip, perhaps in need of replacing. The hot tub is nice touch but we felt like we needed to have a good shower aftetwards as the water didn't look all that clean. It did say to bring your own hairdryer, but it would not cost much to provide a small one, as well as soap for the bathroom. Perhaps some books, games and a folder with ideas and recomendations for trips would have make a difference? . A guess book to leave a message was not there either. The cottage really needs an investment to bring it up to standard. It lacks the cosiness and and comfort. And it is such a shame, as it is such a lovely building, it just needs the love that it deserves. We paid for 4 night stay but stayed only 3 nights, we felt it was enough here..

  • "Cottage was perfect for all our needs (4 adults and 1 dog) set in beautiful grounds and within easy reach of coastal resorts."

The cottage is cosy with lovely open plan layout and two double bedrooms. Very peaceful and relaxing few days.

  • "This is a beautiful place to stay and would definitely appreciate finer attention to detail for it to be totally on point."

Small things like curtains and blinds. These do not close properly, are thin, old fashioned, hanging on cheap, flimsy poles and curtain rings, which impact hugely on the light coming through. The bathroom is very dated, so lots of engrained limescale which then appears unclean. The main bed is very comfy but needs some attention cos it creeks a lot. The equipment in the kitchen is ok, but I’ve stayed at places before that have used basic items sold at Dunelm and they are a low cost but quality items, which this accommodation would benefit from. It feels like the home has a lack of love injected into it, yet the building and surroundings are beautiful and the location is great. On a whole I enjoyed my stay, but feel these small, yet important adjustments could really transform the reviews and peoples overall stay.

  • "Location and grounds are excellent (as long as there isn’t a big crowd in the manor or an event in the wedding venue)."

The Dovecote would have been fantastic after it was remodelled at least 10 years ago but is now a bit shabby and run down. The toilet flush button is broken and the toilet seat is loose, it needs a new bathroom. The oven didn’t work and we left a message but no reply. A ‘mish mash’ of crockery and cutlery all needs replacing and would’t cost much. Several light bulbs not working and windows need cleaning on the inside. There is no wifi at the Dovecote. With investment to bring it up to standard it would have been good value, but not in its current condition.

  • "Lovely cottage In beautiful surroundings."

Very secluded and dark at night as nobody in the Manor House. I was glad I had my dog to bark if anyone around. Not really suitable for someone on their own.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Dovecote cottage while visiting local sights."

Set in a quiet and a beautiful setting good distance away from local amenities. The cottage had all we needed for two adults and a young child, just enough space for us to relax after being out for the day. Kitchen had everything we needed for making breakfast, packed lunches and simple dinners.

  • "This is a lovely little cottage."

In the grounds of a larger Manor House but far enough away to feel individual. It’s small but had plenty of room for us and we are 2 adults and 2 kids. It’s cosy. The property would benefit from a better provisioned kitchen; cooking utensils, and kitchen equipment etc. Also the bathroom would benefit from a new shower head. The internet was a bit sketchy for us (e.g Netflix on the tv) we didn’t find any info with the wifi code but 4/5G works fine. Otherwise the perfect getaway. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

  • "Lovely cottage, beautiful area & great location."

We had a fab holiday & really enjoyed our stay. The owner was lovely & helped us with any problems we had. My only negative is some appliances were a bit past their best & a few fixings need fixing but this did not in anyway spoil our holiday. Would recommend

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay."

The Dovecote is situated in beautiful grounds. We took our own mobile WiFi so the lack of connection wasn't an issue for us. The manager of the manor house was very welcoming. We found that there many lovely places to visit nearby and our dog enjoyed walks on the beaches as we visited after the 30th September. A lovely place for a short break.

  • "Unable to stay in Dove Cote due to a water leak in the kitchen and bathroom ,at the last minute."

We were given the use of the manor house instead. This was an amazing place but much too big for the two of us.The above feedback is therefore based on the manor house not Dove Cote
