Plenty of space for 6 and 2 dogs. Great kitchen, although fridge v small for 6 and it froze lots of the food stored on the bottom shelf. V useful utility and back entrance for muddy kit. V nice to have separate dining room and comfy lounge. 2 double beds were small for taller people. Wifi reliable for work purposes.

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at Brandelhow House."

The house is perfectly situated for easy access to Keswick allowing you to explore this lovely Lakeland town and the area as a whole. Numerous long walks and hikes from your doorstep in order to keep the active members of your group happy. The accommodation was spacious, clean and well presented with no issues whatsoever throughout the week. Excellent communication from Sykes from start to finish.

  • "The house in general was great, all facilities and well presented."

It was unacceptable however to rent a property with a known issue in the dining room. The smell meant we could not use that room and had to balance plates on our knees whilst sat in the kitchen. For the price this is unacceptable. The cleaner placed a plug in to mask the smell but that did not work. Following communication it is clear you are aware of the issue as you attempted to shampoo and clean the curtains. The issue still is present. I would request some financial reimbursement for the lack of a suitable eating area.

Thank you for your feedback, however I would like to dispute your comments. The issue that you raised was not 'known'. We stayed at our property the week before your visit and carried out our regular deep clean including shampooing all carpets and soft furnishings. This is common practise when running a holiday let business. We did not notice any smell in any part of the house during our stay. Our Property Manager and handyman responded to your call and attended promptly but could not smell any odour. Kind regards Andrea and Mark Property Owner

  • "Fabulous cottage done to an exceptionally high standard and very central to Keswick."

However maybe one to avoid if you have a young dog or one that takes a little time to settle in the crate as neighbours not particularly tolerant of dog noise. Our dog is only 7 months sob was crated when we couldn’t keep our eyes on him 100% of the time and did whine/bark for the 1st 5 -10 minutes but was was never left alone in the house. This resulted in notes through the door and complaints to Sykes. This did put us on edge and ultimately impacted on our ability to relax and enjoy ourselves. Cannot fault the actual cottage and I have to say Sykes were very supportive and sympathetic when they actually spoke to us. May just be us having a bad week but might be worth checking with Sykes/the owners how often they receive dog noise complaints before booking.

Thank you for your positive feedback about the cottage and glad you found its location nice and central for your holiday. Re the dog noise, we have only ever received one other complaint in the past about dogs barking from our neighbours and this was when a dog had been left alone in the house. It is clearly mentioned in the terms and conditions of booking that dogs are not to be left unattended and would suggest that its not advisable to bring such a young puppy to an unfamiliar house when its clearly having issues settling. We are very conscious that the cottage is integrated within the local community and try very hard to keep good relationships with our neighbours. Kind regards Andrea and Mark Property Owner

  • "Beautifully maintained terraced house in a quiet street with lots of parking options."

Owners have furnished property to a high standard, especially kitchen and its facilities. Big and roomy spaces and lovely neighbours! Our only negatives would be the fact that the bedrooms didn't have blackout blinds, so those sensitive to light, may want to consider bringing an eyemask. Also, as the double bedrooms are all of good proportions, king sized beds would be a better option, but that's just our own opinion. No downstairs toilet, but owners are already considering fitting one. Would we return? Most definitely!

  • "A lovely place to stay."

Absolutely spotless when we arrived, very comfortable with quality furniture but practical too. Bathrooms are superb and the bedrooms are all excellent. A couple of things to point out for the owner’s benefit really, two doors wouldn’t fully close and as one is the end bedroom that was a bit inconvenient. Door handles just need adjustment. Also, you can see daylight round most of the front door so just needs some insulation tape! Just thinking of your winter fuel bills. Maybe the courtyard could be made a little more private too, if I’m being picky. Parking was fine in the first two days (in late May) but after that it could be a problem parking near the property. Guess that depends on when you stay here. Anyway these are minor points, we really enjoyed our time at the property. It is very smart inside, spacious, only a few minutes walk from the town and has views of some of the hills. Overall, a very pleasant place to stay and we would highly recommend.

Excellent location, lovely house, tastefully furnished, very clean, we really enjoyed our stay (three friends) Two comments: no toilet downstairs, and the beds in 2 bedrooms are too small for couples (queen size), other than that just great

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are currently investigating the installation of a downstairs toilet in the boot room area. Regarding the beds being too small for couples, we have checked the dimensions of both beds and can confirm that they are standard UK Double beds (4' 6" wide). • "The property is very nice and, in an ideal world, would be better with a downstairs toilet."

A lack of cleaning solutions/equipment proved a challenge as we like to keep on top of the properties we stay at. The fence height at the rear of the property is not ideal when you have dogs who are intent on escaping. The biggest issue by far was on the last day. We were scheduled to leave at 10am and packing the car (boot was open) when the cleaners came barging into the house without even knocking on the door at 9.35am. We were not prepared for their arrival and our two dogs, who both have suicide streak, headed straight for the door and the busy road. It was a terrible, heart stopping moment that has caused us real anguish. Please can you make sure your cleaners do not do this again.

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoyed your stay. Apologies that you felt there was a lack of cleaning solutions/equipment, we provide two hoovers (one pet one), mop and bucket, broom, brush and dustpan etc but will pass your feedback to our cleaner so she can review. The fence at the back is being replaced with a new higher picket fence this summer which should help to keep larger dogs safely in the back patio area. We ask guests to vacate the property at the end of their holiday by 10:00am, so its disappointing to hear that our cleaner arrived early and unannounced and this caused you anguish and we will feed this back to her. Apologies again and we hope you will return in the future, kind regards Andrea and Mark Property Owner

  • "Very comfy cottage, great location, spacious and well equipped."

Parking no problem at all even as it was half term. Our back up was the huge, empty pay and display car park directly behind the property which also has car chargers if needed. Only £7 a day if needed. We had a slight issue which Sykes fixed immediately and could not have been more helpful. The rear bedroom of the property clearly has a damp issue, the dehumidifier is not really up to the job, when we turned it on it needed to be emptied every couple of hours, once it turns much colder, or if the property is vacant the problem will be much worse. There are visable damp patches on the walls and wall paper is lifting.

Many thanks for your feedback and we are glad you enjoyed the cottage and it's location and that the minor issue you experienced was resolved quickly. With regard to the damp issue in the rear bedroom, following your feedback we visited the cottage in November and have taken the following actions. 1. Identified water ingress from a redundant chimney which has now been removed. 2. We found the trickle vent had been closed preventing air circulation. This was opened and a notice attached to advise guests. 3. An additional panel heater has been installed to maintain the temperature of this room . You will appreciate that Victorian houses do require air to circulate to keep them free from the build up of condensation, particularly in bedrooms with outside walls. We visit the property regularly and will be monitoring. Thank you again, Andrea and Mark Rose Property Owner

This was a lovely property, everything to a very high standard and clean. Comfy beds and excellent bathrooms. Good dining room and nice big kitchen. Nice cosy living room with a log burner which we hardly used due to the amazing weather this week, what a nice problem to have. The house was perfect for our group who stayed this week. If I had to suggest improvements, and I’m being very picky here, a few more pans and baking/oven trays would be good as cooking for 6 was a little tricky with what was provided. Possibly a bigger fridge as well although I know this is built in so not possible to change. Perhaps a second fridge in the utility? With that said, that’s me being very very picky indeed. We loved our stay and we will absolutely be back in the future. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Brandelhow House. We are sorry that you arrived for the Christmas week to find no decorations. There had been a change in information prior to your stay which unfortunately did not get passed onto yourselves before you came away. This was an internal error and we apologised at the time and agreed to recompensate you for. We are glad to hear that you managed to source some decorations to make the place feel festive and homely. Regarding the running water down the wall in the back bedroom. Sadly, there is a damp issue which we are aware of and trying to resolve. The chimney outside needs some remedial work but due to the poor weather lately we haven’t had chance to get this fixed. We have plans in January to get this resolved pending dry/non icy weather. This sadly gets worse when windows are shut, and heat is locked in. We have added a dehumidifier to help improve this. Regarding the tap, a plumber did attend and managed to reduce the leak however a new tap was needed completely, and this is being carried out next week whilst the owner is at the property. We hope you otherwise had a lovely Christmas week in Keswick. Property Owner
