"We loved the house and found it very well equipped and comfortable for us all, including two small children."
The possibility of a stair gate could be helpful. The location of a short if steep walk into Ambleside was ideal and plenty of lovely parks nearby with play areas for the little ones. An enjoyable time was had by all !

"Lovely cottage with character and charm."
Huge kitchen, comfy beds and good showers. Very handy for walking into the centre of Ambleside. We have a big car, and manoeuvering it up the hill and into the chapel entrance was interesting, but doable. Quiet location, though one daughter found the early birds in the hedge outside rather loud! A couple of downsides - no recycling boxes and no visitor recycling facilities locally, so we ended up taking 2 bags of recycling home, which was annoying. Also, the waste calendar was 3 years out of date. There was no obvious way of contacting the owner for information. Likewise, many of the tourist leaflets were from 2018 - they could really do with renewing. Lastly, we'd have appreciated tea and coffee available on arrival.

"We had a great time at the cottage."
The location was great and we managed with the parking. The accommodation was lovely and clean and we had everything we needed. Would love to go back in the summer when it's not raining as much

"Lovely stay in Ambleside at Candleberry Cottage."
Rooms were lovely and had all the amenities that we needed, including washer/dryer for wet hiking clothes. The cottage was well located within easy walking distance of everything in Ambleside so no need to take out your car for an evening in the pub. Would definitely stay here again.

"We had a lovely family stay more than enough space in the house for 5 adults and 2 children under 5."
The house was just as described and beautifully clean. Very well located for everything as long as you don't mind the hill back up. If you have more than one car you can get a 7 day pass getting you in lots of different car parks for only £40. The boot and coat rack by the door was great for all our walking gear at the end of the day. The only thing that I would change is the window dressing in the top floor room. It's very thin letting all the light in in the morning leading to some very early waking. Everything else was lovely.

"Nice place to stay."
Very compleet interior. Walking distance to the shops in the village. Numerous beautiful walking trails nearby.

"Lovely cottage, in a great location!"
Had a wonderful stay here, perfectly clean and tidy on arrival and the amenities were spot on. The property is really close to Ambleside town center and within walking distance of pubs/restaurants. Also, the onsite parking is ideal, and due to the location of the allocated space we were able to fit two small cars end to end. The only slight niggle was the temperature in the loft bedroom which in June was too warm to sleep comfortably for me. Would definitely stay here again as a group!

"The property was clean on arrival."
The location was very pleasant with lovely views from the garden. We were told there was only parking for 1 car but in actual fact there was space for 2. The kitchen and living room windows didn’t provide much privacy as other tenants were walking past frequently. The beds that slept 2 people were small. The stairs and floorboards creaked, particularly in the night - so children were disturbed and didn’t sleep well. The toilet in the main bathroom became blocked. I phoned the number provided but it was only manned in office hours. I tried the emergency out of his number but received no response, which meant the main bathroom was out of use for the last evening/morning and everyone had to use the en suite. This was obviously very inconvenient both for the people in the master bedroom and also the other people staying in the other bedrooms. The smell was also very unpleasant. We were unable to find instructions of what to do with being/towels etc on departure. We prefer to know the expectations of the company.

"Loved our stay at Candleberry Cottage and it was a perfect size for our party of 7."
The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, and was perfectly located near the centre of town. We would definitely return!
-
"Property as described, and perfect for the 5 of us."
Clean and tidy, with a spacious and well equipped kitchen. Only negative was the parking, with just one (tight) space but this was made clear in the property description, so no complaints.

"This is our third visit to this property and we weren't disappointed."
The property was clean and well stocked with everything you would need to cook. The lounge is really cosy and having a bath in the property is very welcome when you've been walking all day. We will definitely be booking again!

"Great location and confort"

"Very Comfortable Stay with Parking Access and Building Work issues: The cottage was lovely, extremely comfortable and well-equipped."
Its location is excellent and only a very short walk down steep narrow roads into the centre of town. We reported two maintenance issues found on arrival as soon as we could to help Lakelovers get them sorted for future bookings. The spacious kitchen and living room were quite dark (September), so a good reading lamp would be great in the living room. The awkward parking space was compounded by tradesmen's vans needing moved to let us out. This was because the very pleasant owner of the immediately adjacent St Anne's Court cottage, also managed by Lakelovers, was visiting with others to do external maintenance work throughout our five-night stay. Unfortunately, this meant we could not open our door to the communal gardens and sit outside. Car access to the communal entrance gates was difficult. This was partly due to a large white van parked alongside other vehicles, but jutting out and blocking the easier of the two steep tracks up to the gates. Overall, a great short break, especially if you don't intend to use your own car to get out and about.

"Great property."
We were moved here last minute after arriving at our original property to find it shabby, smelly and not as the listing described. Having to move properties made for a stressful evening of phone calls and driving around but all staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful and it worked out well in the end.

"Great holiday, Ambleside is a terrific town, this holiday cottage is very very good."
What more can I say.

"The house is exactly as advertised and in a great location."
The kitchen is a great size and well equipped but should be lit better. The first floor bedrooms are lovely and can’t be faulted. We were on the second floor which is compromised because of the nature of the building so only has a little roof window and going down the winding narrow stairs to the toilet in the night can be an exciting journey without a torch or the light of your phone! It would be lovely if there was a toilet and wash basin up there but we understood this when we booked of course. For a house that sleeps 7 I would have expected matching crockery and glassware but that is not the case and while there’s lots of stuff, you have to mix and match. The bathrooms are nicely presented and the showers are terrific. A very pleasant stay thank you.

"Booked a last minute stay at this cottage."
The owners had put up the Christmas decorations which was a nice touch. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you might need. Heating was already turned on and we had the facility to increase the temperature if we needed to. Showers were good and bonus with the en-suite. Beds were a little uncomfortable and took a couple of nights to get to get used to. Parking was very tight as there is a chain between the the 2 parking space which made it a little difficult to turn around especially if you have a bigger car. All in all though, a nice find.

"NOVEMBER 21 UPDATE - I have just been to this cottage for a week and provide the following 100% factual information which I hope assists people:- REFERBISHMENT - The cottage has just been refurbished, both bathrooms have been completely re done and there is now no problem with the water pressure, all the carpets are new as in much of the furniture & the new pictures on the web truly represent the place."
LOCATION - Quiet location literally 5 mins from all the shops and restaurants in Ambleside, one allocated parking place. ACCESSiBILITY - Every step from the centre of Ambleside to the front door is up hill, both toilets are on the first floor and the stairs from the first to second floor are steep & narrow so this might not be the place for anyone with mobility issues.

"The cottage is in a fantastic location only a few mins walk from the centre of Ambleside."
The cottage is spacious and kitchen and bedrooms are good. The bathrooms need to be updated and the owner is aware of this and believe they are doing this shortly.
Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback following your stay at Candleberry Cottage. Since receiving your feedback the property owners have carried out a full renovation of the cottage, including both bathrooms which have been renovated with new fixtures and fittings (New bath, showers, toilets, and basins) and decor (completely re-tiled). The cottage has been fully redecorated with new furniture and fittings and flooring throughout and once the new photos of the property have been posted to the Lakelovers website next week these changes can be seen. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future. Property Owner

"Generally the property is ok, a little dated and maybe could do with redecorating."
However, both bathrooms are not in a good condition and in desperate need of a refurbishment. Particularly the en-suite where the shower was useless, it also had a constant bad smell and some of woodwork is beginning to rot. On the plus side the location is fantastic, close to all the amenities of Ambleside.

"Information in email incorrect regarding key collection - needs updating as it is incorrect On a positive, the house is largeand spacious, and is in a lovely area."
However it needs a deep clean There is dirt and dust in all corners of the house, cobwebs on kitchen window and light fittings throughout the house. Mould in bathroom. En-suite unusable due to smell of drains and the shower is either freezing cold or burning hot. The taps move when you try to turn them on. Main bathroom - flush on toilet kept not working - we had fix ourselves each time just so it would flush. Main bathroom is old and rundown with mold and dirt in corners of bath/shower. Springs have gone in the sofas so you sink when you sit down making it very uncomfortable. The carpets are dirty and worn in the lounge. In the kitchen the random mix of plates, cutlery, pots and pans need replacing or proper cleaning, they smell greasy as though they haven’t been washed properly. The shared garden would of been nice had it been usable, however as there has been no maintenance of the area for sometime, grass needs cutting, shrubs need trimming as they growing in to the house through the lounge doors, we couldn’t sit out there. In general it feels like whoever owns the property is only interested in making money and not giving customers a nice experience. For the money we paid this was very disappointing.

"The house was ok but the photos were clearly taken quite a while ago and little effort has been put on to maintenance."
The bathrooms, particularly the en suite, we're shabby and the en suite shower a waste of time it was so bad. The kitchen was good and well stocked with ample plates and utensils etc. Generally, the house is fine and in a great location, a short but steep walk away from town. Worth noting that the outside areas are now an overgrown cemetery rather than what looks like nice lawns in the photos. Key collection and return from the Windermere town centre office is s bit a pain. Don't know why they couldn't put a key safe at the house?

"It’s tired and needed cleaning when we arrived, please see reference number COR-220411-CF"
-
"The property looked amazing in the photos but on entering it’s dark and needs updating, it all just looks a bit tired and tatty - even the welcome folder was ripped and torn."
However, the cottage was clean and comfortable. Would be useful to know in advance that each cottage has a numbered parking space as the numbers are not easy to see and it was a free for all each day.
-
"Overall very happy with the cottage but found a couple of cobwebs floating in a corner of the lounge."
Also not sure who may be responsible for tending around the gardens but it was overgrown and made sitting outside a little uncomfortable. Aside from this the cottage was very clean and comfortable.
-
"The accommodation was perfect for our holiday."
It had everything we needed and was lovely and warm. The beds are comfortable, everywhere is clean and the kitchen is well supplied so it is easy to make meals. We would definitely stay here again.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.
