It's just a pity that the rain god didn't smile on us. Managed to gather about 2 kg of brambles (blackberries), so I feel some bramble gin and vodka in the offing with the soaked fruit being used in gin and vodka bramble jam!

! The house is perfect, you even have you own little patio looking over the fields, aswell as a beautiful woodland on the doorstep. There are countless beautiful walls close by. When it rained (inevitably) we went to Carlisle to play bowling and pool and finished off the weekend with a long walk on Lake Windermere which was about an hours drive. The house is cosy, spacious and has everything you could ever need. We will be back at some point this year if not next!!

  • "We were so lucky to be able to book this cottage so last minute."

It was fantastic value for a gorgeous cottage with everything you needed for a short break away. We loved the excellent quality of the property and particularly the kitchen. The shower was mighty impressive (albeit that the screen was slightly too small to contain the water) and the bath was a really good size and filled quickly with plenty of hot water. The log burner was great with the first fire already set up on arrival and all the supplies needed to use for the duration of the holiday. The cottage has access to some glorious woodland and river which we would thoroughly recommend to go and visit. We managed to make it down on the final day of our stay and it was so peaceful and tranquil. Location is rather good. It's isolated which is great for peaceful time away from the rush of life (The WiFi also assisted with this as was just enough to find information but not to be glued to phones) but not so isolated that you can't get to places. The lake district is less than an hour away and Scotland is a short drive. We had a Tesco delivery delivered to us on the first night, which took the stress away from finding a place to shop as there is not a large supermarket nearby. We were left be to enjoy the holiday though it was made clear that Julie and Tony were avaliable at any point should we need assistance which was greatly appreciated. We did manage to meet Julie on the last few days and she was lovely. The owners sent us an email with arrival information a few days before and the cottage had a handy booklet with all the information needed to enjoy the stay. We did have some small pieces of feedback which would have improved the holiday (Though please do note these a very minor and we thought the cottage was outstanding as it is!): - A fan would have been handy for the warmer nights - A full length mirror in the bedroom/bathroom for outfit checks - A slightly larger shower screen so water didn't spill onto the floor - With it being a working farm, some flies did appear in the cottage (Which is completely understandable) so something to help control them? All in all, we had a wonderful time and absolutely loved the cottage. We would recommend to anyone considering staying to do so as it is not a cottage to be missed. Thank you to Julie and Tony and we wish you the best for the future.

The owners Julie and Tony are so lovely and welcoming. I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some rural peace and quiet. Faraway Cottage totally ticked those boxes for me. Despite its name and rural location, I found the cottage to be in an excellent position - not far from shops and amenities in Carlisle, and some lovely places to visit all within easy reach - the Lake District, Solway Firth, and North Pennines, Hadrian's Wall and Kielder Forest. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Faraway Cottage and hope to visit again myself.

The facilities are all modern and well maintained. There is abundant hot water on tap and an excellent shower. The bed is roomy and comfortable, the living/dining area is a good-size with doors that open out onto the private pebbled patio/courtyard. Although the cottage is tucked away, Carlisle and the M6 gateway are easlily accessible. The woodland on the farm is peaceful and unspoiled and we so enjoyed our walks and soaking up the tranquility. The owners, Julie and Tony, and their family live next door and are friendly and welcoming, as was their lovely dog, Jessie! We can thoroughly recommend Faraway Cottage!

  • "We only had a short stay at Faraway Cottage, but it was relaxing and enjoyable."

The cottage was as expected, lovely layout and beautifully decorated/furnished. Really good sized kitchen and bathroom and very clean throughout. Can be really cold (winter months) but we made use of the log burner and adjusted the heating in the evenings. Julie was very welcoming on our arrival, providing lots of advice and prompting us to contact her at any time should we need anything. We would struggle to find anything negative to say about our stay really. We would certainly stay again and would highly recommend. A little advice for anyone else planning a trip here, particularly during dark winter nights.. take some dvds if you enjoy cosying up in front of the tv. There is a small selection in the cottage, and Julie kindly advised that they have lots of dvds in the farmhouse and that we only had to ask, but we didn't like to bother her or her family. Wifi is not great, again Julie did chat with us about this.. we took a firestick instead of dvds.. but best to take dvds. This is a teeny negative and probably wouldn't be an issue for most couples.

The cottage was well equipped and is in a great location if you like visiting places, but if you simply want to veg, well, it's great for that as well. We marked it down on comfort solely because of the settee, otherwise, the property was clean, fresh and warm, with good facilities. One thing to note, the WiFi is only sufficient for e mails and social media. Anyone taking games consoles or watching online films/tv would struggle. !! We have just had the most brilliant 3 nights stay. After a dismal year of not going anywhere we stumbled on this cottage and it just looked so quaint. It exceeded our expectations, it is gorgeous, full of charm. The 9 month old cows had just been let out into the field for the first time so was quite comical watching them. They became confident for a stroke. The walks to the river was hilarious as I got stuck in mud, saw wild deer, Hare, Woodpeckers and the peace of this place is glorious. The bed was very comfortable and lounging in front of the wood burning stove was a real treat. On arrival there were “ treats” left for us in the kitchen and everything we needed for our three night stay. The views from the patio doors were lovely and apart from spotting the odd cow or car in the distance, completely undisturbed. Waking to birdsong was a particular plus for me as was watching the beautiful sunset. We ventured out once to Brampton which was a lovely little town with antique shops, cafes and a food hall, so not far to go if something was needed but we loved being in the cottage so much we hurried back. The surrounding woodland is beautiful and a walk after breakfast on Sunday through the woods and down to the river, was very peaceful. Met the owners Julie and Tony briefly and they were as welcoming and pleasant as the cottage would suggest. Helpful and on hand but not intrusive. We have stayed in many cottages over the years but this is definitely our favourite and we shall return.

The original flagstone flooring takes you to the kitchen which has all the mod cons.
