  • "Glen cottage is a lovely well equipped little cottage and we wish we could’ve enjoyed it more."

However having the bedrooms from the cottage next door above us was a nightmare as there was children being children staying in them which entailed running and jumping and banging on wood floors for hours on end which disturbed our evenings and spooked our dogs. It was after midnight last night before the jumping stopped. Also we didn’t realise that the garden was on the side of the cottage and that we’d have to walk the dogs around to it rather than just letting them out. Good job we had a torch as it was very dark on an evening . In addition it is advertised as having a kingsize bedroom so we assumed it would have a kingsize but it didn’t.

  • "This was our second holiday at Glen Cottage and it was as good as our previous trip."

When we arrived the cottage hadn’t been turned around from the previous guests. A quick call to the housekeeping team and all was sorted. The housekeepers arrived within 20mins and got to work. They did a great job and were very apologetic. Everything in the cottage was as we remembered. We had some great weather so made use of the garden. Will definitely be back.

The views are gorgeous and the location is ideal for exploring the lakes. We met the owner Joy during our stay and she could not have been nicer. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

  • "The floorboards from Beckwood as so creaky."

. it's fine if there's no one there but unfortunately the place was full for the duration of my stay. The guests from the 3rd to 8th at Beckwood were a group of youngsters who were up until 1am crashing around upstairs which kept me awake. They had 5 cars with them and took up the whole parking area and even onto the grass. They also used all the hot water - I tried to shower at random times during the day but because there were so many of them, they'd used it all. The shower is also really challenging to control and very hot. I had to have it on low flow to keep it at a manageable temperature. The kitchen doors need changing as the dishwasher one looks so untidy but luckily doesn't affect function. I found the let very comfortable overall, the sofas were great, the bed was comfortable. Overall it was clean but I did use the hoover to improve on the rug cleanliness and the poor cleaner must have a challenging job as it hardly touches it - there was clearly a white dog staying previous! The WiFi was slow and I was hoping to complete some work whilst I was away but the WiFi inhibited my ability as it wouldn't open websites on my laptop. I would stay again, as it's the perfect base and minus the faults, I had an enjoyable time! But I would try to avoid it when Beckwood was full or ask the owners who is staying there to avoid people who stay up late!

Thank you for your informative feedback. We are glad that you found it a comfy, and I’m sure spacious stay. We are sorry about the guests at Beckwood, as so many guests get on well together during their stays. We are sorry about the sometimes creaky floorboards, depending on the amount of, and activity of the guests next door, but I’m afraid that we are not able to rectify this until later in the year. You will be pleased to know that since your stay , both cottages have had new heating systems put in, which should rectify any hot water problems. We are sorry for the amount of guests cars. That is more than is allowed to be on the premises, and if you’d notified Lakelovers, they would have tried to rectify this. We are so glad that you would stay again, as like you we do love the area, the views, and the positioning of the cottage. Thank you again. Property Owner

  • "This is an excellent cottage for a getaway."

Nicely out of the way and gives you the opportunity to avoid the bustle of the bigger towns whilst being close enough to both Keswick and Penrith to be able to easily take advantage of the facilities. We had a minor issue with the cottage heating not working initially, but the owner contacted an engineer and it was up and running again within a couple of hours. Fantastic service - can't ask for better. As others have commented, you can just about hear people in the above accommodation moving around, but if that keeps you awake at night, you're either a very light sleeper or the upstairs guests are grey with big ears and have recently flown in from the Savanna. The cottage is well equipped and the dishwasher was a pleasant surprise. Very comfortable bed (although this is always going to be a personal preference) and nice furnishings. The log burner was toasty on the wet February evenings. Would definitely sent it again!

Thankyou for this lovely review. We also appreciate the fact that it is quiet and yet also very easy to get to other places. We hope that you're able to stay again some time. Thankyou. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at Glen Cottage and will definitely visit again."

You can hear the people above but it didn’t bother us. The garden was a great addition on the fabulous sunny days we had. Watching the buzzards on an afternoon was lovely. The cottage was bigger than we expected and had everything we needed.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so glad you enjoyed Glen Cottage and would love to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "A couple of comments, The lock to the front door is difficult to turn and does not turn on the inside."

Side garden is listed as enclosed but currently has the gate missing. Apart from that, the cottage is very comfortable and works well enough for us, however, we were not impressed to learn that we were required to be out of the cottage at 9.00 am instead of the usual 10.00 am on the day of departure. Having the usual vacuum around didn’t happen!

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear you had a comfortable stay in Glen Cottage. We have passed all of your comments on. We hope to welcome you again soon. The owner relations team - Lakes Cottage Holidays Property Owner

  • "Firstly I’d like to say Glenn cottage is an amazing cottage with amazing views, apart from when the neighbours hiring the cottage adjoining parks both their cars infront of your window and then you can’t see anything!"

I only added the sad face in the feedback describing the advert of the cottage because it’s really misleading it should be more clear about having neighbours next door and sleeping above your front room. I’m sure it was as much of a shock to them as it was us! The advert really needs to be clear! We definitely wouldn’t of booked it if we had known. But apart from that we made the most of it and had a great time! What else could we do when they turned up next door like that.

  • "GLEN cottage is attached to another larger cottage, also to the farmhouse The farmhouse is above Glen cotttage so some living noise directly above can be heard."

The description does not make clear Beckwood ( sleeping 8) cottage garden is not enclosed at all and infact its more a shared space directly in front of Glen cottage. Im pleased noone was in during our stay as it would have been a bit intrusive to sit out on the furniture provided sharing with other neighbours. There were sheep in the front garden on our arrival so its not dog safe/ friendly. There is a small enclosed garden at the side of Glen cottage but you have to walk to it past any straying sheep or neighbouring dogs on the front lawn area. The flies in the kitchen are defnitely an issue as there are 3 rubbish bins directly outside the kitchen door. We did not use the door for this reason. These are constructive criticisms i feel other people will benefit knowing before booking Glen cottage. I have stayed in many cottages before and would say it is a 3 tick/ star rating at best. The description re gardens need to be made clearer.

  • "Overall, the cottage is a nice place to stay and the location is lovely."

Unfortunately, it was a very noisy place to stay. On our first night, we were unable to sleep because of the loud footsteps, crashing and banging from above which was in the very late hours of the night and continued for hours. We thought this may just be a one off or noisy behaviours but this was the case throughout unfortunately, even with a change in neighbours. The floorboards above are clearly in need of some work because the volume was on another level. The facilities and decor is very basic and it was extremely uncomfortable to shower as the water was scalding hot and something that seemingly couldn’t be changed. I can’t say that I would want to stay there again I’m afraid.

  • "Overall we enjoyed our stay at Glen Cottage: its location in the middle of nowhere was great, the views brilliant, the accommodation clean and the facilities good."

We enjoyed the four days we stayed in the Lake District very much and were rained on a lot (as you would expect) but also had periods of great weather too. There were a few things that could be better though: - the toilet was loose and it was a bit unnerving sitting on it at times. - we felt that the notices for dog owners left for us were somewhat blunt & abrupt. We, of course would look after the accommodation but to be told that we 'must' do this and 'must' do that did not set us up with a great feeling about the time there and stressed my wife more than it really needed to: rules are fine but please treat us as adults when it comes to keeping in line. - the description of the property could have been clearer. Whilst we were aware that it was a single storey, it was not made clear that part of the other rental property on site was in fact on top of our accommodation. There was significant noise from what I assume was an uncarpeted or hard floor above us every time people walked about or used the stairs. This was true of both sets of people using the accommodation so we assume it was the floors rather than the people. Fortunately, there was little noise during the night apart from the odd toilet flush(!) - the garden provided for us was very small and the grass very long - even though someone mowed the grass on the area reserved for the other accommodation, ours was left long meaning that it wasn't really practical to use the garden. Overall these are relatively minor quibbles but sorting them out would have resulted in a super score for the property.

  • "The cottage was OK but needs a little TLC the towel rail never worked and was full of rust in places not fit to hang a towel on."

The heating was underfloor but was never able to heat place on cold nights but luckily an electric fan heater was available so just coped. When stripping bedding at end of week a note asked us to put it all in a plastic bag but never found this . While stripping the bed noticed the mattress cover was far too small and hardly covered the whole of the mattress large parts were exposed.

  • "A very well equipped, comfortable cottage, well located for Keswick and the Lakes."

We enjoyed our stay but there were two issues of concern. Firstly the location of the refuse bins for both cottages being right outside the kitchen door of Glen Cottage posed a problem. The bins were overflowing on arrival and this resulted in us being unable to open either the kitchen door or window without an invasion of flies. We feel this is unhygienic and unacceptable and cannot understand why the bins are located there given that there is ample space around the property to provide a more suitable location. Secondly, the kitchen floor is needing replaced. There are several damaged floor tiles. On a minor matter, the heated towel rail in the bathroom is badly rusted and requires replacement. We are surprised at the high rating Sykes gives to this cottage given the comments above
