"A lovely stay at Squirrel Lodge for a family gathering."
Very convenient for the town centre, Fitz park and an ideal base to start walks from. Convenient having allocated parking as well as on street spaces. The property was nice and warm at all times and had everything we needed. Overall we all enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

"This is a small house in which to fit 12 people."
Ok, its in the centre of town which is is good but to offset the size we would expect a high standard of fit out and comfort. The beds are generally uncomfortable, the rooms are tight and the house was cold. The internet tv wouldn't play any of the channels, so on a wet afternoon it wasn't a very congenial place to hang out in.
The house is oversold and doesn't really match up to the photos. Although as a rental its adequate, there is little joy in staying there. We had a good weekend despite the house's underwhelming contribution.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that the property did not meet your expectations. We always strive to provide a comfortable stay for our guests, and I regret that you found aspects of the house underwhelming.
We were surprised to receive this review, as we did not hear from you during your stay, apart from your request to check in early, which we were happy to accommodate at no extra cost. Had you reached out about any issues, such as the TV connectivity or heating, we would have been more than happy to assist in real-time to improve your experience.
Your stay coincided with Storm Eowyn, the most severe storm in Cumbria in the last decade, which we believe disrupted the satellite signal. However, the TV is fully equipped with WiFi-based streaming apps, including BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub, which would have provided access to most Freeview channels. We could have easily guided you through this had we been contacted.
Regarding the size and layout of the house, all photos and a detailed floor plan are available on the listing to ensure guests can review the space before booking. While the property is centrally located and designed to accommodate groups, we always encourage guests to check the listing details to ensure it meets their specific needs.
We always appreciate constructive feedback and will take your comments into account. However, we also encourage all guests to reach out during their stay if anything is not as expected, as we are always happy to help.
Best regards,
Sarah

"House is comfortable and sleeps 12, but the lounge is nowhere near big enough for 12 adults and there are not enough seats."
Kitchen is not big enough to reasonably cook a meal for 12 people.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the house comfortable for your group of 12!
Regarding the living space, the main lounge has seating for 10+ guests, and there’s an additional snug with comfy seating for 3–4 people. Dining chairs can also be moved into the main lounge if needed. While we can’t enlarge the kitchen, we’ve optimized the space to include all the amenities needed for cooking for a large group.
We appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you back in the future!

"Great family holiday home set so close to the centre of Keswick."
The house itself has everything needed for a family holiday. We cooked some lovely meals in the kitchen which had more than enough pans and cutlery to support the family. The furnishings are top quality, and the beds comfortable. Having 2 designated parking places in Keswick meaning both cars were not on the road is a huge bonus.
I was kept up to date via email from the owner, and her attention to detail is to be admired.
We are already looking to book again.
Thank you for your kind words! We’re so glad you had a great time at our family holiday home. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed the location, the house, and the amenities. We’ll be sure to keep up the good work. We hope to see you again soon!

"We had 6 adults, 3 boys, an infant and a dog that had never been away from home before."
The property was perfect for us and also coped with a few visitors for a meal to celebrate a final Wainwright. The two dedicated parking spaces were a great help over the Easter weekend which meant we only had to find one (elusive) parking spot in the street. Despite two fractures in the course of our walking and some less than wonderful weather, we had a great time.
Thank you for staying with us! We're thrilled the property was perfect for your large group and even accommodated visitors. Delighted the parking spaces were helpful, especially during a busy Easter weekend. So sorry to hear about the fractures, but glad you had a great time despite the weather. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

"Stayed here for a week, mixed age group, great base for walking and shopping."
All rooms were clean and comfortable. The large dining table allowed us to eat and chat and then play cards all together. The kitchen was a good size and was well equipped, loved the two fridges and made use of the washing machine and dryer.
Reported issues with the bathroom radiators and they were dealt with by the host. Only concern prior to arrriving was the road parking , but this proved to not be a problem as we all got parked right outside. Looking to book again as its a great base.
Thank you for the fantastic review! We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay and found the space perfect for your group. We appreciate you letting us know about the radiators - glad we could resolve it quickly. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

"We found the property ideal for a family birthday celebration with my twin sister."
Plenty of room for four couples & a small child. It was warm, comfortable beds, & all the rooms looked newly decorated. Kitchen though slightly on the small side was well equipped & great to have the large fridge/ freezer. Only criticism is we found it a bit squashed for seating in the lounge but we all want to return in the not too distant future. Thank you for making our birthday celebrations one to remember. "Beautiful house in an ideal location for Keswick."
Very spacious and ideal for a large family group with 6 bedrooms and lots of bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped and extra utility room perfect. Each bedroom was very cosy and the beds super comfy! Lovely extra from the owner as tea coffee and kitchen provided and bottle of prosecco and chocolates a nice surprise to help us celebrate New Year. Location fantastic as just a short walk into the centre of Keswick which we love and visit often.

"Like a bad dream."
..
I was disappointed with our stay at Squirrel Lodge in December 2023. I appreciate that VRBO/Sykes are only going to try and show the good stuff about their property on their books in their web images, and they really have done that in this instance. So, the good bits; the lounge is OK, with plenty of chairs for the 7 of us that were staying, but I'd worry if all six rooms were fully occupied. Kitchen is OK, but again, very small if the house is fully occupied. The dining room would seat everyone around the large table, but that's where the good stuff dries up.
I can't directly review the bedrooms on the first and second floor, but we were on the third floor, some 45 stairs up, which was tedious to say the least. But if the bedroom had been half decent I guess the exertion of getting up the stairs would have been worth it. It wasn't, it as terrible. As was the other bedroom in the attic. It was like a cross between student accommodation and a hostel. It was the kind of room you have bad dreams about ending up in if your life had gone wrong. I like to stay somewhere that is as nice or better than my house. This was not. The bed was small and terribly uncomfortable. The cheap foam duvet and pillows were as bad as the mattress. Very little storage. Furniture that wouldn't look out of place in a charity shop. Then woodchip walls have been patched up to within an inch of their life over the years. The décor was shockingly old and, the workmanship (if you can call it that) was woeful. It has obviously been a hotel at some point in is past, which is fine, but I would have expected it to have been fully refurbished when it moved from a hotel to a rental property. The rooms still had numbers on their 1970's doors and there were Health & Safety fire signs all over the place.
How Sykes can rate this property as 5 Ticks giving it 'Exceptional standard with a degree of luxury' I have absolutely no clue.
I have no axes to grind with anyone either at Sykes or VRBO, or anyone else connected to this property. I've stayed at some wonderful properties in The Lakes, but I feel that everyone should know exactly what they are getting with this property. I very much think that there is a place for a cheap six bedroom holiday let in Keswick, and this may be perfect for you, if it is, then fill your boots. But it's a no from me.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about Squirrel Lodge. We sincerely apologize that your stay fell short of expectations. We appreciate your honest comments and will take them into consideration for future improvements, however it was also dissapointing for us that none of these issues or concerns were rasied during your stay, as we would have done everything we could to give you a better experience in the moment.
We strive to ensure all our listings accurately reflect the property. We'll revisit the description to better represent the accommodation.
Thank you for letting us know. We wish you all the best in finding perfect accommodations for your future travels.

"We are a walking group(of varying size)who come to the lakes Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar and have been visiting for the last 25 years."
.The house appeared to be ideal for us. However although I appreciate it was a bitterly cold weekend (not that unusual) and I am aware that energy is expensive but when you pay over £1200 for the weekend I don't think it unreasonable to come back to awarm house. It proved impossible to get the downstairs warm. This was not appreciated after a day on the hills. What a shame. Its a nice house. We certainly won't be booking again in the winter and couldn't recommend for anyone else. The heating system and the controls simply not up to the task.
If you were looking to cook the kitchen was a bit short of available dishes and stuff somewhat less than ideal.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We regret to hear that your recent experience did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the heating and kitchen facilities. It was unfortuate that we didn't hear from you at all during your stay as the heating issue could have easily been rectified as we can adjust the system remotely.
We genuinely apologize for any discomfort caused by the difficulty in warming up the downstairs area, especially after a day on the hills. We understand the importance of a cozy environment, and we're sorry for any inconvenience you faced. Your comments regarding the heating system and controls are duly noted, and we will review these aspects to ensure improvements are made.
Additionally, we appreciate your observation about the kitchen supplies. We will certainly address this issue to ensure that future guests have all the necessary items for a seamless cooking experience.
We value your feedback as it helps us enhance our services, and we hope you might reconsider and give us another opportunity to provide you with a more positive experience in the future. "Lovely big house for a large group of people."
We were a mixed group of runners who came up to do some walking in the area. The kitchen was equipped with everything you would need to cater for a large group. The furnishings were lovely. The bedrooms were all beautiful and there seemed to be an abundance of bathrooms in the property so there was never a queue. It’s an easy walk into the town centre and to the shoreline.
Would definitely recommend.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Your group sounds fantastic, and it's wonderful to hear that the house met your needs with its well-equipped kitchen, beautiful furnishings, and ample bathrooms. If there's anything specific that stood out or any suggestions you have for improvement, feel free to share. We look forward to welcoming you again if you decide to return to the area.

"Great size property."
Few issues which to be fair were dealt with swiftly by management.
The house does need some upkeeping - photos appear to be old and the house needs TLC.
Dining room was a great size - kitchen is a bit on the small size for a group of 12.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm pleased our management team addressed your concerns promptly. We'll certainly look into updating the photos and we have added some extra features to make guests feel more comfortable in the house since your stay. Your feedback is valuable, and we hope to host you again with an even more enjoyable stay.
