  • "Our second stay here with our family, including 4 grandchildren, and it is a really lovely house to stay in for a Lakes holiday."

Plenty of equipment, large kitchen, toys, games, entertainment consoles and hot tub. Even in October it was a treat to be able to use it as the weather was very kind to us! Beautifully clean, comfortable beds and complimentary hamper and toiletries. Plus a welcome vase of flowers. Only minus was the noisy road sweeper in the car park at 6 in the morning! Lovely to hear the owls and see the bats on Halloween. Plenty of easy walks from the house too. We were very thankful to be allowed to use an outside plug to slow charge our car.

  • "Fabulous place to stay."

Very well stocked and plenty of space for everyone. Beautifully maintained property. We aim to have our family holiday here again.

  • "The best house we have ever stayed in in the Lakes."

There was every thing we needed and more. The welcome hamper was great and a real treat. Sitting in the hot tub watching the planes fly overhead was brilliant. Even though we were in Ambleside, the house was so private and quiet. Ambleside has so many great restaurants and shops we didn’t need to go far. There are so many walks from our door we didn’t really need to use the car much. (If you want something different go to Yew Tree farm for the Herdwick experience which was fantastic).

  • "All that were on the Holiday had a brilliant time."

The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The garden and hot tub were awesome and coupled with the excellent weather, our trip could not have been more perfect. Close to the centre of Ambleside so we had all the amenities on our doorstep. I would highly recommend this property for a memorable trip to the outstanding Lake District.

  • "Everything was top class: the comfort of ALL the beds, the hot tub, the dining space, the comfort of the living room and all the kitchen equipment."

The dishwasher is the best I've ever used. The kitchen had EVERYTHING you could possibly need. The only thing that I couldn't find was a seive to drain my pasta (I used a vegetable steaming pan) but I discovered many seives in the cupboard by the sink on the last day! We hope to come back sometime but getting the 10 of us together was the tricky bit (only 9 of us made it this time). One suggestion: You have the most fabulously detailed information about everything in the house (I read it all throughout the week) but I could have done with a quick, idiot's guide for using things like the oven, TV, dishwasher etc. Also, the light over the dining room door to the patio: We couldn't find a switch anywhere but thought the decking steps could have been quite dangerous without one (We had our own lamp with us but others might not). We were all very impressed that a house of this calibre was available to hire for holidays. Thank you so much for sharing what really is a luxurious home from home.

  • "This was another great family week at Bracken Howe in glorious Ambleside and we feel it is now our second home."

The house is grandly spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Cold sunny days and we still made good use of the hot tub every day.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside with its numerous shops makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips, and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and the lakeside at Waterhead with parkland offering lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach. A walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre. Ambleside has plenty of restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes from great fish & chips to its two Michelin Star restaurants and all tastes in between are catered for.
