  • "Excellent week away."

Great location, and the cottage was lovely. It had everything that we needed. Parking pass for outside was also great. Nothing to fault about the cottage, the owners have done an excellent job and thought of anything.

This is our 5th holiday in the Lakes using Lakelovers, and our favourite cottage to date. Beautifully presented, extremely clean and in a great spot for local amenities. Thanks to the hosts for all the food & leisure recommendations listed. We will be back!

The cottage was ultra clean, homely and extremely well equipped. We loved its quiet location, yet an easy stroll into Ambleside centre. There are also plenty of interesting walks from the house.

It was spotlessly clean, cozy, comfortable and very well equipped. It’s in a perfect location in a quiet part of Ambleside with shops, pubs, cinema and restaurants right on the doorstep and easy access to lots of lovely walks. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back when we next visit the Lakes.

  • "What a wonderful week at Herdwick Cottage."

Notwithstanding the winter weather, the cottage was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We must praise and thank the owners for their kindness, when our car refused to start due to the bad weather, and they allowed us to remain in the cottage for several hours until the breakdown company arrived. We were so grateful, and will most definitely return. The cottage is so convenient, with a level walk into town only minutes. Any future visitors will not be diss appointed. Thank you so much for our stay. Keith&Margaret

You are so welcome and thank you for staying with us. I hope your journey home was uneventful after the delay. Best wishes, Sarah and Richard Property Owner

  • "This is a well presented and equipped cottage with everything needed for a comfortable stay."

The location could not be more perfect for exploring Ambleside and it was always easy to find a parking spot either right outside or just around the corner. The owners have really thought of everything, including the board games and the games consoles which kept the children entertained after a day hiking or on wet days. We would definitely return to this property.

Thank you so much for your kind comments - yes, we like the basement as well on a rainy day! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope we can welcome you again soon. Best wishes, Sarah and Richard Property Owner

  • "We previously stayed here last year and booked to return straight away as it was perfect for us, however this trip we were slightly disappointed because the internet connection was awful."

With 2 of the 3 of having to do some work while we were here we ended up having to go to a local cafe as the internet kept dropping out. Also it meant that none of the TV additional channels worked.

We were so glad that you returned to stay at Herdwick Cottage. I'm really sorry to hear that the internet was not working properly. We usually have a 'superfast' and very reliable service for the area. I've investigated and we found a fault with the aerial at the front of the house and it has been replaced, and so I do hope that if you return you can enjoy a reliable connection again - many thanks for your feedback. Many thanks, Sarah and Richard Property Owner

  • "We arrived to a cleanly presented home to stay for the week."

All the little extras in the kitchen and bathrooms were so appreciated. The beds are so comfy and the bedrooms were lovely and spacious. The cottage is so close to everything in the town but not noisy, perfect for local hikes and walks in the area. This was our third visit to Ambleside and our first visit staying in Herdwick Cottage. We’ve enjoyed it so much we have booked our return visit in 2024!

Thank you so much for your feedback and we're looking forward to seeing you in 2024! Best wishes, Sarah and Richard Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and supplied with loads of little extras."

It was convenient for the town centre and walking distance to some great restaurants. Due to the weather we were outside all week. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the items left at our disposal. We’ve always had to bring shampoo’s, cleaning products, cloths, t-towels and so many other things that it was a real home from home. Parking was easy with the permit and one car was left in the nearby car park for the week (£38). We were happy to use the local bus service, if we weren’t walking. Great place, easy to book and would definitely be back. (That’s a first as well). We just didn’t have enough time to see everything! Thanks for having us.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are so glad that you enjoyed everything the property and the area have to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Lakelovers Owner Relations Property Owner

Really well Cared for and well thought out by the owners with nice little touches. Everything we needed was there and more. This is a great location for the town, restaurants and amenities of Ambleside. We loved being so close. The parking options were good and we always managed to park near the cottage. Great access to the amazing surrounding area for walks and attractions.

The parking permit allowed us to leave our car parked up for the week as we explored the lakes on foot and bus. The bedrooms are well sized and perfect for a family of four as we were. The house was very clean, modernised with new bathrooms, decor and furniture. Faultless.

  • "Really lovely and comfortable cottage to stay at, very well equipped kitchen, had everything you could possibly want and more, you have thought of everything, bedrooms were so pretty and beds so comfortable, had best sleep ever, all furnishings of very good quality, great base to stay for pubs restaurants and shops and for walking from if you’re a walker, there was a couple of things that need a little attention, the shower head kept slipping out of the holder and falling to the floor in the bathroom with the bath in it and also the shower door when opening would swing back and into door frame, maybe a rubber door stop on door frame would help to cushion the glass, saying all that I would definitely recommend my family and friends to rent your cottage, I am already looking to see if I can come back later on in the year, for me it was a perfect place to stay."

Thank you so much for your kind comments and we're so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We have replaced the shower holder and addressed the shower door swinging open - many thanks for your feedback. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
