  • "Excellent very clean property, only issues we had for our Christmas week stay no gas fire, reported to sykes on our first day, found heater outside property the next day ,we had not left the property and nobody had knocked on the door."

We feel for a winter stay in a cottage you need a fire of some sort as a focal point especially at Christmas,as the fire place made the room a dark area.Hard mattress in main bedroom not for us causing backache.

The property

A spacious and comfortable detached stone built house, c1875, in an elevated position and ideally located only a short walk up the hill from the village centre, Gale Mews will offer up to five guests a fine comfortable base for their Lakeland holiday at any time of the year.

There are extensive views across the village rooftops to the fells beyond and a lovely landscaped garden with a large enclosed terrace with outdoor furniture where you can relax on sunny days.

A second paved patio area at the bottom of the garden boasts a large wooden arbour for those early evening sundowners. Walks from the door will keep the most active members of your party happy whilst the village centre boasts a wide choice of local shops, pubs and restaurants for all your day to day needs.

Ambleside has a five-screened cinema showing all the latest films, a climbing wall, a recreation ground with bowls, boule, crazy golf, putting and tennis, and there are lake cruises on Lake Windermere all year round. Accommodation:The entrance hall with boot-store and downstairs cloakroom with wc and basin leads via twin doors to an impressive fully fitted designer kitchen/breakfast room with views over the terrace and fells beyond from the bay windowed seating area.

A wall-mounted flat screen TV with integrated DVD provides a second media centre.

A door opens from the breakfast room into the spacious sitting room with a further bay window with views, a woodburner-effect gas fire and leather suite.

A wall-mounted, flat-screen, internet linked TV with HDMI connected DVD player and the mini-hi-fi provide entertainment when required.

Another door allows direct access to the terrace via a vestibule area. Stairs from the sitting room lead to the first floor landing and hence to three good bedrooms all with fell views – the master has a king-sized double bed, fitted wardrobes/cupboards and en-suite shower room with power shower, basin, wc and heated towel rail; in addition there is one twin and one single bedroom with its feature cabin style bed (higher than a standard single).

A large family bathroom has a bath, a separate large shower cubicle, basin, wc and heated towel rail. Gale Mews has a light and sunny atmosphere with good views from all the main windows. Outside: Most attractive, enclosed, south-west facing garden with large terrace and steps down to the lawn and separate patio area.

The lawn and lower garden can also be accessed by a path from the main driveway.

Patio dining table with all-weather self standing parasol

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
