The house is spacious, and even though there were 8 of us, and a baby) We all felt

  • "Great home for a large family!"

Perfect location if you want some peace and quiet but close enough to Keswick for dinner/shopping etc. Walks on your doorstep and everything you could need and more in the home. Shame we had to strip the beds and take bins to end of lane - takes the 'holiday' feel from the trip but not a big issue.

  • "Property was lovely and spacious."

There were 4 adults and 2 children staying so plenty of space. The house was spotless on arrival and well maintained. Nothing really to complain about. Odd issues such as lack of a cutlery drawer in the large kitchen was a bit strange and the shower in the bathroom downstairs was super hot, altering the temperature control made no difference. However, nothing that would take away giving it top marks.

Dear guest Thank you for your feedback we very much appreciate your time in providing it. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay . The cutlery draw in the large kitchen is in the top draw under the hob. We will make a larger sticker so it might be easier to locate The hot water will also be checked and adjusted. We hope to see you again in the near future and thanks again for choosing to stay at Low Melbecks house. Tony & Mary Anne Property Owner

  • "The accommodation was lovely, very well appointed with quality fixtures and fittings."

Beautiful location, very peaceful. Few minor maintenance niggles, potentially snagging as appeared new, but nothing that impacted the holiday. However, accessibility through the cottage was not ideal and this was not clear when booking. We were away with elderly parents and selected the cottage for the ground floor bedroom, however there were stairs to each lounge/kitchen area and to access the property, some without handrails and this did cause issues and concern. The WCs are low, again problematic for them and the bath, whilst lovely, was unmanageable for them to get in and out of. I think there was access into the cottage at grade, but parking was restricted close to this door, possibly due to ongoing building works. The first drive way gate requires someone to open and close it, within a field which is rural, uneven and at the time muddy terrain, again not ideal if you’re unsteady on your feet. Can I suggest it is worth noting more clearly that the property is not ideal if accessibility is a requirement on the description, but if not a requirement then I would highly recommend a stay here.

We were very pleased to see that feedback from last year had been listened to and that the bathroom had been upgraded. The cottage is lovely, cosy and well appointed. Our son absolutely loves the pool table! We'll be back next year!

Lovely holiday. Low Melbecks is the perfect place for a quiet holiday. The cottage was fully equipped with everything you need. Cosy and comfortable. Fun driving through the field past the sheep.

  • "Because the cottage is remote - a welcome pack or at least a bottle of milk would have been nice."

The garden furniture could do with a make over. There was a used tissue wedged into the gap in the table! Towel rail - the owners know about this!!! On the positive side the cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The reason we wouldn't return is because the location is too remote for us.

  • "Beautiful cottage set in idyllic surroundings with a stream running through the garden."

Very quiet and peaceful with a magnificent view of Skiddaw from the upstairs window. There are lots of walks to be done from the cottage and Keswick is only 8 miles away. Our favorite pub is the Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite, which is a lovely unspoiled little village not far from the cottage - in fact you can walk there across the fields. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Bedding and towels are changed once a week. Just a couple of things though. There are lots of flies around, probably due to the fields of sheep nearby and also the towel rail fell off the wall in the bathroom, as it had not been fitted correctly. We saw from what had been written in the visitors book that it had been like that for about a year or more. We did mention this to Sykes, as we had nowhere to hang our towels. They removed the towel rail, but as of leaving, no replacement was provided. All in all we would love to return to this lovely part of the world and would definitely stay at Low Melbecks Cottage again.

  • "We had a fabulous stay at Low Melbecks Cottage."

The pool table in the shared Games Room was an absolute hit with our son! The cottage was comfortable and cosy with the wood burner and the kitchen was really well appointed. We cooked every night and were pleasantly surprised at the range of equipment and utensils provided. We could not access the drying room during our stay which was inconvenient as the weather was very wet! A previous guest must have taken the key. We reported this to Skyes/ the management company. The one room which needs improvement is the bathroom. The sign on the toilet lid is a bit inappropriate for families with younger children (it mentions condoms) and in general it needs modernising.

  • "A really lovely cottage; generous in space and well equipped with kitchen tools, nice linen and a thoughtful and interesting choice of games/books/dvds."

The (shared) games room and drying room are nice ‘extras’ too. WiFi doesn’t work (we were informed beforehand) and 4g signal is slow but this just added to the ‘get away from everything’ feel that the location suggests. If you want to enjoy the Lakes without the hordes then this is a great choice- off the beaten track in a less busy area, but with the convenience of Keswick down the road. Skiddaw is a good walk from the front door, and the Bassenthwaite a very short drive away- we had several great days with the canoe and SUP, swimming and chilling out (permits can be bought easily online). We’ve bookmarked this place as one for a repeat visit- the house next door can also be linked which is great for a future family meet up.

  • "Lovely cottage in quiet location adjacent to two other rental properties."

Beautiful secluded grounds. Location is 300m from road via double gated track through sheep field. House had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Shared use of a games room with pool table was a bonus. No wifi, but we had 4G in various parts of house and garden, so no problem for us.

  • "Booking via telephone was great, very helpful young man."

Cottage was lovely and very well equipped. Great kitchen. The beds were fine, if a little hard and uncomfortable. Receiving an email the week before to say wifi had just become unavailable, seems a bit cynical as pretty much every guest book entry listed wifi as not working. An entry in November 2020 said the bathroom towel rail was on the floor in the hall. It was still there, not repaired, at the end of May 2021. The shower leaked and we found it dripped down into the lounge at the bottom of the stairs. Didn't see this until the Thursday before we left. Given all that, we would still return to the cottage as we loved it, the situation and the pool / games room. Oh and we also found some water on the floor in the pool room after it had been raining, maybe roof leaking? Smells a bit damp. All in all a great stay, just a few maintenance issues.

  • "On discovering the dvd player was not working l phoned the office on 3 occasions , did not receive any promised return calls and l finished up purchasing a new one locally ."

Also the towel rail in the bath room was adrift on one side , upon investigation l realised the inadequate mounting was not securely fitted rendering the towel rail unusable
