"Lovely and quiet, so well suited to our needs, with books, DVDs , toys, an outside space and ample parking."
-
"The only thing i would say is, we asked for a twin room and a pull out bed through Sykes and was told they would pass on the message."
But when we got there it was not done. The Gentleman we saw was amazing! he said not to worry i will sort it out for you. He made the 2beds up for us. We are very grateful for that. That could have made an issue with our elderly family members. we really enjoyed our stay on the farm!! we would definitely go back.

"We had a wonderful stay."
The cottage was comfortable, very well equipped and there wa pallet of room for us (5 adults and 3 young children). We made good use of the log burners as we were unlucky with the weather, but the additional wood basket we bought was very generously sized. The peacocks in the garden were a bonus too!

"We had an amazing weekend stay here celebrating."
Beautiful cottage & perfect for us ( 8 adults & 2 children) a fantastic time had by all & will definitely be back.
-
"A lovely cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings."
We were a group of 7 adults and 2 children and there was more than enough space for us all. Comfortable large lounge meant we could all sit together in front of the fire in the evenings. Plenty of kitchen equipment, crockery and cutlery. Beds very comfy. I never met the owners but others in the group who did said they were very welcoming and friendly. Only suggestion for improvement would be to include some basic supplies eg, tea, coffee, milk, salt, pepper, oil etc.

"Amanda and Mark were really helpful, friendly and laid back, great site especially in season."
Lovely cottage plenty of space. The Troutbeck inn which is round the corner serve lovey food and staff a great there too. Thanks for a great weekend

"Loved the two bedroom separate accommodation so that the golden oldies could be separate from the youngsters and in peace!"
. Decor and furnishings so tasteful A total joy!

"Toaster in dining room doesn't work Highchair was dirty on arrival Travel cot has small tears around the base of each foot - mattress was folded in half and poor quality - we did bring our own which we needed to use."
Headboards in one bedroom were both broken Tv in one bedroom didn't work - we have visited previously and think it was not working then - it's an aerial issue TV remote in lounge has no battery cover and tbh would benefit from a tv which allows use of Netflix - all the tv's are rated tbh Peacock cushions in snug are dirty and stained One of the sofas has a broken foot Piece of kitchen roll blocking gap between kitchen and garage Disappointed as we felt nothing has been done since our last visit and we wouldn't return which is a shame as it's in a lovely location

"Spot on for a family break"

"We really enjoyed our two nights at Gill house farm and found Amanda very accommodating."
The house is a delightful blend of two old farmhouses knocked into one and tastefully modernised whilst retaining some lovely traditional features. As each of our groups came in there were many exclamations of delight as they explored! It was very comfortable for 10 of us for a family get together and there were plenty of books and games, TV’s and fairly good wi fi. On the downside the kitchen is a bit small for that number of people but we coped ok. There is plenty of room for 4 cars to park. We would certainly go back.

"Fabulous stay at Gill Head Farm House, enhanced by amazing luck with the weather!"
6 adults ,1teen and a dog. Plenty of room , lovely spacious comfortable bedrooms. Had everything we could need and more. Best place we have stayed in the Lakes. The whole farm site is lovely and well kept, and great base for exploring the Lakes. We have already booked for next year!

"Excellent property."
Very clean, very comfortable. Every facility one could want. Only minuscule additions might be a couple more rubber mats for the showers and a pair of scissors. Owners very helpful, supportive and welcoming. Hope to go back.

"Nice roomy house in a stunning location, the holiday park in which it is situated is beautifully maintained, roads, verges, gardens all first class, very friendly people too."
The house is clean and well equipped. There are a few issues, firstly outside the owners control I know but connectivity is very poor, internet signal is weak and mobile phone non-existent. I spent a lot of time in MacDonalds at Penrith using their WiFi as I do need to be in contact with my business when away. Secondly the kitchen is very small and badly laid out two people in there and you are working across each other, three is impossible. Last of all, normally when taking a better end holiday let like this there is a welcome pack, at least milk in the fridge, but there was none. However we had a super time in a beautiful place and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

"As other reviews mention, kitchen a bit small but, on the plus side, where else are you going to get 4 double bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms at anywhere near this price, plus owners on site [ and very nice ]."
We were 7 adults and one toddler and would happily recommend.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gill Head Farm."
The farmhouse was quirky but very comfortable. The small galley kitchen might not suit everyone as there is only one small oven. The extra fridge and freezer in the garage was most welcome for our party of 7 adults/ 2 toddlers who loved the cows and sheep and the children’s park. Will definitely return in the future. Great location too

"The cottage is in a beautiful location and perfect for the local peaks of Blencathra and Skiddaw."
The cottage bedrooms are large and comfortable, each with its own en suite. Hot water is plentiful. TVs in each room but terrestrial channels only. The hosts were welcoming and very helpful and the on site camp shop was very useful (although not always open first thing for breakfast supplies!). The kids enjoyed meeting the baby lambs and calves on the farm. WiFi is sketchy so don’t expect to be streaming movies but there is a good DVD collection. Kitchen is small but we’ll equipped and lots of spaces for sitting and relaxing. Garden not really enclosed for any determined dog! The only thing lacking for us were music players - radios, Bluetooth speakers in a few of the rooms would have been great. We would go back, a lovely location and a super house for 9 of us to stay very comfortably.

"The property was spacious, particularly the bedrooms."
There were four in my party, so we had a bedroom each. Storage for clothes was adequate, but if two people had been staying in my room (with possibly a child), I think it would have been a case of living out of a suitcase to some extent. The bedrooms were all en-suite, one with a bath only, the other three with a shower over a bath. The living areas and dining room were very good, being comfortable and roomy. TV's were everywhere, although none were used. The oil fired heating struggled to reach a comfortable room temperature in January, albeit that we chose not to use the wood burners to save time clearing the ashes each morning. This improved slightly after I realized my non-thermostatic bedroom radiator was not switched on! There was a slight smell of oil in some parts of the cottage, but not overpowering. The heating seemed to come on around 07:00, so was not on when we got up in the mornings. The kitchen was adequate for four persons but I feel would have been a challenge for eight adults and a couple of kids. The fridge was small, the freezer even smaller. Food storage was limited. Again, adequate for four people who did cook in the evenings. We were advised that another fridge was available in a garage, but this would mean going outside to access it. The cooker was a standard 600mm freestanding electric type. The dishwasher was a slimline model and for full occupancy would have been insufficient. There were bulbs which did not appear to be working and others that only came on dimly. Not a great problem and would probably have been sorted if we had mentioned it, but I feel this should not be necessary on a £1000+ a week property (January prices). There was Wi-Fi available, but noticeably slowed down by multiple users. There was no mobile phone reception on my network. Everyone we met on the farm was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Parking was more than adequate and adjacent to the cottage. The campsite was not open during our stay. So, to sum up, a comfortable and mostly spacious cottage in which we had a pleasant stay for a week. Facilities generally good. Some minor issues with the lights and the heating. However, I think I would have been disappointed with the kitchen facilities if my party was double the size. Would I stay again? Yes, assuming there were only four of us.

"Gill Head Farm was the perfect place for an Autumn getaway with friends."
They were very accommodating, friendly and went above and beyond. The house is fantastic and we will definitely be wanting to come again next year.

"We really enjoyed our stay here, really cosy,."
Comfortable cottage. We had a fabulous holiday, despite a very wet week!
-
"Had a 1st class experience."
Couldn’t fault anything

"Great location and setting, just what we wanted"
-
"Absolutely fabulous cottage, so cosy and very spacious."
The photos don’t do it justice. We stayed with friends to celebrate a joint milestone birthday and we couldn’t have asked for a better place. The lot fire was the icing on the cake. We would highly recommend this place

"All members of our family enjoyed their stay in the cottage."
After a hard walk in the fells it was a cosy comfortable home to return to.
-
"The cottage was very spacious for our group of ten."
We all loved it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to large families looking for a peaceful stay in gorgeous surroundings. The owners couldn't be more helpful.

"Amanda and the team at Gill Head farm were very helpful."
I thought the accommodation would be nice however it exceeded our expectations! It was comfy, homely and full of character with big bedrooms and lovely sitting rooms with real fires. The location is also great being close to the A66 and a short drive to both Ullswater and Keswick. The only comments to the contrary are that the WiFi is extremely patchy, the kitchen is small and we were unable to order any takeaways to the site (Amanda noted that usually this isn’t a problem). Would definitely recommend and would stay again!
-
"A very wet first day the cottage was warm and cosy and log burner made it perfect"
-
"What a lovely cottage in a lovely setting."
We had a great weekend in a spacious and cosey cottage. It was a great place for our family get together, welcoming and very comfortable.

"Don't laugh when I tell you it was the wrong Troutbeck!"
! My atlas showed only one Troutbeck in its back index, so I naturally assumed the one near Ambleside was it, in the area near to the 2 attractions my daughters or grandchildren particularly wanted to visit - Beatrix Potter attractions and Grisedale Sculpture trails. In retrospect I'm so glad it WAS the hamlet of Troutbeck, far from the Madding Crowd , as it were, which I only realised a few days before the holiday began, when I read the travel instructions! My fault of course, but there are some of us still using road atlases to locate a suitable holiday spot , not au fait with the gadgets most can use these days!My husband normally saw to fixing up holidays but sadly he died late last year. So, I want you to know we thoroughly enjoyed Gill Head farm with its peacocks, guinea fowl and RED squirrels as very special treats for us all, over and above the usual farm animals. The one problem we found - a window we could not close in the children's bedroom- was seen to immediately by the very pleasant owner as soon as it was reported. Very impressed.
-
"Very comfortable cottage on quiet, well kept and run camp and caravan site."
Great situation.
-
"Absolutely perfect, stunning scenery, serene atmosphere, exceeded all our expectations."
We loved discovering each and every room in this gorgeous cottage which was tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable and had everything you could ever need. The owners thought of everything. We will definitely be returning to this Idyll in the Lake District.
-
"What a wonderful time we had at Gill Head."
I cannot speak highly enough about the property and the helpful owners who are on site. Hopefully we will return one day.
-
"An extremely cosy cottage in an amazing setting which I would certainly highly recommend."
-
"Gill Head Farm is the perfect location for a lazy weekend or excellent for walking if that's what you're there for."
It's only a short distance from Keswick, Penrith and Ulswater so lots of places to visit and the the cottage is beautiful with lots of home comforts. Highly recommended!

"The property at Gill Head Farm is absolutely stunning."
The pictures do not do it justice at all. It really felt like a home away from home and every little detail was thought lf down to a lighter to light the fires. The character of the property is what really made it with the beams and the stunning scenery surrounding it. Such a beautiful place to relax in and not far from Keswick or Penrith and other areas. We can't wait to come again.

"A friendly and helpful greeting awaited us on arrival."
We had two friends travelling with us from the U S A and they were most impressed with the age and size of the cottage. It was most comfortable and had the added bonus of two log fires if we so needed! They had never been to the Lake District before and the location of the property, on a working farm, fascinated them. Also it must have been the very best autumn ever to see the Lakes at their best. Everyone felt at home and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We definitely will book another stay.
