  • "An absolutely lovely cottage - very warm and cosy - first class facilities."

The kitchen and bathroom were beautifully done and well equipped. The bedroom was cosy and bed extremely comfortable - the lounge was lovely to relax in, plenty of room to put a dog bed down for them to sleep in - and we sat outside for a couple of evenings too. The undercroft is a fab space - for drying clothes etc although we were lucky and didn’t need this. However the freezer down there was a fab addition and we used this. I would highly recommend the cottage it is perfect and our dogs loved it too - we would love to come back

Thank you Marie for your feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you again with your lovely dogs. We are so glad you were able to sit outside we’ve just been adding a few extra touches and pots and plants to the courtyard garden. Rob and Kelly Metcalf Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

The cottage was cozy, clean, convenient and modernized. The host provided a notebook with great restaurant and walking recommendations. We were able to walk to the Swede Woods & Upper Swede packhorse bridge, which was a delight. The stairs were a challenge, but a good work out. We were able to do all of our laundry. We loved the view of all of the backyards & flowers we could see from the bedroom window.

We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay Claudia. Sweden Bridge really is quite a delightful walk! We hope to welcome you again in the future. Rob and Kelly Property Owner

  • "A beautiful little cottage in a wonderful location."

Had all the comforts of home was always a pleasure opening the Red Door after a day's hiking. The absolute bonus is the "Undercroft" complete with laundry facilities. The cottage was always warm and the water in the shower always hot. More than happy to recommend and I won't hesitate to book again on our next trip to the Lakes. P.S. Our two dogs believe we own our very own holiday home. They had a blast :)

  • "This was a lovely cosy cottage and its location with fantastic walks from the door was perfect."

The welcome pack ( sponge scourer, cloth, bin bag and dishwasher tablets no dishwasher on site) was disappointing to put it mildly. I think the least we have received before was some milk in the fridge and a packet of biscuits. The house was a bit dusty and cobwebby it felt that it had been cleaned but a few weeks back. The quirkiness of the oven and hob would make us think twice about returning. We could only get the larger saucepan to work on the hob and the grill refused to come on. For maintenance the lounge window catch is getting loose probably just needs a tighten and the shower tray is leaking and needs a bit of sealant at the bottom left corner as you look at it from the doorway into the bathroom between the chrome riser and the shower tray. I don't want this to sound like a moan because we have had a lovely stay in a lovely comfortable cottage and none of the above spoilt our stay. We also really appreciated the ability to charge our electric car this was very easy to do, but there was no information about cost or whether there was a cheap tariff time.

Hi Trevor, In addition to responding to your comments from the guest book, to follow up on your comments online. Firstly, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the standard of cleanliness was below expectations. We will review this with our cleaner to ensure this is a one-off. Regarding the welcome pack, you should also have received a welcome bottle of prosecco, tea and coffee - please do let me know if this wasn't left for you and we will ensure for any future stays, you receive an additional pack to welcome you. We choose not to leave milk simply because we know that guests can have different dietary requirements so wouldn't want to waste milk placed unnecessarily. Plus, we agree with you that the provision of dishwasher tablets is misleading - we recently purchased the property and were unaware that these were provided however will stop this. Regarding the car charger, we are happy for guests to use the electric car charger free of charge and I'll ensure this is stated clearly in the email confirmation from Sykes cottages. Finally, thanks for your comments about the lounge window and shower tray - we will get these fixed. Best wishes, Kelly & Rob Metcalf We were glad to read you had a lovely stay last week at Little Robin Cottage. I just wanted to get in touch as I noted your comment in the guest book that you believe only 1 pet may be welcome at the property in the future.... Just to let you know that 2 pets will continue to be welcomed at the cottage for any future bookings. We hope to welcome you back to Little Robin again soon, The Owners Property Owner

Step into a well-equipped kitchen/diner which features Shaker-style cabinets and a variety of integrated equipment including a Smeg electric oven, built-in microwave, induction hob and boiling water tap.

Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor ensures you will be warm during those warmer months.

Continue to the charming sitting room where you can enjoy the views over the town down to the Lake, or those looking up to Wansfell.

Alternatively, sink into the sofa in front of the smart TV while operating the remote-controlled gas stove from the sofa.

The cottage has wi-fi throughout.

On the lower ground floor is a utility room with a Miele washing machine and a separate tumble dryer.

This area also has space and heating for wet clothing, other outdoor gear and storage of mountain bikes.

A full-sized Belfast sink with shower tap is ideal for washing muddy boots, and muddy paws!

Make your way upstairs to the delightful king-sized bedroom which has built-in storage for neatly storing your belongings, and a window where you can sit and enjoy the stunning views down the valley towards the lake.

Alternatively use the separate dressing room with a window seat, dressing table, mirror and hairdryer for getting ready in a peaceful and tranquil setting.

The superb shower room with a glass walk-in shower has a push-button shower start on the wall - to ensure the water is piping hot before you get wet!

During the warmer months, a passage on the side of the house leads to the patio area with garden furniture where you can spend afternoons dining alfresco.

Little Robin is perfectly situated for walking and reference guides are provided.

At the end of the road, the path leads up to Higher Sweden Bridge, with a circular route via Lower Sweden Bridge back to the village.

For those feeling more energetic, the route can go all the way to Fairfield via the Horseshoe, and back via Rydal.

Alternatively take a short stroll into the village for the start of walks to Wansfell Pike, or to Loughrigg Fell.

It is easily possible to spend a week without needing to get behind the wheel of your car, but if you do want to venture further then Scafell Pike, the Langdale Pikes, Coniston Old Man and Helvellyn are all within easy reach.

Ambleside is a real Lakeland town with a beautiful park, shops, excellent restaurants, cafes and bars.

Walk, or take a short drive to Waterhead and you can enjoy Lake Cruises, private boat hire and other water sports, or you can picnic at the ancient Ambleside Roman Fort.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
