  • "Luxury cottage."

Good off road parking. 30 minutes walk along the disused railway track. Ideal to get to the bus station. On a bus route from Ambleside. Close to the busy road but not intrusive. Limited area for the dog but adequate and secure.

  • "Good points: good size property plenty of space, close to Keswick town ( ideal for walking into keswick) very comfy bed, fabulous views from property, great separate freezer/fridge."

Poor points: main issue was many hairs on the bed sheet,( don’t know if they were human or pet) had to use a duvet cover over the top as there was no spare sheet in the cupboard ( we arrived at 9.30 pm) and as it was bank holiday weekend would be difficult contacting company to get another one brought out, batteries dead in tv remote so couldn’t use it, (had to buy new ones Saturday morning) road very busy and was noisy at certain times of day, all cleaning products in bathroom empty! None at all in en-suite. Kitchen tap is either full on or nothing, the heating timing needs adjusting to come on before 8.30 in the morning as most people are already up way before then and it was a bit chilly first thing. the outside really needed a good sweep up lots of leaves just looked unkept probably because it’s for sale it feels like no one seems to be bothered about the small things? Despite the minor poor points had a lovely week although wouldn’t book this property again as not enough outside space/ garden.

  • "The furniture was old fashioned."

There was a lot of months that kept flying around. The remote for the television wouldn't always work. The property was really clean and the bedding was spotless. We enjoyed our stay.

  • "Very nice cottage; easy to find."

Very clean, had everything I needed. Lovely shower and bathrooms, beds were so comfortable. Views towards Newlands valley were fantastic. Just a shame the rain hardly stopped, and the winds were very strong. Easy access to Keswick centre via the Threlkeld to Keswick railway path.

  • "Only one bin liner provided."

No dish cloth for wiping down work surfaces and no washing up brush. We had to purchase these and bin liners ourselves. The listing said fuel provided and whilst I accept this might not include wood for wood burner for whole stay there wasn’t even one nights wood for arrival night and no firefighters. No info on where to buy wood or where to eat out. Sofa and chairs shabby and need a clean. By the way house was put on market with local estate agent Monday of our stay. No inconvenience to us but worth noting as may explain slight sense on our part that a refresh of this accommodation is needed and ‘consumables’ had been cut back. On a positive note good location good views. Beds were very comfortable. We’ve stayed with you before and may do so again, just not at this accommodation. Happy to discuss this feedback.

  • "Fantastic 2 bedroom "upside-down " house, making the most of the views from the upstairs living area."

Handy en-suite toilet in the main bedroom as well as a large main bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Plenty of plates, cups, cutlery and cooking pots- dishwasher and full size freezer was a bonus.

  • "The Cottage was clean & tidy and comfortable and suited our needs very well with its position a mile walk along the old railway track to Keswick."

Plenty of walks without moving the car & a bus stop 5 mins walk away. Our only feedback for possible improvements are that the garden is gated but not secure for small dogs and the kitchen has little if any empty cupboard space for supplies.

  • "Directions for finding the property were not as helpful or accurate as they could have been, although the exact location is difficult to describe."

First and last outings for a dog were awkward when mine declined to perform in the slate covered courtyard. We really enjoyed The Cottage and the remarkable views from the kitchen window.

  • "A nice cottage, but much closer to the road than I thought so could be noisy at times."

Oven and shower need a good clean. The rest of the cottage was reasonably clean, beds comfortable. The view from the upstairs windows was great

  • "Pretty cottage with good views."

Unfortunately the ensuite bathroom smelt very fusty and was visibly damp. (This has been commented on before by someone else in 2022). The upstairs smelt very 'doggy' so regularly had windows open to try and get rid of it. The bedding on one of the beds in the twin bedroom had a lot of long dark hairs on it, none of which belonged to us!! The oven needs a good clean.

We are glad you enjoyed the views. We are sorry about the issue you have raised and have taken this up with our cleaners. The ensuite is not damp but does suffer from condensation due to its level. This should be cleaned when necessary by the cleaners. We have also raised the 'doggy' smell and hairs and oven. The Cottage is cleaned every week by a professional cleaner. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The Cottage remains pet friendly due to its location within the National Park. • "The idea of 1st floor living is great, because you enjoy amazing views, but it has caused serious main bedroom sleeping problems."

The boiler, freezer and fridge are all right above the main bedroom and are really noisy. When you had the hot tap running whilst the boiler was also heating radiators, it sounded as loud as a washing machine on fast spin - unbearable noise! Also, the broadband router and other huge Cisco box are in/on a bedside chest and also make a loud humming noise. I had to wear ear plugs every night. It’s a shame, because it’s a nice cottage, but we won’t be returning due to these issues.

Thank you for your feedback. We have noted your comments. Must admit we have owned this Cottage for some 13 years now and the points you mention have never been raised. Indeed, whenever we as the owners stay we have never encountered the issues you have mentioned. Property Owner

It’s in a great location for lots of beautiful walks and only a short walk into Keswick. The owners and their maintenance guy couldn’t of been more helpful with a little problem we had. Thank you for a really lovely stay, our little girl and our spaniel were sad to leave. We’ll be back for sure! x

  • "Cottage itself is lovely."

Well equip and great location. Only issue we had was the awful smell in the twin bedroom. We used copious amounts of air spray to make it bearable.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have had carpets cleaned and took all steps to rectify.Various contractors have been called out and it appears to stem from recently installed new beds ( adhesive used ) and has been referred back to the supplier Property Owner

  • "This cottage should not have been marked in the state it was."

When we arrived we were met by a nauseating smell coming from the second bedroom. this smell eventually permeated throughout the cottage. The second bedroom was unusable and we were made aware that the owners had been aware of this for three weeks prior to our visit. Had we been informed of this we would have cancelled

  • "We really enjoyed our week at The Cottage!"

We have never had such incredible views of the fells from a holiday house. The "upside down" aspect works really well and the cleanliness and general standard of the house is very good. Kitchen items, bedding etc seemed new and fresh and we settled in very quickly. The cake, cookies and Plum Bread from Brysons was a lovely touch.

  • "We found The Cottage to be a good location, with a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds."

We felt this property is crying out for some tlc, a deep clean and a bit of attention. The toilet in the double bedroom is mouldy and damp, the toilet flushes 1 time in every 10 tries. Fixtures and fittings could be updated, or at least cleaned properly, the dust on top of the picture frames is thick, cobwebs in most corners. The foliage around the doorway could do with with trim. It's a shame it's been left like this as otherwise it would be a fantastic little cottage with a lot of character.

Thank you for bringing to out attention. The Cottage is professionally cleaned every week and gardens maintained by our managing Agent - we have drawn your issues to their attention. The WC has now been replaced. The fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the age and style of the property Property Owner

The wifi was much appreciated. Perhaps a note somewhere on how best to contact Heart of the Lakes/Sykes cottages in the event of an issue such as the smart TV or its aerial booster malfunctioning, given that the mobile phone connectivity is weak due to shadowing by the surrounding hills.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The Smart TV has been replaced following your comments. Glad you enjoyed the views. Property Owner
