  • "Bungalow was spacious and comfortable."

It was equipped witth all the things you would need, to cater for six people, including all the pots, pans and serving dishes that would be required to prepare a full roast dinner. The conservatory was spacious and cosy on a sunny afternoon. The picture of the garden on the website seems to show an open garden and is an old photo. The garden is fully enclosed and dog proof and our dog was free to run around without the worry of her escaping. The roads in the immediate area are somewhat narrow in places but there are plenty of passing spaces. Richard the owner met us on arrival and was very friendly and helpful, making sure we knew about all the facilities available. We enjoyed our stay at Glynde, and wiil be rebooking next year.

  • "In general the property was not up to standard."

It needs a thorough deep clean. The clenliness of the toilet and en suite were particularly bad. this was pointed out to the owner. It was rectified but this should have been cleaned before we arrived. we took plenty of photos which are available if required. The conservatory leaked. All windows were very dirty and had bird droppings on them. Doubt very much that this property has been inspected by anyone recently. There were numerous other points that we found but didnt want to keep having the owner round. Having said that, the owner was personable but didny want to spend our holiday complaining to him. We dont feel that this property reaches the standard that you set out in your adverts.

Richard was great and we were able to get settled very quickly. The only thing that would have been helpful and included in the information leaflet would have been instructions on how to operate the TV. We got there in the end however. Would definitely recommend and expect we will be booking again for another family stay.

It was clean and tidy, big rooms and a conservatory where we spent most of our time. The kitchen was well-equipped. We made use of the garden when the weather allowed, didn't need to use washing machine or dishwasher. Owner Richard was incredibly helpful. My mum loved it there and we would like to go back next year, as there is still alot to explore in the area.

  • "Two major concerns was an electric coal effect fire just sitting on the lounge carpet when fire is on it gets very hot and there was no guard round it to stop kids picking pieces of the coals off the fire and touching the very hot fire when working and as fire is just sitting on top of the lounge carpet which the carpet gets very hot in front of fire and as the fire fits loosely against the wall there is nothing to stop children scalding them selves or pulling fire on top of themselves i class this as a very bad heath and safety issue and I looked everywhere for a fire guard and didn't see one anywhere."

The second very bad health and safety issue is in the second double bedroom which as 2 bedside cabinets both have a table lamp .the table lamp on left hand side of bed as an exstention lead plugged into another exstention lead from the lampon right side of the bed.the exstention lead which operates the lamp on left side of the bed is wedged in front of piece of wood which holds the headboard to the bed and is pushed between that and the mattress to stop the extension lead from falling to the floor which is highly dangerous as the front of the live exstension lead including the table lamp plug plus sll 3 sockets are pressed against the mattress and bedding if there was a power surge during someone's holiday while guests were sleeping I'd hate to thing of the consequences so someone needs to contact owners or send someone to see for themselves

I would like to thank you for highlighting your concerns. The electric fire has been in situ for more than 25 years and there has never been an incident or issue with it. Regarding small children I would hope the parents have a modicum of common sense. I remember, in the initial meeting I told Mr Smith if he was cold to put on the central heating. I reiterated this when I visited him regarding a chair and the fire was on, but he told me no need he just wanted the room heated. I will take this onboard and either remove the fuse or get a guard. The plug in the bedroom, I only assume the bed has moved to the plug during the cleaning. I have this property P.A.T. tested every year, if there was a problem they would have informed me. We would have appreciated it if you had raised your additional concerns with us at the same time you reported an issue with the chair in the property. If the issues had been reported, we would have been happy to assist or provide reassurance. Property Owner

The bungalow was clean, warm and spacious. The garden was perfect for our dog as it was large and secure. The beds were big and comfortable and the sofas were too. In every room there was everything you needed and the owner is generous with soap, loo rolls, kitchen rolls and so on that usually aren’t provided. Maybe instructions for using the TV would be helpful although we worked it out in the end.

  • "This property is an older bungalow which is dated."

It has suffered from a prolonged lack of care and maintenance and is not as shown in your website. In particular the outside and garden have not been maintained and are very overgrown. The bathroom facilities need updating. The en-suite is like a broom cupboard and could not be used by a large person. Both toilet seats are loose and the separate toilet seat is cracked and stained. The conservative roof leaks and is covered in moss. Both ladies were unable to open the door to the washing machine/tumble drier. The sunshade was unusable as the wind blew it around due to incorrect fixing to the base. The overhead light in the back bedroom did not work and is bound up with insulating tape which is unsafe. I have raised all the above points with the owner(Richard) who said he has been away and is not well but this means the poor occupier suffers his inefficiency. He did say he was sorry but this is no recompense to me! This property did not meet my standards and I suggest you inspect the property immediately as I am sure it would not meet yours. Unfortunately the owner is not able to maintain his property as he would wish at the moment. This is the first time I have used Sykes Cottages and unfortunately it may be the last. I have taken photographs but it seems I am unable to upload them to this webpage.

Glynde has been let for nearly four years and everything was updated and renewed other than the dining room set and the fitted wardrobes in bedrooms. The kitchen, bathrooms, lounge furniture and carpets were updated and the bungalow was repainted, some rooms were also redecorated again. The en suite bathroom and size of the layout cannot be changed but this is not something guests normally have a problem with. Most guests in fact have afforded us excellent reviews including top scores for comfort as reflected in their feedback on the advert. The toilets have been inspected and are intact, with no cracks found. Sunshades can move in windy weather and this is of course outisde an owner's control. The washing machine door is fully operational. Any weeds have been removed, this was delayed due to recent illness but has now of course been done. The conservatory roof has been checked recently during some bad weather and no leaks were found. Some moss can of course drop when it rains, and this is of course cleared periodically. The overhead lighting in the back bedroom is obsolete and there is no power to it, so I can reassure guests that there is no safety issue at all. I give a contact number out pre arrival and also always try to meet all guests on arrival - due to your delay I welcomed another of the guests - if you had contacted me at any point during your stay however, I would have been more than happy to help and I am sorry that you did not give me the opportunity to do so. The property itself is comfortable, with plenty of space and privacy. This said, there is little tourist information provided, which would have been useful. I appreciate that most people use the internet, but it is good to have local recommendations from local people. The utensils and kitchen equipment is somewhat dated, but functional, and the hot water tap in the kitchen, which just trickles, is in need of urgentlv attention. This area really needs modernisation. The kitchen was ok but could do with an upgrade and the dishwasher was very small for a property able to sleep six adults. The whole property gave the impression that it had received very little in the way of improvement and attention for some time. Unfortunately there were bees nesting in some of the garden furniture which we were therefore not able to use during our stay. The property owner was informed and the furniture moved further away from the house and we got the impression it was not the first time this had happened. The cottage was comfortable and the secure garden was great for our dogs, although as it was quite large, our blind dog took a little time to adjust. Obviously, this is not a negative comment, as it was a lovely garden. One comment on your website, there was a dishwasher at the property, but it was not listed, so I took no dishwasher tablets, and there were none there already. We bought some, but found the dishwasher a little temperamental, a couple of times it didn’t run. The walk up to the back of the property to view the goats was a bonus. Lastly, would suggest that Richard invest in a guest book. They’re always useful as they often give useful tips on places to go locally. The property

Deal 4.6 miles.

In the pretty hamlet of East Studdal, not far from the coastal town of Deal in Kent, is this fantastic bungalow, Glynde affording spacious and beautifully decorated accommodation.

Perfectly suited for a family not wanting to be too far from the coast, or perhaps a group of friends looking to explore the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Heading through the front door after a day of exploring stunning scenery and fresh air, rest those tired legs and get comfy on the three-piece leather sofa suite, on a cold day switch the electric fire on for some extra warmth and settle in front of a film.

About the location

DEAL

Dover 8.5 miles; Canterbury 19.3 miles.

Deal is an historic, Georgian coastal town boasting two castles, both open to the public, two small museums, and two markets held weekly. The town offers restaurants with cuisine ranging from the traditional, to exotic delicacies from the Orient, but, if fish is your desire then why not catch your own by enjoying a spot of fishing from the beach or pier? Deal Castle is an ideal place for children to explore, rugged and exciting with audio guides to help you get the best information, whilst taking in this impressive castle built in the time of Henry VIII. Walmer Castle, which became the home of The Duke of Wellington, and was the late Queen Mother's favourite, is just along the coast with gardens and tea rooms open from April until October, and their scones are highly recommended! Deal was the most important Naval base in Britain during the Age of Sail and although long gone, its maritime heritage is still inherent in its Conservation Area architecture and house names. Deal became a smuggler's paradise during the 1700s, and heritage street maps show where rum and brandy were rolled by casket avoiding the Excise men. Why not take the cycle path from Deal to Kingsdown, a pretty Kent village with views across to France? Here you can rest and recuperate in one of the three pubs all serving excellent food. If golf is your game then there are 12 courses within a 30 minute journey, but Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St. Georges and Kingsdown are within an easy distance. For sheer imposing magnificence nearby Dover Castle is an absolute must visit on any visitor's list. Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded our shores from invasion for 20 centuries. Deal won the Daily Telegraph's ‘High Street of the Year’ award in January, and was voted as the number 1 coastal town in Britain by them in November, 2014. Also named as one of the ‘top 30 weekend retreats’ in March 2014 by The Times, Deal is the perfect location for families and friends looking to pursue outdoor activities or laze on the beach enjoying the sea air. Stroll along the cobbled streets, sit and relax outside a bistro or tea room with a coffee, or just gaze out to sea; Deal has something for everyone!
