  • "The drive up to the property was difficult for us driving in a mini, big pot holes and ramp ."

There was scaffold around the property which affected the look , but didn’t particularly affect our stay. However we were very rudely awoken one morning with loud music and workmen walking across our breakfast terrace taking the scaffolding down. This was very disturbing and I felt considering the high cost and ecxpectations of the holiday I should have been informed at the point of booking, or offered alternative accommodation, so that I could have made an informed choice about booking this property. For these reasons I would not book Sykes’s cottages again and would not recommend to friends and family.

We are sorry that the scaffolding and the removal of it affected your holiday. You would not have been informed about it prior to arrival as it should have been removed before then. It's installation was essential for the external decoration of the top storey. We all take maintenance of the building very seriously and this is the only way to access the higher woodwork every four years. Apologies for the workmen's behaviour but unfortunately that is beyond our control. The owners Property Owner

  • "Cottage was superb the only complaint I have is with customer service as I notified you the next day after booking this that we couldn’t attend until the Sunday as we had a wedding on Saturday but you refused to refund us for the one night even though I did contact you straight away & you said you had already paid the owner which I do not believe?"

Because of this I will not be using your company again !

We are pleased that Tethera came up to expectations and that you enjoyed your stay. Regarding the delayed arrival all our bookings are for full weeks only and perhaps the agent could have made this clearer when you contacted them. Apologies for your disappointment but hope you still had an enjoyable holiday. Chris and Sheila. Owners Property Owner

We have to apologise for the drive which is beyond our control and currently affected by contractors vehicles. We hope to be able to improve this when the roof work is completed. It's set in an idea location, surrounded by beautiful countryside and views of Catbells, but set close enough to Keswick for a spot of retail therapy. The owners care and consideration is truly welcomed, and we look forward to our next visit.

  • "A very nice and well equipped apartment."

I scored it 3 out of 4 for the accuracy of the listing only because it did not make clear the unsurfaced drive. In all other respects I would give top marks for this apartment.

We are so disappointed that you were not informed about the drive. We have specifically requested that the agents make quests aware. We can only apologise that this was not made clear to you. However work is in progress to improve the drive and improve access. We are pleased that you enjoyed Tethera. • "A comfortable and well equipped ground floor apartment sitting to the LHS of the Grange, so its rather shaded and slightly limits enjoyment of the scenery from the windows."

The drive is clearly a current issue, the other advice we would offer is this is the first cottage that we've stayed where there wasn't a few teabags/milk for a refreshing brew after a few hours drive, so do go prepared ! Inevitably the weather dictates the agenda but we had 2 or 3 super days and would not hesitate in returning to Tethera.

Thank you for your feedback comments about Tethera . As Tethera sometimes has gaps between bookings we have concerns that consumables could become stale or past their best so we hope that guests will find the wine to be an acceptable alternative. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Chris and Sheila Property Owner

  • "A beautiful apartment."

Well equipped, comfortable and very clean. A great position above Keswick with good views of the surrounding fells. Having driven to a few self catering cottages down farm tracks with pot holes before, we were not too worried about the driveway. However, it was far worse than we anticipated with long, deep ruts on one side. It would not be a problem for a 4x4 or a vehicle that has good clearance from the ground. But, for drivers of cars whose chassis sits low to the ground, it is a real challenge to avoid damage to the underside of the car. We did manage, but decided not to risk taking the car out all week. We’re keen walkers so this wasn’t too much of a hardship for us, but think other prospective renters should be made aware.

Thank you for your comments about Tethera. We were aware that the drive had deteriorated during the bad weather and work to restore has begun. Knowing this we did request that the agents made you aware of the condition before your arrival and we apologise if this was not made clear. We are pleased that you were able to enjoy walking and hope you will revisit when access is easier. Chris and Sheila Property Owner

  • "Superb property."

30 minutes (uphill !) walk from Booths Supermarket... Follow directions meticulously, the last two right turns are tricky, particularly in the dark. If possible, set sat-nav to the actual building (a hollow square or L at the end of a J-shaped drive).

We are pleased that you appreciated the quality of Tethera. It is very much our second home and we try to make it as comfortable as possible. Thank you for your Sat Nav input which will supplement the directions given. We hope the position and view on arrival help compensate for any difficulties encountered. • "We had a lovely stay in Tethera - close enough to Keswick to walk via the Keswick2Threkeld rail path but away from the crowds in the height of summer."

Lovely views from the patio and particularly from the main grounds. The accommodation is very nice with good quality furniture and kitchen/bathroom fittings. It feels like a second home rather than a holiday cottage business and so there's also useful things you'd have at home but not necessarily expect in a rental. Thank you so much for the Nespresso machine - I nearly brought our own so was delighted to see it! Slight negatives is the dehumidifier, the noise of which rather got on our nerves and ideally the trees would be cut back to let in more light. All in all though really enjoyed it, thank you.

Thank you for your positive feedback and we are pleased that you spotted this is very much a second home for us. Unfortunately the trees are on the neighbouring estate and not under our control but we are aware and working on it. Pleased that you appreciated the Nespresso machine. Property Owner

  • "The apartment is absolutely gorgeous inside and outside."

However, there are a few things to consider. 1) it’s not as close to facilities as advertised. It’s actually quite far away. It’s a good 20 min walk to a pub (low rated pub) and a shop at Shell, and on the way back this walk could be a good 30min since it’s up a steep hill. 2) to get to the property you have to a take a proper steep trail road which is quite dangerous and could result in tire puncture. 3) The appt is quite dark. 4) that was our first stay in the uk in rented accommodation where no tea / coffee was provided.

We are sorry that this guest was disappointed however we have checked the description on the website and the distance of the property from local amenities is exactly as stated. That the property stands on a hillside is also made clear. Property Owner

We had brought our ownwalk books but the walks from Keswick and Ambleside won out and we did completely new to us walks. Weather has been fairly good, not too hot for walking and mainly dry. We have had a lovely week and we will be back!

  • "Lovely apartment, perfect on the ground floor for my elderly father."

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable - it all felt very new - and everything you could possibly need was there! Fab views over Cat Bells - can't think of anything negative apart from the driveway possibly which was 'interesting'! It was definitely worth the steep climb and bumps to reach the lovely car park with allocated spaces and amazing views - easy for unloading and parking and you did soon get used to tackling the access way. Thanks again.

We had a great week and are quite likely to return. The walk to town took about 20 minutes once we found the rail path short cut. The walk home was a little more challenging because it is mostly up hill. Directions were spot on, read them and turn your sat nav off when you reach the Keswick sign. Very comfortable property. Great base to explore the beauty of the Lakes. Enjoyed it very much
