  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Hosts were really pleasant and helpful and the dogs were lovely. We will certainly go back there again.

Everything perfect and the location splendid. Tim and Andrea did all they could to make us at home. We look forward to returning there next year. Thanks again to Tim and Andrea. P Jones

  • "The cottage was as described online, it was clean comfortable and provided everything we needed for a great break."

I noticed a previous reviewer complained about the beds we had no such problems finding them more than comfortable. The owner Tim was very welcoming and advised us on activities and services in the quieter northern lakes area. I would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone

  • "Lovely location and very friendly hosts ."

Unfortunately the mattresses on both double beds were a major problem . They were incredibly uncomfortable, probably old and caused quite severe back pain. For this reason we would not recommend this property.

  • "We had the most amazing stay, our hosts Tim & Andrea were so friendly & went out of their way to meet our needs."

A beautiful cottage with everything you need. Thank you for the welcome pack, especially the fresh full fat milk from the local farm, as not something we have at home. Lots of places to visit in beautiful surroundings in a peaceful and relaxing environment. We will definitely be back again with our dog Riley

Hosts very welcoming and helpful with advice on where to go, what to see and do. A nice walk along the local stream (beck) down to the village pub for some great food and drink. Will definitely return. Loved it.

The Annexe contained everything we needed. The owners had left a welcome pack which was a lovely surprise.

  • "The property and location was lovely Very peaceful, very clean, the only three things we would have changed was some curtains on the bedroom window as the blind just let in too much light got us, a king size bed instead of a double and a walk in shower instead of a bath, but we would still stay here again and would definately recommend this property."

The owners was lovely even though we didn’t meet them they emailed us with information about the village which was very much appreciated. The welcome tray/ pack was brilliant - thank you!!

  • "Lovely cottage, very clean and carefully thought out, in a very peaceful, tranquil location."

An amazing welcome pack provided by the owners which was very unexpected. Located in a small village which has a couple of cafes, a pub and Priest’s mill which sell lots of locally made gifts. Within easy access to many parts of the lakes. The owners live on site and are very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend a stay in this cottage at Caldbeck.

  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful location."

Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Great freedom for our little dog. The bedrooms, bathrooms were lovely and up to date but we struggled a bit with the small kitchen. Caldbeck a delightful village and Swaledale Watch is near enough to enjoy the pub, shop and Priestmill Cafe. Wool shop to die for. All in all a lovely place to stay. Thank you.

  • "This is a fantastic cottage, we'd definitely stay here again."

Everything was spotlessly clean and the owners provided a huge range of items to help you cater for yourself, plus a very generous selection of food and drink. The owners were lovely too, so friendly and welcoming, and just across the driveway if you needed anything. The location is wonderful too, gorgeously quiet and rural but within walking distance to the village (with shop/café/pub/petrol station) and just a short drive to the bigger towns. The only slight negative is the small kitchen but even that is big enough to cook a meal for five! Ingeniously designed, it's got everything you need for a short stay. 10/10 would come again.

The owners were by far the best we've had in over 20years of renting cottages, they couldn't do enough for you and the goodies they left out for us were well appreciated and the cottage itself was unbelievable and situated so handy for visiting the lakes, thank you Tim and Andria x

  • "Lovely cottage and lovely hosts."

Very compact living area with large bedrooms, each with own en-suite. Dining table and chairs are available and folded. It is possible to make space for them by moving furniture but most adult groups probably wont bother. Kitchen is tiny but very well thought out. we found it easy to prepare food in kitchen, but having a crate to store bulk food elsewhere turned out to be useful. We brought our little dog who felt welcome there and got on well with the hosts' dog. There was lots of space for her for constitutional walks although no enclosed garden. The area is absolutely lovely for walking and cycling: much quieter than the central Lakes. There is a pleasant pub in the village which serves food as well as a selection of real ales. We did not go in during our week as the vegetarian options were not terribly appealing and we were off drinking following Covid. There is also a great little cafe that serves nice lunches and proper teapot tea. Overall, a nice cosy place to stay with very friendly and helpful hosts. Overall, would highly recommend

About the location

CALDBECK

Wigton 7.5 miles; Carlisle 12 miles; Keswick 16 miles; Cockermouth 17 miles.

The charming Cumbrian village of Caldbeck is situated on the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park and is surrounded by beautiful moorland and fells. It’s a classic stone built village with a church, pub, village green and duck pond. The church dates back to the 12th century and is famous for being the resting place of the renowned huntsman John Peel. Although in every sense a ‘traditional working village’, the local craft centre at Priest Mill and the riverside walks to the Howk gorge, draw visitors to Caldbeck. The village is an ideal base for the northern Lakes, the market town of Keswick, as well as Lakes Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. The natural beauty of the Solway coast, well-known for its golf courses and the town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth are close by, whilst also within driving distance is the cathedral city of Carlisle, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders.
