"Lovely property, cosy, clean, very comfortable and location was fantastic."
Only one slight problem with the garden and gates not being completely secure for our dogs who could get underneath the gate and out onto the road. Also people have access to come through the garden from time to time which meant a mad dash to get the dogs if anyone came. This didn't spoil the holiday at all but would have been nice to know this in advance. Would definitely go back as loved it.

The back door / fire escape door leaked in heavy rains. Could use some cupboards in the Kitchen for traveller staying a week (as we did) to put our groceries. A brighter light bulb in the laundry room could be helpful. A shame that neither of the Pubs served food while we were there - behind your control, I realize...but it was disappointing. These are small things - great proximity to the Wall for walking and a very happy week.

"First impressions are the cottage is done to a high standard but in need of some TLC."
I always judge a place by how good a sleep you get and unfortunately the beds were so uncomfortable. Maybe a mattress upgrade would fix this. There was also a funny smell in the back bedroom. The garden is nice and big and might be dog friendly for larger dogs that cannot get through the large gaps in the gates but not for smaller dogs.
Although not a fault of the property owners but our stay was not a relaxing one due to work being done on the property adjacent with a great big wagon being parked in front of the living room windows for most of the time and work starting as early as 4am. Hammering and sawing woke me up several times.
Was looking forward to getting home just for a good nights sleep.

The downside for us was a noisy party who stayed at the Dale Manor House. These two properties are part of a terraced block. They all have separate gardens and a larger communal garden for all properties to share which runs along the bottom of these separate gardens. The large party were very noisy (adults and children). They moved benches so they were directly at the bottom of our garden on the other side of a low wall. They had a dog off lead when all signs clearly stated to be on a lead. We were unable to enjoy our garden due to the noise and the lack of privacy and unable to let the dogs out as they would if jumped to wall to play with the off lead dog in the communal garden area. We payed a lot of money for our relaxing week away and lost at least two days due to the above.

We found the cottage fabulous for entertaining as Allendale used to be hour home town and of course folks kept dropping by - all very impressed by the quality of the furnishings, décor and were the best equipped self-catering places we have every stayed in (and I used to own a 5 star time share) so I am used to quality but these cottages are 'top notch' and I cannot recommend them too much - we dearly would love to rent them again in the future if it is possible.
