  • "A second stay at High Raise - we wouldn't have booked it unless we loved it the first time!"

The flat is very comfortable and the views are incredible. It is well equipped and spacious. One small improvement would be a clothes airer (maybe stored in the hoover cupboard or the clothes cupboard?) as that would really help to dry damp clothes after a rainy walk. We look forward to visiting for a third time sometime next year.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback . We are delighted that you enjoyed the flat for a second time - especially the views from all the windows. Following your helpful suggestion, we have now added a clothes airer along with the boot drier. \we look forward to welcoming you back to \high \raise in 2025. • "We stayed last week at High Raise."

The property is lovely and bright with absolutely amazing views both front and back of the surrounding mountains at Grassmere. The property was also very quiet and fairly easy to access despite a number of steps from the car park. The car park itself was a little tight due to the amount of properties allocated car parking spaces but the buildings were not designed to be holiday cottages so that couldn't be helped. However it was off road and safe. The new TV was excellent and the bed was extremely comfortable. The property was warm and comfortable and most pleasant and relaxing. We would recommend this property.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your many positive comments about your recent stay at High Raise - we appreciate it very much. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back to Grasmere one day. Kind Regards, Susan and Chris (owners) Property Owner

  • "Benefits of the property: Designated off road car parking space - although not the easiest to access Central location in Grasmere with plenty of shops/restaurants to choose from Close to multiple bus stops for those who don't wish to drive Concerns with this property: 33 steps & two combination lock doors from car park to property Shared laundry facility was old, dirty & I wouldn't advise using it Be aware of banging your head at every turn in the property - loft location Bathroom has no extract, so everywhere steams up unless the window is opened Shower is built in such a way as you cannot avoid water on the floor & this is now rotting the skirting board & floor The whole property was dirty, from a very sticky dining table to used tissues on the bedroom floor."

We never felt really comfortable. Only one bath/hand towel each for a 10 night stay - ridiculous No spare bedding for a 10 night stay No hand soaps by either sink - basic hygiene requirement Vacuum cleaner was smelly & unusable We wish we'd now stayed at the Wordsworth Hotel next door, which is where we ate every day. Photos of all of the above issues are available.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback after your recent stay. We have noted the points you made and apologise that the apartment was not to your satisfaction. Please note that additional linen is always available on request as well as an immediate ' new/ second clean' if standards have not been met. We have taken up this issue with Lakelovers Housekeeping. • "The property in my view was not the luxury accommodation I was expecting."

The kitchen area was tired, the settee was uncomfortable and you needed to be a IT expert to work the tv. There were no pictures on your website of the bathroom and we found the grouting on the tiles around the shower area to look dirty. The bedroom however was as described and the bed extremely comfortable. The location of the property was excellent .

Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback. We are very happy that you found the bed and bedroom very comfortable and the central location excellent. We apologise that you did not find the shower grout up to standard this week. We have instructed the cleaning staff to pay particular attention to this area in future. The Smart TV is new - but unfortunately the occasional guest does not clear their own 'programming' and this can create a little difficulty for the next guest. You are the first guest to find the settee uncomfortable - we shall look into this .Kind regards, Susan and Chris (owners ) Property Owner

  • "High Raise is a lovely attic apartment."

The beams and exposed brick walls make it very quaint and cosy, but still spacious. It is well furnished, clean and very well equipped. The bed is very comfortable and the complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits together with the bottle of Prosecco is a lovely touch. It is right in the centre of Grasmere and has lovely views of the countryside and hills. There are a couple of buses that run to Kendal and Keswick which enabled us to park up the car for the duration of our 3 night stay. We would recommend the Wordsworth hotel for an evening meal, but were very disappointed with our meal in the 1769 bar and restaurant at The Inn at Grasmere which was very overcooked. We are both in our 70s and managed the 2 sets of stairs leading to the apartment but anyone with mobility issues may find them a bit challenging. You will definitely need torchlight to operate the keypad for both door locks. I would definitely recommend this apartment.

Thank you so much for your lovely 100% feedback- it is very much appreciated. We would love to welcome you back to High Raise in the future. Very kind regards, Susan and Chris (owners) Property Owner

A perfect ‘find’ for me. The views of the surrounding fells from all windows were such a bonus. I didn’t use my car all week and was grateful for the reserved space. Grasmere is ideally situated with a variety of eating places and a good bus service. I have booked again for next year.

The apartment is beautiful and in a great spot. The parking space is very tight and we had issues with guests of other apartments parking in our space. I unfortunately left some items in the cottage and the lake lovers team haven’t been particularly helpful in assisting to find out if they have been handed in (which they should have been as I know I left them there). This issue is still unresolved (visit was 30/04/23 for 1 week) which is disappointing as the items have sentimental value.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are pleased that you found the apartment to be beautiful. We have been informed that there were no items left in the property, but we will ask our Housekeeping Team to check again. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Loved our stay at High Raise."

The location is excellent and we didn't need to use our car all week. The property itself is very comfortable with an amazing bed and relaxing living room. A couple of minor things could make it even better. Firstly black out blinds in the bedroom as it gets a lot of light in the morning. The kitchen was well equipped but really missed a pair of tongs. And lastly the plugs for the kitchen sink were missing so washing up had to be done in a washing up bowl. This is fine but the bowl was tiny and only fits a side plate. So a bigger bowl would be helpful.

We are delighted that you had a lovely stay at High Raise and made full use of its central location to explore the beautiful Lake District. Thank you for your great comments about the bed and we shall buy some kitchen tongs next time we go shopping. Very best wishes, Susan and Chris (owners) Property Owner

  • "The bed was so uncomfortable and that was the main downfall of the experience."

The mattress was really hard. This made our backs sore and but a downer on the holiday and atmosphere. Also the stiffness of our backs made it difficult to get in and out of the bath. The ceiling beams was another issue. The amount of times we banged our heads was ridiculous, in the kitchen and near the TV. The pictures in the ad was slightly misleading. A picture of a building out the window. We thought was the place we was staying at but it wasn't.. it was just a view from the apartment. We struggled to find the actual place itself. We had to phone up and ask for directions and description of the exact place we was staying. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need for our stay, for cooking and cleaning up after ourselves. The views were amazing though. Could hear birds singing in the morning. The overall layout was open and airy and flowed throughout.

Thank you for choosing to stay High Raise and taking the time to write a review. We have made arrangements for Lakelovers to improve their directions and photograph descriptions. The bed has a new "1000 pocket sprung, medium feel , zip and link mattress". Beds are very much a matter of personal preference but we shall supply a deeper mattress topper to hopefully suit the taste of all our guests going forward. • "High Raise was an idyllic and beautiful stay!"

I don’t think it’s quite advertised just how amazing the location is.. there are honestly mountain views from everyone window. We woke up to mountains, dined with the mountains and the window seat made that even more beautiful! The property was very clean on arrival with all the things we’d need to settle in like cleaning supplies. As well as this there was some very well received Prosecco in a ice bucket awaiting us! Grasmere is a perfect location with enough local shops and sites to enjoy with nearby walks but close links to Ambleside and Keswick for more to do! We even climbed up two of the peaks around Grasmere as we were so mesmerised by staring at them from our loft. It wasn’t our original plan but it was a brilliant idea. The only small thing that did disrupt our stay was the parking issue. I don’t think this is by any means the owners or Lake Lovers fault and they were helpful when contacted but it was slightly annoying. The parking space is clearly marked however sometimes we arrived to a car already parked there and as the space it quite small in the car park area it meant we had park elsewhere. However if you’re out most the day like us it shouldn’t be a huge issue! Just something to note for those that may wish to park there more often throughout the day. Overall we would definitely recommend and visit here again in the future. In fact, I’ve already recommended for my parents to book for their next holiday!!

Thank you very much for spending time to write your lovely review . We are delighted that you had a super holiday at High Raise in beautiful Grasmere. We were appalled to hear that some selfish person had been parking illegally in our designated parking space during your stay. We shall be looking into this situation urgently. Property Owner

It was clean, tidy, comfortable and nicely decorated. The mattress on the bed was on the firm side, which we were ok with, but some may find a tad hard! The bath was on the small side and the water pressure a bit low. The apartment was in a great position and , as there were so many excellent walks straight from it, we didn’t use the car at all. The car park was quite tight for a big car but manageable. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Thanks for the Prosecco on arrival!

Thankyou for your lovely and helpful feedback. The new pocket sprung mattress is of "medium tension" but, like you, we believe some guests may find it on the firm side . We are ordering a 3cm foam mattress "topper" to ensure a great night's sleep for all our guests. Property Owner

In general, the apartment is well furnished with many utilities available for a comfortable stay. Parking fine, albeit a bit tight sometimes. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and the apartment, and likely to do this again. However, for purpose of feedback, and to improve the quality and success of the stay, the most important thing is a comfortable good nights sleep. The bed mattress in the apartment is well beyond its best, and not supporting or comfortable at all, in fact it left me with a stiff back each morning. Worse, when I removed the bed linen prior to leaving, I found the mattress and pillows to be heavily stained, which made me feel a bit queezy to think I'd slept on it all week. I left a review in the guest book, only to find the same comments from previous guests, which disappointed me. For the cost of the apartment, this should be rectified asap otherwise it will attract negative comments. Would I stay again? yes absolutely - only if mattress replaced...

We thank our guests for their feedback. We sincerely apologise for the problems some of our early guests encountered just after reopening from covid lockdown. We are very sorry to hear of the cleaning issues and have flagged this up with the housekeeping team. A water bottle spillage, left a stain on the mattress. We apologise profusely for this. A new mattress was ordered immediately and, despite a short delay the new one is now in place. We hope we can welcome you back to beautiful Grasmere in the future. Property Owner

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
