  • "We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay in Skiddaw."

The property was immaculate and really cosy on the autumn nights. We loved the little patio area with beautiful views. It was so handy for Cockermouth and nor too far from Keswick. The grounds of the property were heaven for our dog! Would highly recommend!

  • "Our cottage exceeded expectations."

The location is exceptional. It is one of 3 or 4 cottages in a secluded area where the owner also has a home. The bedrooms are very spacious, the upside down living works wonderfully well with beautiful views of the surrounding land and mountains. This is definitely somewhere to go if you are seeking peace and tranquillity on a holiday. The commitment to green living is clear and welcome. Would certainly consider visiting again.

  • "The property genuinely exceeded expectations!"

Managing to be better in real life than in the photos. Really enjoyed our stay very much, and are definitely looking to return for a longer stay. Marna was fantastic to deal with, and the area was lovely. Thank you for a fantastic stay!

  • "Lovely bright, airy cottage for a home from home stay."

Great location for exploring the Lake District. The kitchen has everything you need, beds and pillows comfy, great pressure in the showers and nice big towels. Drying cupboard is a great bonus so you don't have to think about your boots and coats being damp for the next day! Outside table and chairs and umbrella if you get the weather for alfresco dining (luckily, we did) Sofas comfy but did tend to slip off when relaxing!! The gardens are lovely for a stroll and very picturesque, a great grass area for playing games if you have the energy after exploring the area! If we were to be very picky we would say the addition of a couple of board games would be a bonus. We are hoping to return to the area again and would have no hesitation on staying here again, thank you.

  • "Skiddaw is a brilliant place to stay in a superb and picturesque location."

It is so spacious and the arched window and views are really special and have really added to our stay. The upside down living space works very well, and it is such a good place for dogs to stay too. We all enjoyed exploring the extensive, varied and beautifully natural surroundings. It has been lovely to come “home” to such cosy, homely, beautifully elevated accommodation after experiencing the delights of the nearby Lake District . Thank you for our very special stay at Skiddaw.

  • "Beautiful cottage in a great location with restaurants and pubs in easy reach after a hard days walking."

The cottage is very well equipped with all the tools necessary for comfort and cooking if you need to. There is a drying cabinet for wet clothes and boots which came in very handy after we experienced some very wet days and marshy ground on the days out walking. The dogs had all the comfort of home, we took their own bed and lots of throws for the furniture and they settled in very well. Beware that there are sheep nearby in the field which is fenced off and the 10 acre grounds are pretty and wild with lots of nettles that caused some feet irritation so take piriton for the dog/s for the walk in the gardens. All in all a lovely experience, we were left to do our own thing by the host and we had a lovely time. We would not hesitate to return and recommend the location highly for anyone seeking a holiday in a stunning location.

  • "Lovely stay, warm and cosy with glorious views."

Enjoyed the garden too. Would love to come back, Crummock Water simply heaven. Everything worked fine in apartment. Thank you. If we were to give one minor suggestion, sofas were in excellent condition but we both tended to slide off them. Any chance of offering a throw to put on each?

A very relaxing space for us and our dogs. The kitchen was very well equipped (though one bigger pan would be nice). We enjoyed it and hope to come again.

  • "Skiddaw, as part of a 4 unit holiday accommodation is one of the best of the many cottages we have stayed in across the UK."

Spotlessly clean, very spacious, comfortable, quality fittings and fully equipped, this cottage takes fabulous advantage of lovely views with it's "upside down" accommodation. The eco friendly credentials are are impressive and the massive grounds for Jen, our dog, to wander, were icing on the cake. Add to this a quiet but great location for the north and western Lakes, we can unreservedly recommend Southwaite Green holiday accommodation. The only improvement would be if there was an information folder, particularly for recycling/waste, explanation of the functioning of the heating and suggestions for walks, activities etc. We enjoyed an excellent week's holiday in Skiddaw, thank you very much.

  • "Comfortable cottage plenty off space and great views."

Perfect for access to shops and restaurants in Cockermouth. The patio area would have preferred it to be fenced in for dog safety and maps of local walks for dogs and good restaurants pubs etc would have been helpful, however everyone was helpful and managed to find. Would definitely go back again.

Everything about it was great for three adults and three dogs . It was spotlessly clean with beautiful en-suite bathrooms in both downstairs bedrooms . A fully equipped kitchen and dining area meant we could cook and eat in the cottage easily . The extensive , private grounds made dog walking a pleasure and meant absolutely no hassle ... and the dogs loved being safely off lead . The area is absolutely stunning, beautiful walks , a short ride into Keswick and dog friendly pubs everywhere. This is definitely a cottage we will be revisiting.

The property

A superb modern property, with upside-down accommodation to make the most of the fabulous views and impeccable green credentials, Skiddaw is situated on Paddle Beck in the heart of the exclusive and award-winning Southwaite Green development just 15 minutes drive from Keswick in the north Lake District. Finished to an extremely high standard, this award-winning development offers peace and tranquility with every modern convenience and a low carbon footprint.

Skiddaw is the ideal base for exploring the lesser known West Lakes throughout the changing seasons. Skiddaw has been cleverly built with the bedrooms on the ground floor so that the fully open plan living area on the first floor really takes advantage of some breathtaking views across the open countryside.

There are impressive beams and a private terrace with furniture, accessed via patio doors, where you can enjoy the spellbinding views towards the slopes of magnificent Skiddaw, after which the cottage is named.

The kitchen is fully equipped with A rated appliances in keeping with the eco-friendly ethos.

On the ground floor there are two bedrooms - a double and a zip link twin that can also be a double if required - both with en-suite shower rooms with a hand basin and WC.

There's underfloor heating generated by a ground and air source heat pump, and the owners have maximised the position of the windows and used solar panels to make the 2 cottages at Southwaite Green as off grid as possible. You'll want to spend as much time as possible outside here as there are 10 acres to explore, rich with trees and wildlife.

The pond and arboretum play host to rare red squirrels, while a heron often visits the beck and there's a resident barn owl.

Skiddaw has off-road parking for 1 car, though more is available across the stream.

Though this award-winning development is the ideal place to recharge your batteries in peace and tranquility, bustling Keswick with its shops, bars and restaurants is just 15 minutes away.

Skiddaw is ideally placed to explore the lesser known West Lakes like Buttermere, Crunnock Water and Ennerdale, winner of Britain's Best View.

A hike to the summit of Skiddaw will reward you with some absolutely breathtaking vistas and there are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities virtually outside the front door. The Lake District is Britain's favourite country park, and no wonder.

From the majesty of peaks like Skiddaw to the shimmering waters of Ullswater and Windermere, there's so much to do and enjoy from family attractions and outdoor life, to award-winning fine dining destinations and of course a lakeside cruise on one of the famous steamers. With its high standards of accommodation and superb location, Skiddaw is perfect for a family or two couples and their well behaved dogs to explore all the delights that the Lake District has to offer, whatever the time of year. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 972321, 972322, and 972323, together sleeping up to 18 guests.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
