  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was comfortable and clean and all we needed. The weather wasn't great but we had a lovely weekend exploring the area. It was in a perfect location peaceful with stunning views. Margaret was easy to contact and very helpful. We will definitely be visiting again.

This was made very clear so not a surprise, but unusual as nowadays most cottages and Air bnb do supply them.

  • "The cottage location is absolutely wonderful."

It’s within walking distance of Bassenthwaite Lake and only a short drive from Derwent Water. The views are spectacular and it’s well connected with bus routes. Being able to use the garage to store a bike was so helpful. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The cottage was comfortable and a pleasant base to explore the local area from. There is a great supply of books and games in the little games room. The kitchen is well equipped but would benefit from some additional trays and pans. Parking was either right in front of the cottage which was great for unloading or in a slightly more accessible car park at the front of the property. We found it hard to properly dry clothing/towels/swimwear on days when the weather wasn’t dry enough to hang things out but in good weather they dried easily on the line. Excellent value for money in a wonderful location. We had a great stay - thank you!

  • "Peaceful, quiet location with outstanding views."

Hosts on hand if needed but not intrusive. Cottage furnishings a little outdated but did not bother us, 2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms so we were spoilt for space. It was a privilege to stay in such a fantastic area. Somewhere you would dream to live! Thanks.

  • "We had a really nice stay."

The place is setup nicely and much bigger than expected so plenty of space for whatever you bring with you. The beds are comfy and the showers really good. There is easy access to Bassenthwaite for water sports and access to the hills behind and around for walking and running. The only thing that might confuse some people is that despite the name "Bramble Cottage" it isn't a standalone cottage, it is a set of rooms with other accommodation above and to the side. You are completely separate from any other visitors though.

  • "The flat is a little hard to find, even with the owner’s directions, as there is no name sign on the road."

Parking in front of the flat obscures the view, so after unloading it is best to use the owner’s car park and walk up through their garden. There may be washing hung up in front of the flat, which is not clear from the pictures, and people regularly walk past the front. Everything is on the ground floor and as there are 2 bedrooms facing the front this could be inconvenient when dressing. There is a flat above, but we only heard occasional footsteps. An issue with the wifi was quickly resolved when the owners were made aware of it. The furnishings are generally comfortable but a little tired and some of the kitchen equipment, eg the bread knife, could usefully be replaced. The laundry bag for bed linen was nowhere to be found and was brought round by the owner as we were about to leave. Towels were provided, contrary to what it says in the listing, though some of them were well worn. The flat is well located for walks from the front door and there are excellent local bus services, which we used on several days. In general it is a good base for exploring the area, but not ideal if you want to rest quietly and enjoy the view.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Bramble cottage."

The view was superb and the cottage comfortable. It was ideally placed for walking (we did 32 Wainwrights, 16 of them direct from the cottage and the others within fairly short drives). Although the pub and shop were about 40 minutes walk away this was through pleasant countryside and we often spotted a red squirrel on the way! Also saw a red squirrel right in front of the living room window which was a real bonus. We would happily book again if we were wanting to stay in the same area.

  • "We had everything we needed to make our visit a pleasure."

Views, perfect position for access to the majority of the Lakes, peaceful and comfortable. Half the four slice toaster doesn't work but that didn't stop us from enjoying breakfast while watching the sun come up over the hills. Our only regret was that we didn't leave enough time to do the really local area, but then that gives us an excuse to go back next year!

Great views and has everything you need. It is small but more than enough space for 5. The cottage is not near town but this did not matter as it is easy to go by car to any of the many attractions. There are walks straight out of the door in the forest.

  • "Heating was controlled by owner and it got very cold through night and was only on for 2hrs in morning so you had to rush and shower or it would be cold !"

There was a wall electric fire in lounge ,asked the owners and was told it hadn't worked for "years"and was there only for decorative purpose,s but didn't even light up !!Was asked to electric humidifier in bathroom when in use ,there wasn't room and also it was plug in ,in the hallway !But it was clean ,lovely views from the cottage and would go back if these things that are mentioned where rectified

The owner is sorry to hear that you were unable to adjust the heating after they showed you how to control it.. It is on a timer 3 times a day but they also showed you how to over ride the system to leave you in control. If you were still struggling they were on hand to assist at any time. The electric fire is there for decorative purposes only and is not listed in the features, most customers have no need for it as the cottage is very cosy and warm. The dehumidifier is left for use after a shower as the bathroom is ventilated by a fan in the ceiling with no windows to dispel excess condensation. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The location of Bramble cottage was perfect for access to the Lake district & the local area."

It was clean & warm but we were disappointed with the general level of decor inside. The lounge area was outdated & not very comfortable, the kitchen could do with some modernisation (the wallpaper & china are from the 50s?) plus the pots & pans were limited - only 1 frying pan for example. The back room smelt of damp & the heating didnt work so we closed the doors & didnt use this space. Several light bulbs were also out around the cottage - nothing significant to warrant contacting the owner but just gives a sign of lack of attention to detail. The bedrooms were clean, linen was lovely. The showers were hot & powerful but the bathrooms are dated & there was rust on the towel rail in the bathroom & a broken shower tray repaired with tape! In line with other cottages listed by Sykes I was underwhelmed. However, it did not spoil our week & I would look at Sykes again but will be more stringent on vetting a listing in future. Thanks

Thank you for your feed back. We're sorry you did not find the property to your liking. We do supply enough cooking utensils for the occupancy the property allows. Thank you for letting us know about the light bulbs, we have since fixed this issue. The heating was checked and confirmed as working, we're sorry you had issues with this. Property Owner
