  • "Property was in an ideal location."

It was clean and tidy with all the necessary facilities. The bed was comfortable and the bath/shower room had complimetary toiletries . Would definatley stay at the Long Crag Annexe again !!!!

  • "The flat lounge and bedroom were very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable but the although had all the equipment you needed there were several cobwebs in the ceiling corners."

The shower tray in the bathroom had black mould all round the edges and there were hairs on the actual tray and the toilet seat didn't fit properly. It is a shame because if these problems were addressed it is in the perfect location and would be a really nice property but I am unable to recommend and would not use again.

  • "Apartment is in a great location,5 minutes from the centre of Ambleside."

It’s a decent size and the kitchen has everything you would need including a washing machine. Its sadly on the main road in and out of Ambleside so you do hear traffic noise,it’s dog friendly but nowhere for dogs to actually walk / play unless you go to the park 5 minutes away…not ideal when your dog needs to go to the loo several times a day. The owners live above the apartment and this we found to be a bit of an issue as the noise was constant, you can hear people walking about and every single creek of the floorboards. Parking is also a bit of a challenge on a very steep driveway but thankfully the owners only had one car on the driveway.

We were over the moon with our stay, the location was perfect, only a 5 minute walk into ambleside. The facilities were great, lovely shower and comfortable bed for days when when had done a lot of walking. A lot of great walks and hikes nearby too! Great base for seeing the Lake District!

A perfect distance from the town, not too far and not too close.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in Ambleside and were really pleased with our accommodation."

Just two things to mention. 1 We found the instructions about parking slightly confusing. Firstly we were told to park to the left of the property which led us to park in what we later discovered was the turning place; then we were told to park as close to the front door as possible. The later is what we subsequently did. 2 I had a problem with the toilet and shower space. because I am 6'1'', when using the toilet I kept hitting my head against the perspex shower screen; when using the shower if I had my back to the tap, if I inadvertently backed into it, it turned off. I wonder whether a different type of tap might be considered.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay, and thanks for the constructive comments. You're quite right that our wording about where to park is rather ambiguous, and we will alter the instructions for future guests. And we're sorry that you found the shower/lavatory area inconvenient in those respects. It is currently occupied by other guests, but we shall look at it and test it out on Friday. Sadly, there probably isn't a great deal we can do about the space in front of the toilet, but we may be able to do something about the shower. Property Owner

  • "The annexe was fine for what we wanted, somewhere to crash after long hard days in the mountains."

It was all immaculately clean on arrival. The bed was super comfortable and the shower good and hot. There was a problem with the toilet as it took 30 minutes for the cistern to fill, so we had to both go, then flush. The kitchen facilities were fine for us as we'd chosen very easy meals rather than cooking up a storm. I could envisage problems should you want more than 2 saucepans on the go and a casserole or similar in the oven all at the same time, as there was not much available in that respect. There was a lot of furniture scraping noise from upstairs at times and you could hear them moving around, it didn't bother us, but if you want complete silence you won't get it. The property looks a little tired, quite a bit of damp on the walls in the kitchen and peeling paint in places. We could not hear the main road from the annex which was good, it is set back from the road a good way. The gentleman upstairs did come to check we were warm enough which was very thoughtful.

  • "Negatives: 1."

Noise from upstairs neighbours as there didn't seem to be any dampening between floors. Not that they were noisy but you felt and heard every footfall and chair move (and dogs charging about). Disconcerting at times. 2. Carpet was dusty and bitty, probably because the vacuum cleaner needed a service. No suction and filters clogged. No drive to rotary brush. Useless. 3. WiFi unobtainable except at kitchen table. M. Positives: Rest of house very clean and tidy. Comfortable bed, sitting room, good shower. Very well positioned for easy walking to Ambleside centre and country walks. Bus stop immediately outside property to allow visits to all over Lakes.

  • "The property though advertised as an apartment isnt a purpose built apartment."

It was originally a house that has been converted to 2 apartment. The top floor is all wooden floor board. We had a terrible time while there. From 6am until 11pm the tenant upstairs were stomping around, dragging and throw objects around. We downstairs paid the brunt of that house. At some point we thought the ceiling was going to crave in with all that throwing and dragging. Their washing machine at 2200 shook the entire ceiling in the bathroom. When their dog ran around the apartment we could not only hear the stomping but also the pores scrapping the floor boards. We came from London for peace and quiet but we got more stress. The location of this place is good, inside is clean and with good facilities, only issue is the tenant upstairs. Despite several complaints they took no heed. DONT use this apartment if you want some respite and peace.

Many thanks for your feedback, we have fed your comments back to the owner in order to maintain our property standards. Your views are as valued as your initial booking so that we can keep providing the best UK holiday experience. I can see the issue has been addressed and resolved. Property Owner

  • "Nice central location for exploring the Lake District."

Parking the car and getting off the drive again is a nightmare, puts you off going again. Was very noisy in the accompanying flat, we were glad that the lady moved out on the Wednesday but loads of noise till late at night from the removal men also, spoilt the evening, although a lady from Skye’s had called to warn us beforehand. Nice bedroom, but no plug sockets any where near the mirror so I had to buy an extension lead so my wife could plug her hairdryer in. Bed not very comfortable, it’s like sleeping on a slope. Also to appeal to families there could be a sofa bed in the lounge. Kitchen facilities good, strange choice of crockery and cutlery though. Washing machine you need a degree in nuclear science to be able to use it, we eventually sussed out the microwave and cooker bit our washing got stuck in the machine for three days before we could figure out how to open the door! Would be brilliant for an elderly couple as bus stops are very close by, and they could use the free OAP bus passes to explore the Lakes. Car parking charges around the Lake District are extortionate and it costs 40p to use the toilets in many towns!

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
