  • "The property is a little bit tired- a leaking radiator in the hall, broken spindle on the stairs, mould in the main bathroom etc."

The bath needed cleaning again before it could be used. It’s in a great location, nice walk to the town centre and derwentwater. The property has no outside space which is a shame but has loads of indoor space. There are a LOT of stairs! They have kindly provided lots of books and games which is a bonus. As a result of the location parking is a challenge, particularly at weekends. There is on street parking next to the house but it is in high demand due to the high numbers of b&bs around.

  • "The only complaint we had was the lack of external bins."

One refuse bin for a house which sleeps 8 people is not sufficient. No recycling bin which would have been very useful. A second point relates to the check-in time of 5pm which is very late compared to other cottage providers. I understood this during COVID times when extra cleaning time was allocated but this shouldn’t be the case anymore. Allowing access from 3pm on day of arrival is pretty standard now.

  • "Ashness house is in an ideal position to walk into Keswick town or down to Derwent water and Hope gardens ."

As the weather was wet all last week this was a real help. The house was very comfortable and excellently equipped - especially the kitchen . The grandchildren appreciated the board games thoughtfully available . Only complaint is lack of a recycycling bin nearer than the bins in the town car park .

  • "Had a lovely couple of days staying in Ashness House."

Location is perfect with a 5 min walk into Keswick / Fitz Park. Comfy beds and the showers were perfect. Would definitely stay here again. For the owner - there is a fault in the radiator in the bedroom with the en suite. When the radiator is turned off the heating still blasts through.

Located right in the centre of Keswick and walkable to shops and restaurants as well as beautiful Derwent Water. There was space for everyone, with two living spaces and good size bedrooms as well as a bright and well-equipped kitchen.

We had a problem with the locks but it was sorted out quickly and efficiently. Would be good to have a recycling bin at the property as we had to carry it to the recycling station. Sadly we had to go home a day early because of the train strike. Otherwise a lovely week.

  • "Well maintained property, well furnished."

Excellent kitchen. There was a problem with the 'Spare set of keys' as the Yale type key did not fit the front door. We were lucky not to be locked out in the rain when we discovered this problem, as we had put the original set back in the keysafe. That apart, it was a lovely holiday in an excellent town house.

  • "Lovely property a short walk from the town centre or to parks and footpaths - about 10 minutes or so to the lakeside avoiding town centre."

Quiet street - usually able to find a parking space nearby. Spotlessly clean. TV in kitchen and living room helped when you have a large group with conflicting needs! High standard of fixtures, fittings and accessories (lovely Emma Bridgewater crockery for example). Ample space for our group of 6. Just to let dog owners know - they have to sleep downstairs in the kitchen (our dog did cope but is used to sleeping with us usually). Also, there is no outside space (eg yard or garden) so you have to take them a short walk so they can 'relieve' themselves, so we had a bit of a rush in a morning to get him to a suitable area as it is all housing and streets, and a few minutes to a grassy space.

  • "We found Ashness House to be in an excellent location."

It is just 5 minutes to the shops at the top of the centre of Keswick. The views from some of the windows are stunning and when we were there there was snow too! The heating is excellent as well as the constant hot water which is great after a long, cold walk out! A small point was that we expected washing up liquid, spare bin liners and a washing up brush and this had been mentioned by previous people in the guest book.We had to buy all these and dishwasher tablets too.Perhaps it was a Covid thing....? The pillows are rather too bulky for a comfortable night’s sleep...at least two of our party found that.We bought some more comfortable ones. Also the lounge is smaller in reality compared to the photo online. You cannot really comfortably fit 8 people in there for some time. The kitchen is well equipped mostly but our chef(who cooked every day) said the cooker was far from easy to manage. The kids’ room up the top of the house was adored and our granddaughters were very happy. The beds are all very comfortable. I tripped over the little step up to the big toilet downstairs. Just watch out! The hallway is rather cold. All in all, we loved our stay and we enjoyed the family room downstairs. It is worth mentioning that it looks like the table can be extended to 8 places but there were only 5 adults and 2 children so we coped as it was. Thanks very much.

It was perfect. There were so many little hidden touches- oven gloves, aprons, DVDs, games, maps, even flasks etc. The location is great-5min walk to keswick centre. The street parking can be a bit tricky but we managed to get spaces outside the house. Loved it.

  • "Perfect location, with easy walk into town, with plenty of street parking."

The ground floor area of the property was cold and draughty, this was not helped by having no draught proof seal around the front entrance door. You could see daylight through the gap and the door rattled when windy, especially at night. This kept us awake initially, thinking someone was trying to open the door.
