"We loved our stay in this beautiful cottage."
It was wonderfully clean, beautifully decorated and where it was situated was so close to the town. We would definitely stay again. Thank you. I think the central heating needs bleeding, as there was a lot of knocking when the boiler started up. (This was reduced when we turned on the radiator in the second bedroom) It didn’t spoil our stay though.

"The property was clean tidy and marvellous."
The only difficulty we faced was with internet. It was very patchy, and often during stay we were unable to use it. My first holiday with Sykes was filled with a loaf of bread, eggs, milk and a bottle of wine etc as welcome kit. Of late all this things are being removed. Probably cost of living crisis.

"Ambleside has good amenities and well situated."
Slightly smaller and darker accommodation than expected, perhaps our wishful thinking. The house is end terrace adjacent at rear to parking for a garage business and a workshop style semi-derelict lean-to, which is not clear from pictures in listing, though not a problem. The top floor bedroom ceiling is challenging for taller people. Living room sofas feel tired. Oven in kitchen was not clean and impossible to get clean. Oven does not work to temperature and burns food. Controls on oven not visible. Taps are quirky and take some getting used to. Bathroom basin cold tap loose. Bathroom would benefit from extractor fan. Hard to dry and hang coats and clothes in wet weather. Parking permit useful. Washing machine accessible behind a removable panel in the kitchen, works well. Fridge freezer, wifi and TV reliable and good. Hot water and heating good. Shower perhaps too powerful. With four of us, an extra toilet would have been handy (our lookout, ditto no dishwasher). We swept courtyard when we arrived, and vacuumed the house. Steps down to house are getting overgrown with vegetation at top; slippery in wet. One of the legs nearest the door of the double bed was loose and reinserted into its socket, but could come adrift. Lakelovers / Heart of the Lakes agency were helpful with fresh towels after a week. The house is very quiet considering you are surrounded by other houses more or less in the centre of town. We attended before school holidays started.

Doors which dident close broken catch, door wouldn’t open or close over carpet broken catch scratched my sisters arm and bled, towel rail kept dropping off, Indications in oven and hob unreadable Little things but makes a difference

"It was adequate and well located but could really do with some modernisation."
It smelt musty and unloved. The hot and cold taps were all differently screwed which was somewhat confusing. There were no spares of things like toilet paper and towels, and a week is a long time for 4 people. I was surprised there were absolutely no grocery provisions in the kitchen. Not even foil or cling film. But we did appreciate the washing up liquid, although very weird bowl to wash up in. The steps down to the cottage are extremely dangerous when wet. I was surprised there wasn’t any form of layer on them to prevent slipping in the rain. I think this needs urgent attention. But overall, the location saved the day.

"Great location in terms of proximity to the centre of Ambleside."
Clean and comfortable but needs updating. Plastic flowers and strange ornaments were not good and downstairs which is quite small - felt a bit dark and dingy partly due to dark brown carpets and dark furniture. Ornaments and pictures need removing/ replacing - just needs a complete refresh - would make a world of difference

"This cottage is a little gem, great location and comfortable, this was our second stay here and would and probably will stay again."

It was an amazing break and get away in a beautiful location we've always loved, the cottage itself was very unique with it's layout different from other holiday homes we've stayed in the past, it felt cozy and the facilities where great, outstanding shower, 3 stories high with great bedrooms and it was still spacious and also a 1 minute walk to and from the town center I would definitely recommend to anyone :)

"We have visited Hideaway Cottage many times and will do so again."
A friend joined us this time round and it was good to get her views on it - basically she loved it, thought it the perfect 'cottage' escape and so wonderfully located for town and indeed the hills. What is not to like. Shame the small but useful 'welcome box' seems to have been dropped by Heart of the Lakes, but really a minor comment. Already looking forward to re-booking :)

"We really enjoyed our stay, thanks for the last minute booking."
Nice quiet location good for walking but also close to shops, comfortable bed and lovely power shower

"We have used this property before and find it ideal for us as a couple."
Parking isn't really a problem once you've unloaded and its location is perfect for town. The only area for improvement is that the bedroom floor slopes down to the head of the bed - to level it out requires raising the bedhead or lowering the foot by a few inches. And, a 13.5 Tog duvet - for September! Really?

"We enjoyed our stay in Hideaway Cottage which is very convenient for access to the centre of Ambleside."
The property could probably do with an update and is perhaps not quite up to the standards we have now come to expect. We had a problem initially finding the property which is down a narrow, slightly overgrown path off a small lane, this could be an issue for guests arriving after dark. Perhaps clearer instructions with a sketch / map may help. We did not use the upstairs bedroom, however, access up the tightly turning stairs and under a low ceiling could be an issue for some. I think this should be clearly highlighted to future guests. The parking permit giving free parking in the Rydal Road car park was much appreciated as we could not find a suitable space on the lane near the cottage.

"Lovely cottage."
Very easy to find and is in a great central location whilst still being very quiet. Noticed a small issue when we arrived. Contacted Heart of the Lakes and it was repaired within 40 mins! Very happy with both the cottage and service from Heart of the Lakes

"My son and I stayed at Hideaway Cottage for 4 nights."
The location is perfect and convenient for everything Ambleside has to offer. Beds were really comfortable and the cottage had all the equipment we needed for a lovely stay. We would definitely stay again.

Shocking instructions to find the cottage unloading parking is terrible Very basic tools in kitchen Bedrooms were nice The settees are dated and worn No little welcome treats Not impressed won’t be staying again
I’m so sorry to hear you had difficulty with the directions and unloading. I have checked the Heart of the Lakes directions and couldn’t fault them, however it may be that Map apps may struggle with some Ambleside addresses. Hideaway is excellently managed by HOL, however as the owner, I do visit regularly to check that everything is ok and am always able to stop by the cottage to unload and often to park close by as well. To make sure that guests aren’t inconvenienced though, I do provide a parking pass for the carpark close by which can also be used for other carparks. Hideaway is in a great spot tucked away in a quiet corner but so close to the centre of Ambleside and I’m delighted that many guests have enjoyed their stay and I hope to welcome many others to enjoy their holiday at Hideaway Cottage. "This was a last minute booking and it served our needs."
It was owned by a large company, so the pennys were counted. No washing up liquid, one loo roll etc. Not the usual niceties you get on a privately owned place. Sykes were very good
-
"This cottage is in a perfect location if you enjoy a combination of walking, shopping and pub going."
Very clean and comfortable. Access to the twin bedroom was a bit tight but fine for people with no mobility issues. We normally managed to park near the cottage, but the car park pass was useful too. It was very quiet throughout both day and night. Although the steps down to the property were very dark a torch was provided. Highly recommend for people who want to be based in Ambleside.

"Lovely well equipped cottage, great location in Ambleside for shops and restaurants."
Parking permit was a great bonus as parking near property varied in availability and accessibility. Overall a lovely stay
-
"Hideaway cottage is cosy and clean, if you are looking for luxury this may not be the place for you."
Internet connection was brilliant, but no dishwasher which to me is a fail. Kitchen is well equipped, but lots of wasted space, bathroom was excellent really good shower. Beds were exceptionally comfortable with really good mattress 2 minutes walk into town, a really quiet peaceful area We really enjoyed our stay, But a dishwasher is needed for hygiene purposes
-
"Lovely cottage at a quiet location, very convenient for Ambleside and the rest of the district."
The only failing was that we had to clean the kitchen, the living room and the sofas looked grubby, which we covered with the spare blankets.
-
"Hideaway cottage is a lovely place and we really didn't have any complaints."
Location was perfect for town and hiking and the cottage itself had everything that was needed. Whilst it was not a problem for us, it would be worth pointing out on your website that because of the steep staircase to the attic room, persons with mobility issues would not be able to access the room.
-
"A great cottage in a fantastic location."
So close to the centre of Ambleside but tucked away in a quiet corner. We were fortunate enough to always secure on-street parking during our stay. Lucky, as the parking permit had gone home with the previous inhabitants!

"A nice cottage, with plenty of room for a couple."
Two minor points: - we found the lighting in the lounge to be too dim in the evenings for comfortable reading; - the dials on the oven are so worn that they are invisible. We had to Google the oven to find out the settings, especially the temperature. There was no handbook for the oven.
I am so glad that you liked Hideaway Cottage. I will arrange for the lightbulb in the main light in the lounge to be replaced with a higher wattage. I will also arrange for a replacement oven handbook, it's disappointing that cleaning products have unfortunately caused the dial markings to fade. Many thanks for your feedback, the Owner Property Owner

"Lovely cottage with everything we needed."
Only issue is parking. Would really help to be able to collect parking permit alongside the key. It is too difficult to get a car near the cottage to be able to unload therefore you need to be able to park before going to the cottage. Thankfully a lovely man helped me from heart.of the lakes otherwise I don't think I would have managed. Apart from that really good stay.
I am so glad you liked Hideaway and had a good stay. The permits are normally left in the office and collected with the key. As the team are currently working from home due to the Covid situation, the permits are unable to be held at the office just now. However, as soon as the team are back in the office again, the permit will be collected from there with the key. Many thanks, Claire Property Owner

About the location
AMBLESIDE
Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
