"One of our party had a nasty accident on the wooden floored landing upstairs, slipping off not very visible steps down from each room to the landing itself."
Had to go to an and e, broken metatarsals in her foot. Going to be a long healing process. This has been pointed out to the owners, needs l e d lights or hazard tape on the edges. Also, no handrail up first part of stairs, something needed for older people. Radiator in one bedroom was on full at times and we were unable to turn it off. However, we did have a good holiday, great weather.

"Lovely homely cottage had everything we needed to celebrate our golden wedding ..."
Lovely homely cottage had everything we needed to celebrate our golden wedding well laid out for our family despite on a working farm it had no effect our our holiday we were not disturbed at all so a great big thank you to all bit out of the way but still that’s what we wanted a family get together so perfect we will definitely book this again best wishes for the future for the owners never got to meet them but my family had made arrangements for our anniversary

"Great cottage, very well appointed."
Really enjoyed our stay.

"We were a group of 6 adults and 6 teenagers from three different families."
The house was perfect for us. Plenty of space in the house to relax and escape from each other when required. Lots of hot water for showers after water sports on Ullswater and walking the local peaks. We are able to cook perfectly well, although it took a little while to get used to the cooker - a bit fierce! The outhouse nextdoor with an additional fridge was ideal for overspill food and drinks and also for drying out kit. There were plenty of tea towels, towels, crockery etc. All very useful. The owners were responsive when we started to run out of toilet paper and bin bags. The toilet seat in the downstairs ensuite needs a bit of attention but that's a small detail. We made lovely memories at Chimney Gill with friends and would very happily return. Thank-you!

"Great stay, thank you!"
Good communication in advance, spa passes were a great bonus (and the spa was lovely), comfy warm rooms and communal areas. We had a really lovely time and would totally recommend it for other groups. Only thing was we had to go out and get dishwasher tablets... would have been good to have a couple there to at least get people started but that's only a minor point.

"We spent Christmas at Chimney Gill with our family of 10 adults, 1 ‘pre teen’ and 2 toddlers."
It is a lovely cottage with plenty of room for all of us. Lots of equipment ( high chairs, travel cots, cooking utensils, towels etc) provided by the friendly owners who were quick to supply extra forks when requested. They had decorated the cottage for Christmas with a real tree which we appreciated. The house is very warm for the most part and the heating is easy to adjust. My son and his family found the ground floor bedroom a little cold at first but he turned the radiator up and was impressed by how quickly the room heated up. The owners recently had a new door fitted in the shower in the main bathroom but the shower still has a slight leak. The showers in the en-suites are very good. As keen cooks and bakers, we enjoyed working in the large kitchen, although perhaps we could have done with slightly more work surfaces to prepare Christmas dinner. We brought extra baking pans and roasting tins to cook over the Christmas period but in normal circumstances the owners have provided adequate pans and crockery. The location is a little remote (although easy to find) but we enjoyed trips out driving round the lanes admiring the scenery on our way to Carlisle (25 minutes) and to Grasmere (1 hour). We didn’t get chance to use the spa pass, but maybe another time. To summarise, we had a great time and would love to return. Thank you.

"The cottage was beautiful and had enough space to fit us all in for the weekend comfortably however the WiFi didn’t work and no real attempt was made to fix it even thought the issue was raised as soon as we arrived as coverage was patchy this made communication with others in our group difficult."
The main bathroom shower leaked into the kitchen dining room and again no attempt was made to rectify this. The promised fire supplies were a box of old fence posts with no kindling or fire lighters and with no close shops this was less than ideal. Given the issues we had v the cost of a weekend here I won’t be booking again.

"We spent the weekend at chimney gill with a big group of friends - 5 adults and 5 kids (aged 1-9)."
The house was absolutely perfect for our group- great big bedrooms with plenty bathrooms, big relaxing living space and fab outdoor space for the kids too. We enjoyed days out to Whinlatter forest and Keswick, and a morning swim at the hotel pool! The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
-
"Beautiful house, very well presented and plenty of room."
Lovely views and great area for access to many walk’s within 20 miles.
-
"We have been to this property before and have always had a wonderful stay."
-
"Great property for 10 people."
comfy beds with good quality bed linen and towels.plenty of outside area to sit in and play games.would have liked a larger kettle, another frying pan and some milk on arrival.easy access to the lakes.
-
"Two small areas for improvement."
The house was very cold when we arrived. The heating could have been turned up the day before. We missed a few basics:: a frying pan, enough dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, washing powder. We really enjoyed our stay!

"We loved our stay at Chimney Gill Cottage, such a beautiful cottage in such a beautiful location."
The cottage was extremely clean, bright and fresh. We have done many self catering cottages where you have to bring everything with you including soap for the bathroom but Chimney had it all and it was such a nice touch! The kitchen was well equipped and I even managed to cook a roast dinner for the 10 of us. We loved the open plan living area and especially the fire, it made it extra cosy and warm! I would most defiantly recommend this cottage and we will be booking it again the in the future.

"We had such a wonderful stay at Chimney Gill."
The house was equipped with everything we needed, the kitchen had everything - maybe just put a note up saying you need to flick the switch for the oven! Beds were comfortable, plenty of bathrooms, the living space is bigger than the photos and we easily fir 12 around the dining table. You have to drive a bit for a walk but there are some great local pubs/villages and fab walks. Thanks so much!

"6 adults 4 little ones, just back from a lovely stay."
everything was fantastic, plenty of space for little ones to play indoors as weather was wet for them to play outside. We had one little problem which was soon sorted out by the owners. Loved loved loved it BIG THANK YOU
-
"Lovely cottage, good facilities, great location."
-
"Great position in August outside the National Park."
Quiet and beautiful. Attractive villages and walks along the Cumbrian way.Surprising beaches along the Solway Firth, again almost deserted and yet safe and beautiful. The vouchers for the spa were much appreciated also. Some excellent and still challenging walks on the lower fells. Great pubs and gastro pubs within easy reach. Our only real issues were the Wifi. which for most of the holiday was down. This may be a blip as Graham told us they had been having some work done. We acknowledge that expectation needs to be lower in remote areas, but if Wi fi is offered it should be done so with some caveats.

"The accommodation was excellent, was like going into a posh hotel, very clean and spacious we would definitely return."
-
"Fantastic, well equipped home in rural Cumbria."
It felt like a home from home with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and not too far to travel for days out.
-
"We have just had a wonderful week with all the family at Chimney Gill."
It is a wonderful house for a large group. We had a very warm welcome from Graham, and beautiful Christmas decorations and a very generous welcome pack. The house is spacious, warm and very well equipped. The children loved a visit to the barns - thank you Graham!
-
"Enjoyed staying there with family."
-
"We were a group of friends using the cottage for birthday celebrations."
It was ideal for the purpose and to use as a base to go out and about, we did need a car for this. Although we had problems with the heating Graham and Tracey were on hand to sort things for us. I would certainly go back again.

"Gorgeous cottage , photos didn’t do it justice!"
Immaculate inside and lovely furnishings Beautiful location

"We had an amazing stay at Chimney Gill."
Large group of girls and cottage had everything we needed. Comfortable beds, great living space, great little suntrap and patio. Lovely touches included welcome basket with cereal, milk, bacon etc The cottage ticked all our boxes and we are already talking about booking up again. Can highly recommend the cottage - was perfect for our weekend away.
-
"Loved this cottage."
Comfortable, clean, lovely welcome pack. Highly recommend.

"We stayed 2 nights for a friends' hen party and couldn't have picked a better place to stay!"
The house was well laid out with plenty of space for everyone, the bedrooms spacious and plenty of space for our 4 cars (could probably have got at least 1 more car in). We hired a private chef who had no complaints about the kitchen, although we weren't sure on how to use the oven at first! The owners are very friendly, it's a working farm so there seemed to always be someone around on site. It was also lovely to wake up to the sound of sheep every morning!
-
"As we have used Sykes on several occasions we knew exactly what (high level) service to expect and, yet again, were not disappointed."
-
"The farm is really lovely, and bigger than it looked on the Sykescottages photos."
Everything we needed was there, there were 12 of us staying and its is fully equipped for 12. It was a cold week in February when we went, the farm is centrally heated and lovely and toasty warm. The pretty villages of Hesket Newmarket and Caldbeck are near by and worth a visit. We loved the Old Crown Inn pub and Brewery in Hesket. The farm is roughly half way between Penrith and Carlisle which was convenient for people arriving and leaving by train and there are good supermarkets in Penrith.
-
"Beautiful cottage with everything you need in a rural setting."
We were welcomed with fairy lights outside and a beautiful tree and decorations inside. Woke up to see the sunrising across the fields where the sheep were waiting patiently for the farmer to come and feed them. Perfect!
-
"Fantastic host and welcoming."
Beautiful farm house and very spacious for 3 families. Highly recommended
-
"The house is really good size for a team of 10 adults and some children."
We noticed one bedroom bed not very comfortable -the ground floor bedroom. Except that everything was very good.
-
"Doesn't specify right on a working farm, which may have been an overlook on my part."
However, the cottage was beautiful. We arrived to a lovely welcome package and a clean, warm cottage. Towels were laid out on the bed and everything felt so cosy and warming. The stay was quiet, in a great location and such a wonderful way to spend a birthday. Everyone we passed on the farm was lovely and helpful. This place is perfect for a group of friends, a family or even a romantic trip away. I cannot fault anything.

"We picked this cottage for a gathering of friends from around the UK."
It is well located to the Lakes, just 30mins to Keswick and very easy to get to from the M6 and nobody had any issues finding the cottage. On arrival there was a lovely basket with things to get use settled in and milk, bacon and bread so we could get a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich. The cottage was spotless and well equipped for a group of people. Everybody said how comfy the beds were and there was enough space for everybody. The host family was amazing and catered for our every need, even when we left the key with the other half of the group they went out of their way to get another one for us. A definite plus was the access to the spa which was a lovely treat. In conclusion I would highly recommend this cottage and it was a pleasure to stay there. Thank you

"This was our first getaway holiday for three families with kids ranging from 2 to teens and this lodge was more than adequate to accommodate all of us."
Tracey and her family were helpful with setting up beds for the little ones and the welcome pack was very generous, kids especially liked the local sourced bacon! The lodge was on a working farm so kids like seeing the baby lambs as it was Spring and the staff were more than glad to tell us about lambing season, although the weather didn't think so but held out for majority of our stay The property looked recently refurbished with tasteful contemporary colour schemes and very well kept with a log fire and central heating that was up to the task on the chilly nights. Everything from the room décor and bedding was fresh and served our needs well and space for kids to kick a ball around. Location was off a country road with good access to north lakes for days out but return to a cosy warm house. We made use of the complimentary passes to the local spa and baths at North Lakes hotel in Penrith, which the kids liked as an indoor activity on an evening and the adults relaxed in the sauna and Jacuzzi; Penrith was also handy for that shopping and for quick bites. Chimney Gill was a pleasant surprise when we first entered due to its size of rooms, cleanliness and facilities there with enough plates and crockery in the kitchen as well as a great range oven making nights in easy to feed everyone Plenty to do around this area weather dependant and we have some fantastic memories of our time there and highly recommend Chimney Gill

"Chimney Gill was just the perfect place to stay with our far-flung family."
There was plenty of space for everyone to sit, eat and relax, and the bedrooms were spacious and well appointed. We have been in some lovely cottages in the past but this house exceeded all of them and we would very much like to repeat the experience. We didn't meet Tracey but Joyce, her mother-in-law, was on hand to provide any help. She even sent on some money that we left behind. We couldn't have asked for better and look forward to seeing everyone again in the very near future.

"Wow. The web site doesn't do justice to this property."
It was very spacious and it catered for all of our needs. The welcome pack was very generous. There was even a vase of fresh roses. Would definitely recommend it for all ages. We were aged 20 months to 83 and we had a wonderful stay.
-
"We were very pleased with everything from the generous welcome pack to the friendly and helpful owners."
The use of the pool was fantastic for the rainy day and both children and their accompanying adults enjoyed themselves. The garden was a bonus and the layout of the house and size of the rooms really worked for our family group with the snug becoming a playroom for the children. The location allowed us to explore the lakes easily but was peaceful. I would definitely recommend this house to friends wanting a large property to stay in.
-
"We were delighted with the cottage, it was very clean and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen (except for a masher)."
The breakfast pack was a wonderful surprise. The cottage was easy to get to, in a quiet location on a working farm. Two minor issues were dealt immediately without any fuss. I wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again, the children have all asked to visit again.

"Chimney Gill suited our family group extremely well in terms of space, comfort, layout of rooms, cleanliness, facilities and equipment."
The beds were clean and comfortable and there were more than enough fluffy white towels and constant hot water for 9 adults and 4 children. A travel cot was provided for the youngest child. The kitchen was well equipped and the garden was a great space for our young grandchildren to run around and play in. The owners were friendly and approachable and live nearby, though not on site. They supplied a very generous welcome pack consisting of milk, fresh eggs, bacon, bread, cereals, jams, tea and coffee plus a couple of bottles of wine and some fresh flowers in a vase. All much appreciated. We were fortunate in having some good weather and had a barbecue one evening. The only suggestion we would have for the owners is to perhaps consider having some hooks in the bedrooms and bathrooms for hanging up clothes and/or towels, otherwise It was pretty much perfect. The location was great as it was not too far for family members to drive from Edinburgh and Newcastle as it is not far off the M6. This converted farmhouse sits in pretty countryside and has no neighbours close by to worry about noise levels with young children and it's location allows easy access to the Northern Lake District and the National Park. All in all we had a great week and can recommend Chimney Gill as a comfortable holiday house.
-
"The owner was very helpful and friendly and far exceeded our expectations."
The cottage seemed bigger when we got inside than it looked from the outside. I would definitely recommend it.
-
"Great for family get together in comfort and well appointed home."
Welcome pack was great and everything needed was there. Would recommended
-
"The warmest welcome from the owners who were friendly and informative."
The property exceeded our expectations in space, high spec finishes throughout and the excellent cleanliness. All the towels and bed linen were of the highest quality and again were spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was extremely generous. An amazing stay and we would highly recommend this property.
