"Good location and views."
Beds comfortable. But generally house was tired and in our opinion overdue for a serious freshening up. Lounge not big enough, or enough furniture for 8 in it's present configuration. Interesting that a certificate on the wall showed a rating by Visit England dated 2018/19.....think it may struggle in its current condition. The garden was great for children, but caution, there is a very low wall at the bottom with a fair drop on the other side into sheep field. Part of the side wall had collapsed and was left in a dangerous state, more collapsed with one of our little ones nearby! Long grass around the fallen rubble indicated it had been like this for some time. Reported to cleaner, but no response. Left without kettle for 2 days, was told by Sykes that it was owner managed and message left....frustrating commu ication problem here. Paying £2,200 for the week, expected better, and would have thought we qualified for a simple welcome pack! The Lakes was in prime autumnal condition, fells, landscape, lakes, mountain passes etc, lit up by daily autumn sun.....stunning, we were lucky. Views from the garden were lovely. Great week with wider family group.

"This farmhouse beat all expectations the condition of the house and cleanliness was amazing."
The views from the bedroom windows and in fact all front of house windows could not be beaten anywhere in the world. We had the most amazing holiday and lifetime memories One of the best holidays and location I have ever experienced
-
"Beautiful old farmhouse which felt really homely, was clean and well equipped."
We really enjoyed our stay.
-
"Cottage was lovely, however the double mattress In the room without the ensuite is very lumpy."
Springs gone on one side. My husband and I slept with the kids, ended up leaving 1 day early as just not able to sleep. Also we had to fix one of the kitchen cupboards as the door hinge was loose (mug cupboard). Location stunning just a shame given the price of the property that these items were an issue.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay, we are delighted to hear that you loved the cottage and location. We take all comments on board and make changes/improvements where we can and can confirm that the mattress which you have highlighted as uncomfortable for yourselves has now been replaced with new. "We had a wonderful stay and the views are stunning."
It’s also a great location. Our little dog loved the garden. We did feel certain areas could have done with a deep clean and it would be nice to have a little welcome package like most properties provide, at least with some milk and bread. Otherwise we loved our stay

"Was a beautiful property set an a beautiful location."
Plenty of room and facilities. It’s the type of house you would love to stay in even if the weather was bad during your entire stay as it’s so cosy. The owners have taken every step to accommodate to our every need so a big thank you. We didn’t want to leave. We will most definitely stay again in the near future.

"Everything had been thought of."
Thankyou. Perfect for 2 little dogs.

"We spent Christmas 2023 at Low Longthwaite, a family of 4, 2 sets of grandparents and a dog."
The cottage was easy to find and plenty of parking for our 3 cars. On arrival the cottage was lovely and warm and welcoming on a cold dark day. We were pleased to find a box of biscuits and a bottle of milk and some teabags. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we might possibly have needed. I cant think of anything it didn't have! There were enough tea towels, bin bags and dishwasher products to last the week. The fridge freezer was a generous size and accommodated Christmas food for 8 easily. Equally, the oven is a great size and had no problems cooking up a feast of a christmas dinner. The rooms were all really generous in size, yet still felt really cosy. The pictures do not do them justice. This is a typical rustic farmhouse with low doorframes, so some ducking was required for our taller family members! The window seats were the best spot to sit and take in the spectacular views over Ullswater. We all found the beds to be really comfortable and everyone seemed to sleep well. Even the dog wad really settled from day one. The snug was a great extra living space and there were plenty of games, puzzles, books and dvds for entertainment. The cottage is in a superb location. Lots of local walks for the dog to explore. We took a trip into Pooley Bridge once or twice to stock up on milk and essentials. The surrounding areas are lovely to explore. On Boxing day we booked a return trip on the Ullswater Steamers down to Glenridding and back to Pooley Bridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again. A welcome booklet with some basic information might have been useful. It took us a while to find the bin, for reference, it's by the entrance of the driveway!

"We had a great few days in the property and would lv to go again the only thing was the bins were full and an information book about the heating and were to put rubbish, would have been useful, maybe so logs for fire there was no information about the Beding and what to do with it, maybe a little gesture for the guests who are staying as well wouldn’t go a miss when the property cost so much."
We had the best time. Thanks

"The cottage is in a great location and is comfortable, not the best stocked cottage we've ever stayed in but gave us a great base Unfortunately the en suite toilet blocked up on the first morning and filled up with waste."
There are signs up around the cottage to warn you not to put anything down sinks or toilets, which we hadn't. The toilet didn't drain away, so we had 1 bathroom with a toilet full of human waste from previous guests. I spike to Sykes and they said they'd request someone come out but no one came. This ruined our weekend, the smell was too much for us to use the room and we had to relocate the children to another room. The person at Sykes was really nice but no one came out, I wouldn't recommend this property or Sykes because of the risk of this happening to someone else

"Lovely, comfortable cottage with plenty of space."
Large bedrooms but certainly not Kingsize beds as listed. Nice quiet location and easy access into the Lakes. Pooley Bridge a village large enough for everything you need.
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
Beautiful house and the view was amazing. We had everything we could need and no issues with any appliances or the heating during our stay. This made the few days we stayed very pleasant and easy - exactly what we needed.
-
"Really lovely location with views of Ullswater and surrounding hills."
Spacious property with plenty of room for 8 guests in comfort - nice sofa bed downstairs if you don’t have two couples for the double beds. This is a great base for walking with routes up Helvellyn and Castye Cam from Glenridding 10 mins up the road. Pooley Bridge 10 minutes the opposite direction and a fine pub 20 minutes walk away. Would defo stay again.
-
"This is a lovely holiday cottage, spacious and comfortable with a big front garden enclosed so dogs and children can run about and the view of Ullswater from the front is just amazing, It feels very rural as it stands elevated and on its own up a long private drive but it is near enough to Dacre and Pooley Bridge with all their facilities and excellent pubs."
The kitchen was well-equiped with a huge table big enough to seat we six (three generations) comfortably. The one negative was that it felt a wee bit unloved, in need of a littleTLC. Just small things like worn and cracked washing up bowls and rucked carpets which in parts didnt look too clean but that didn't detract from the bigger picture and I would happily return with our motley crew

"We had a really lovely weekend at the house."
It was a really great location for walking in the area on the Ullswater way. The house was clean and very easy to find. The only thing we found was it was a little bit cold when we arrived and we were not sure how to adjust the heating settings. There were also no logs provided for the wood burner. Although a shop in Pooley Bridge which was a 5 minute drive did sell them so we had a lovely fire on Saturday night. I can also recommend the Pooley Bridge inn for drinks and food. But best to book as they were always busy. We would definitely stay again!

"We stayed at Low Longthwaite Farm over the 2022 Christmas period (22 December - 29 December)."
We found the property to be very spacious, clean, extremely comfortable and equipped to a very high standard. It was cosy and we appreciated the central heating and log burner. The views from the property are spectacular which were enhanced by overnight snow on Boxing Day. We had a lovely family Christmas at the property and would love to return. We have no hesitation in recommending Low Longthwaite Farm to others. We had one issue; the fridge door did not close properly so that it did not seal. We contacted the agent and within one hour someone attended to inspect the appliance. Next morning (Christmas Eve) the fridge freezer was replaced with a brand new appliance. This was outstanding service with which we were very impressed.
-
"The family shower had a major leak and was inoperable for the majority of the stay and was not repaired."
The fridge freezer stopped working throughout the stay and was also not repaired. Very poor service.
-
"Great Cottage in a wonderful location."
We enjoyed the stay very much. There are plenty of things to do, but even the cottage facilitates all kinds of recreation from sitting on a bench and drink some tea to reading a book while overlooking Ulswater or play some games at a large table. Great place to stay.
-
"We love, love, loved our week at Low Longthwaite Farm."
The cottage has everything we needed for a perfect week in the lakes. The view is stunning, such a perfect location for your morning coffee! The garden is accessible and safe (we had my 3 year old niece with us). The location is far enough away to be peaceful but close enough to amenities. Would recommend the Brackenrigg Inn just down the road for food, amazing meal there. We had to contact the caretaker as there was a power cut and they were great with communication and reassured us we would have power back soon. We can’t wait to come back.
-
"The cottage is very comfortable, roomy, clean and well equipped."
We had a little trouble working out the timings for the heating, and there weren't any instructions, but we managed something which suited us. The location is great, the view superb. Who minds washing up with that view from the kitchen window! The weather wasn't great, but we have had worse in the many years of Lakeland holidays. Ps. The holiday park up the road does great fish and chips in their chippy.

"This is a lovely house in a stunning location with a few caveats: The heating stopped working on second day."
I called Sykes and they said they'd get an engineer out but this didn't happen. Luckily we found a note a previous visitor had written by the boiler saying to switch the controls to 24 hours and then use the radiator thermostats to control the heat. We used this manual system for our stay. We got a courtesy call from Sykes towards the end of our stay to check it had been fixed. They were unaware no engineer had visited. It was a shame to have no cookings oils or any condiments in the house, so we had to buy in everything to be able to cook. I had checked with Sykes about the size of the double bed before booking as there had been a couple of comments about it not being a Superking (I think, but now can't access the property listing - not sure if it's no longer listed). It is certainly not a superking which was disappointing. There was no folder with any information about the house. The wood burner didn't draw well, so no roaring fires.

"This is the third occasion we have rented this property (previous two occasions in the past through a different agent) and again we had a wonderful stay."
We love everything about it - the location, the view, the spacious rooms, the lay-out, the comfort and the facilities. When we stayed before, prior to lockdowns, it advertised that there was a sofa bed in the snug that could be used (it still is) which potentially increased guests to 10. Unfortunately we had to leave out 2 of our family this time. A small niggle - there were only 4 wine glasses and we had to use small tumblers. Also there were not enough champagne glasses and one was badly cracked so we disposed of it. But overall - wonderful.
-
"Great place, lovely location."
Would recommend. Minor note, a few basic essentials were limited, bin bags, toilet rolls.
-
"What an amazing location."
Very close to Ullswater lake and Aira Force. The house was lovely and warm on our arrival which was a cold November day. The set out try with fresh milk and a packet of shortbread was much appreciated. Our only reservation would be the size of the beds. One of the doubles is probably only 4th 6in and the second double 5ft, which resulted in my partner and l sleeping in separate beds!! Such a shame as there is plenty of room in all the bedrooms for larger beds. The single beds are not big enough for tall of large adults.

"Excellent house in a beautiful area."
Caretaker sorted out the hiccups promptly. Sadly the garden is not dog proof....poor dogs. Do hope to stay there again.

"We were very comfortable at Low Longthwaite Cottage, it was very peaceful and the view of the lake and Arthur's Pike were just wonderful."

"On arrival the property was filled with flies."
Other locals told us there has been a real problem with them this year. I understand that a rural country property next to farmland and a lake may well have flies. What I don't understand is why nothing is done to mitigate this? There were sticky fly tapes in most of the rooms which had clearly not been changed for ages. They had gone a yellow colour and were covered in flies (photos on request). Thus on arrival at our holiday the first thing I had to do was drive to Penrith to buy flytrap. Why did the cleaner not raised this and say "I can't leave the property in this state, we need to be replacing the flytraps"? Why not tell customers in advance to take fly spray and sticky flytraps? On the Friday afternoon we arrived I raised this by telephoning you and I was told in a wonderfully reassuring voice that the owner would be contacted. I never heard anything since. Splendid service. The bottom freezer drawer was frozen closed because the freezer had not been defrosted for ages. We had to do this (photos available on request). You make a big deal about cleaning properties with coronavirus, but it would be impossible for the cleaner to have cleaned the freezer properly when the draw didn't open. Beds dreadfully uncomfortable. Water did not drain away out of main shower so we had to use the other shower. No nonslip mat which are usually provided when we book with other companies. No draining board. Why? I have not met anybody since I was a student who did their washing up and did not have a drainer for the dishes. Just generally another experience of Sykes and their owners doing the bare minimum. Wonderful property location, loads of space et cetera. The owner may be a good bloke for all I know, but I do find other holiday companies tend to just have better properties with higher quality. We were desperate when booking this one but otherwise will not use Sykes again Many thanks
Thank you for taking the time to feedback after your recent stay at Low Longthwaite Farm. We apologise for the condition of the fly papers and accept that they should have been changed. In future our housekeeping team will ensure they are checked regularly. Fly spray is always also available. Regarding the freezer draw, we are assured that the freezer was defrosted 2 weeks before Mr Wells stay. We will be checking the freezer for any mechanical issue. Mr Wells was also unhappy with the beds. The guests who followed on found the beds “lovely” and complimented us on the quality of the linen. Whether a bed is comfortable or not is subjective. In the 12 years Low Longthwaite has been open to guests, no one has requested a draining rack but we will consider all constructive suggestions. The main shower had not previously or subsequently been reported as faulty by guests. We will ask our housekeeping team to investigate. Finally, we are committed to investing in Low Longthwaite with an ongoing programme of redecoration and improvement and take great pleasure in sharing this fine house in its stunning location with our guests. "We could not be more delighted with our stay at Low Longthwaite Farm, Ullswater."
Blissfully remote, absolutely stunning scenery, very peaceful. The house was so well-equipped with every mod con you could need, including tip top wi-fi and mobile signal. Even the sofas were comfy - a real rarity in holiday lets! Lovely beds with really high quality sheets and pillows, sharp knives in the kitchen, plenty of hot water, and everything spotlessly clean. Lots to do in the area, too, without having to schlep over to the honey pot of Windermere. Thank you so much for a restful and tranquil week in the Lakes!
-
"There was no outside bin to put rubbish in."
There was no information booklet/advice about the house or eg where to eat or walk locally. The house could have been better equipped- eg only one bin liner, no dishwasher tablets, which felt v stingy considering the cost of the property.

"We have just had a very comfortable stay at Low Longthwaite Farm."
Everything we needed was there (apart from a grater) and it was so comfortable. Since the weather was beautiful we spent most of our time in the garden soaking up the view. Our only disappointment was that there were no recycling facilities.
-
"When we arrived, in the rain, cold and dark, the hot water was off and the heating was on but the thermostat set at 0."
Also the oven had been switched off so the clock wasn’t set hence the oven wouldn’t work. We wanted to eat in a few evenings because it’s outdoor only but couldn’t use the oven. Apart from that the house was very nice and once we got the heating working warm.

"Everything!"
Perfect for a big family get together.

About the location
WATERMILLOCK
Pooley Bridge 2.5 miles; Glenridding 6.2 miles; Penrith 8.5 miles.
The elevated scattered village of Watermillock runs parallel to the main road alongside Ullswater Lake and is mainly a farming community. Just 2.5 miles away is Pooley Bridge with its array of amenities which sits on the northern shore of the lake in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley originated due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. Glenridding (meaning glen overgrown with bracken) is a small tourist village with a range of local shops, cafes and restaurants. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Watermillock is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
