  • "We have visited Braithwaite numerous times but had not stayed in Burnside Cottage before."

It is in a lovely location very close to the centre of the village. It is a beautiful looking cottage with a quirky and interesting layout. We especially liked the Caracole staircase and utility room. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. The utility room is a real boon for coming and going. The downstairs shower is excellent though we did have to replace a broken bulb and clean the lampshade as it was very gloomy in there when we arrived. The master bedroom is roomy and light, and the double bed is comfortable though given the space available, a larger bed would have been nicer. We didn't use the lounge much but there were plenty of chairs, tables and lights though one was wobbly. The kitchen worked well with a dual-fuel cooker and dishwasher. A fridge in the kitchen plus a second with the freezer in the utility room was a bonus. We appreciated being able to set the week’s heating schedule as many properties with Hive these days don’t allow you to do this. The cottage garden is beautiful, we loved sitting by Coledale Beck for our lunch and to relax in the afternoons after our long walks in the mornings. The old mill stream running across the garden was a nice surprise. The outdoor table and chairs were really useful as was the summer house when it got a bit chilly. There were a few niggles which if addressed would improve the cottage: 1) No washing up bowl that we could find anywhere - this was quite annoying. 2) No flow straighteners in the kitchen taps - the water runs back along the underside of the taps. 3) A short bath. 4) The OK button on the TV remote barely works making the remote hard to use. 5) A chair in the master bedroom would be useful as the dressing-table mirror is low. 6) Thanks for the ‘welcome pack’ bottle of wine but milk, a few teabags and perhaps a packet of biscuits would be more useful after a long journey. 7) The shortest dishwasher cycle was 2.5 hours but unusually you are required to empty it before leaving. This means putting your final breakfast wash on no later than 7:20am. To wash by hand would be less hygienic for the next guests. None of these niggles would prevent us from booking again in the future.

Thank you very much and we hope you do rebook in the future. Highlighting the few niggles is very useful and will be attended to. Property Owner

There are plenty of walks from the cottage door and the village is very friendly with a useful shop.

  • "Lot of cobwebs, also in the bedrooms between bed and nightstand."

The table in the kitchen is very hard to clean because of the crevices, breadcrumbs sticks in it. Overall it is a very comfortable house.

Thank you. Your comments will be acted upon; now addressed the cobwebs and other cleaning issues and provided ‘oxo’ brush for table. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely stunning cottage!"

Everything you could possibly need provided. Spotless, cosy and a joy to stay in. Located in the centre of Braithwaite, lots of good walks nearby. Would definitely recommend

  • "A beautiful cottage in an amazing setting in a location perfect for exploring the Lakes."

Great as a walking base. A well equipped cottage. Although very close to Keswick, the local pubs are well worth a visit and the village shop great for milk and bread etc. Unfortunately the television did not work, we did report this and help arrived but still no joy. Otherwise a great stay.

Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay at Burnside and hope you return. The TV was revisited by the engineer and actually works perfectly. Someone had amended the ‘source’. He did mention you were happy with the smart TV facility and didn’t wish him to stay any longer. Thanks again. Property Owner

Close to Keswick. We had a lovely week and the family enjoyed the lovely time around the log fire playing Trivial pursuit. Highly recommended.

  • "Burnside Cottage was lovely and felt like home as soon as we arrived."

It was extremely well equipped and beautifully decorated and maintained. The rooms were all a very good size and the garden was also lovely. The cottage is down a quiet lane, just a few metres from the village shop and we were able to do wonderful walks on the fells straight from the front door. We didn't want to leave at the end of the week! One small suggestion would be better instructions for what to do with rubbish and recycling - the instructions on the board in the kitchen didn't seem to be correct. My only complaint is that, from the moment of booking, I was spammed with promotional messages from Sykes Cottages on a daily basis. It's a shame that this spoiled what was otherwise a great holiday experience.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your holiday and the location of Burnside Cottage. We will take into account all your comments. We hope to welcome you again soon. The owner relations team - Lakes Cottage Holidays Property Owner

  • "A fabulous stay at Burnside Cottage, aided by a week of glorious weather."

The cottage was clean and provided with a superb range of facilities for a comfortable stay. The private garden was the highlight (due to the weather) and this is where we spent most of our time when not out enjoying the fells which in our opinion are the best in the LD for variety so the location of Burnside for a blend of activities and restfulness is perfect! Without hesitation we would recommend the cottage for a great all-round stay- a real home from home.

Thank you for your kind comments, and that you found the cottage to be clean. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakes Cottage Holidays Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in the heart of Braithwaite, with parking for 2 cars which is important for this small village."

Everything you need is provided for. 4 adults stayed here comfortably and loved having a porch and a utility, which for hiking is a necessity, also having 2 fridges was great. The only negative is the cleanliness, the surface cleaning is fine, but the shelves, drawers, place mats, corners of rooms, cupboard doors, etc need a thorough clean, this is the only negative from an otherwise very nice house.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the cottage and it had everything you needed. Thank you for your comments on the cleanliness, this has been brought to the attention of the housekeeping team. We do hope you will return again soon. • "Burnside Cottage is the perfect holiday base, full of joys and comforts."

A great deal of thought and consideration has gone into anticipating guests' needs. The building itself is beautiful and full of character. It's also ideally situated within easy reach of some of the loveliest lakes and fells. We had one of the best holidays we've ever experienced, and Burnside Cottage was a big part of that. We'll definitely be coming back.

  • "Lovely spacious property in a great location."

Well equipped and warmer than we expected. Views from the master bedroom of Skiddaw was a nice bonus, as was the proximity to many walks and pubs without driving. Only small criticism is that there was little space for a weeks provisions that we brought with us, as the cupboards were filled with crockery enough for a small army.

Many thanks. Glad you had a good week. Items do get moved around and spread about in the cupboards, limiting food storage space. We removed the freezer from kitchen to provide more space. Now labelled and a plan for more storage in uitility is in process Always respond to feedback thanks! Property Owner
