  • "Lovely location and well equipped cottage."

Only slight complaint is the comfort of the lounge furniture but that hasn’t stopped us booking for next year!

  • "A lovely place to stay."

Well equipped, comfortable beds, fantastic location. The addition of another en suite is great We are going back in September. The only improvement we would suggest is to replace the sofa and chairs in the lounge, as they are not very comfortable.

  • "Very disappointed for the following reasons: Bedroom 3 is NOT a double bedroom, it is very small with a double bed shoehorned in, no where to hang any clothes, two small bedside cabinets and a small two drawer unit."

The window blinds are useless, I could read a book in my room at 4.30 in the morning! I had to hang a blanket over the window to get a decent nights sleep. However this is a common problem with holiday rentals everywhere I go. A pair of decent blackout curtains cost about £50 in Dunhelm. Very very creaky floors in the kitchen/lounge, when one person is up in the morning it wakes everyone else. The sofa must be the most uncomfortable piece of furniture I have ever sat on. The bedrooms are on the out side of the property, so very little natural light gets to the lounge/kitchen diner. very dull and gloomy throughout the day. On the plus side the beds were very comfortable, and the WiFi was very good. Also the location was excellent for access to Grasmere village. Whilst we shall be returning to the area, we will not be staying in this property!

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found the beds comfy and the wifi to be good. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed following your stay. We take all comments on board. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "The location is great which is the best thing about the house."

The kitchen is well equipped, making easy to prepare and cook meals. The house has not had a proper clean for quite some time, lots of cobwebs and spiders in the property. The water pressure for the showers is very low which is a shame as the bathrooms are pretty decent. The double beds are strangely small, 2 normal sized adults have very little space. The sofas are not very comfortable and the TV is rubbish. This could be a great property if some money and TLC were spent on it.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues that you experienced with the cleanliness of the property, had we been made aware during your stay, we would have attended to resolve. We take all comments on board. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

!.. it was very clean and had everything we needed for our weekend.. my only criticism ( and it’s a personal preference)… is that all the rooms are double beds when you could put a king size in at least one of the rooms…

Conveniently situated to feel private yet within very short distance of shops, eateries and beautiful walks. We did have fun and games though, with more than one person at a time trying to use the galley kitchen! Otherwise, all great. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "Great location in Grasmere, being able to walk everywhere or catch the bus was a big bonus."

Cottage has everything you need, but there are a few things that could be improved. Firstly, despite sleeping six people and having three showers, only one shower can be in use at any one time. There's not enough water pressure for more than one to be used. Secondly, the couch needs to be changed - very uncomfortable now and well past its end of life! Also, the beds are very short, not full size, so if you are over about 5'5" you will be getting cold feet! The cottage could also do with a bigger TV. I wouldn't normally complain about this, but again, for six people it isn't big enough for everyone to sit down and watch at the same time. But overall it is a great base to stay in, whether winter or summer.

Thank you for your comments, it is nice to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We take all comments on board. We do find that sofas and beds are down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

We found the location, and everything about the cottage really great for a group of 6 adults. A couple of larger saucepans would be useful but not a major issue. We would certainly recommend it to others and would love to return for another stay.

however the mattresses were too hard. Hard to get a comfortable sleep but as 75 plus we need a give in them. The chesterfield in lounge is again uncomfortable. The dining table is impossible to sit at as you cannot get legs under table. Property is central and ideal for getting to most places

  • "Pretty cottage in an excellent location right in centre of Grasmere yet secluded and very quiet."

The cottage is one of 4 nestled together with similar names. The approach lane is VERY narrow (our Tesco delivery couldn’t get to us so we had to drive out to main road by the Co-op to collect). The cottage was spotlessly clean, although all 3 of the shower drains were blocked and overflowing- full of months worth of gunge. The dishwasher was broken when we arrived but was speedily repaired. Small niggles. No books or maps as the cottage info pack stated. However our neighbours in the studio did have some! No parasol for outside table (weather was amazing!) Again neighbours on both sides were sat out with brollies while we didn’t have any shade. Only a shaver point in one bathroom. For 3 couples that could be tricky. The entrance to Rowan studio driveway is so narrow it resulted in their car parking beside our outside dining area. Again probably not a problem had the weather not been so great. Sadly the tv is not able to stream any programmes which would have been better for evening viewing. Finally if you are cooking here beware that the kitchen is in effect 2 rooms. The fridge and dishwasher are away from the main kitchen so a lot of fiddly carrying of dishes and food between rooms is involved. This cottage is not cheap - I think it’s reasonable to expect the petty things listed. The booking system and emailing of holiday information was excellent.

Thank you very much for your comments Mr Preston and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Customer feedback is very important to help us continually improve our standards. We are sorry to hear about all the issues you encountered at the cottage, unfortunately we weren't aware of any of the issues you had as we could have resolved them to make your stay more comfortable. Your comments have been forwarded to the Lakelovers housekeeping team to look into your concerns regarding cleanliness etc. once again if we had known we could have helped with your concerns. We have passed your comments onto the owner, who has advised they haven't encountered any problems before with access to the property for food delivery. They will look into the missing items that you have mentioned as everything should be there in place at the property as normal. Once again Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope the above doesn't deter you from booking the cottage again. Property Owner

    Cottage in a lovely spot.

Thank you for your feedback regarding Rowan Cottage. We're glad to hear you had a lovely week but disappointed to hear you found the beds hard. We understand every guest has different levels of comfort and preferences so unfortunate that this was too hard for you and decreased the comfort of your stay. We hope the positives outweighed this and that we can still welcome you back to the Lakes in the future. Property Owner

  • "Enjoyed our 4 night stay in a lovely central cottage in middle of Grasmere."

Two of the three beds were so hard we could not sleep in them and also we felt the sofa in lounge really needs replacing. While it is a lovely red leather Chesterfield sofa it has been well used and again very uncomfortable for us oldies after a long walk. Delightful cottage apart from these two negatives.

Thank you for your feedback regarding Rowan Cottage. We're glad to hear you had a lovely week but disappointed to hear that two of the three beds were hard. We understand every guests bed preference is different and it is hard to cater this in self catering. We have had some very positive comments about the comfort too so we are sorry to hear it was not your comfort level. About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
