  • "We arrived on Monday afternoon to find a musty / damp smell in the cottage."

During the evening it got chilly but we found no information to turn the heating on! Yes you have a nice new combi boiler its a pity that you didn't upgrade the heating controls at the same time. the time clock next the fuse board is broken and must be 30yrs old there is no room stat or any simple override switch. we rang the number given 4 times to talk to somebody but got just music. It could have been a lovely stay but with ice cold bathroom damp towels & having to ware a fleece inside to keep warm it wasn't

  • "Ideal for 1 - 2 guests (and dog) to explore the Lake District by bus, car or on foot, this compact and comfortable slate house sits in a gated, shrub-edged lawned garden behind the Lake Road shops."

Availability of parking nearby with the business pass can vary. Shame it's only available through Sykes, who I won't be using again.

  • "This property is situated in the centre of Ambleside with all its lovely shops, pubs and restaurants."

Once we located the cottage and parked up in the car path directly behind we didn’t need to use the car again for our stay as there are plenty of circular walks from the town or ones where it’s easy to get a bus back from. The location finder mentions a pub- The Churchill- this has changed hands and is now the Temperance Inn. The cottage has plenty of facilities to make your stay comfortable, though there was a shortage of saucepans- one pan and 3x lids! So we adapted our recipes. There’s a great Deli and butcher in town so you can dine really well from the cottage. The garden was a Godsend being secure for our inquisitive cocker spaniel making the stay a very relaxing break.

  • "The entrance to the property is very unattractive."

Building works next door don’t help. We felt the cottage needed some TLC. However the garden is a bonus and the position is good for all local amenities.

  • "Lovely little cottage comfortable stay just needs a little tlc in places warm enough easy to find handy enough for shops restaurants pubs and buses alright for short stays cleaner needs to check coffee sugar jars coffee about an inch thick stuck inside needing washed out fitting for shower head needs replaced shower head keeps falling down so water going against wall instead of over top of you the parking permit was out of date I rang the no given was told it would be ok to park as there was a problem with the council and it would be in the post but I was not risking paying £25 a day fine so I put a ticket on for £21."

40 for 3 days then paid an extra day as I read a review of lady whom was in before me and she had 2 parking fines looking round in the car park every other car seemed to have the new permit

  • "Lovely place to stay everything within walking distance, ideal garden for our dog Downside, uncomfortable 2 seater settee and a very uncomfortable little chair so couldn't get comfortable after a long days walk Asked to strip bedding, which was a first upon doing that discovered 2 stains on matress cover Got a parking fine for £25 on 15th March and another one £25 on 17th March both times displaying the permit that we were told to Overall enjoyed the stay but £50 down when we didn't expect it."

  • "Clover cottage is a beautiful little cottage set right in the heart of ambleside Town center."

.set away just off the main road, but with its own private garden so you don't feel as though you are in the town center.it has everything you need facilities wise, good strong WiFi signal.. maybe needs a little tlc here and there.but thats nick picking..perfect for a couple or 2 adults..would definitely recommend clover cottage and will definitely stop here again.had a fantastic stay..

  • "This lovely cottage is tucked away behind the main street houses, so very central (the bus stop is only 2 minutes away) but with total privacy even in the garden."

And it is very quiet in the night. Inside you find a cosy little sitting room with a good TV set providing Netflix. Because of the bushes outside and tiny windows on this side the room does not get much light but is nicely lit by proper lamps. The kitchen is well equipped. Upstairs is the bed room with a very comfortable bed. There is one large blanket for the double bed. The bathroom is very nice, with tub and shower. The water is steady and hot. Fresh towels were provided although not mentioned in the offer. The heater worked quickly with a timer and on demand. The communication with the owners was very nice, too. I enjoyed my stay very much. I would love to come again.

  • "After the initial mix up with where to pick up our keys up from due to several conflicting EMails then been given the wrong key and after several phone calls we eventually got in the cottage."

The cottage is very quaint you access it from the road down some steep steps it’s location is great easy to walk to shops , pubs etc. We loved our enclosed garden excellent for our dog and safe. The cottage is just as described, it was clean and had a updated bathroom, ideal for our 3 day stay. Our only criticism is it’s cold as it doesn’t get much light but there is an electric fire and once the heating is on it warms up quickly. The furniture needs updating but we had a loverly welcome letter from the new owners explaining that they are in the process of updating in the coming weeks . I would definitely recommend Clover cottage and would visit again.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
