  • "A lovely cottage, home from home and warm."

Fab location, everything on your door stop and the parking isn’t bad at all with your permit. From payment to picking and dropping the keys off no issues at all.

  • "Lovely location in centre of town."

Kitchen equipment was good although there were only 4 chairs (+2stools) for a place sleeping up to six. We had to request maintenance for non functioning bathroom radiator and underfloor heating. This came very promptly the same day. The downstairs rooms were very cold on arrival and upstairs became very hot so managing the temperature was tricky. The gas fire was a dream on cold day 1 but then stopped functioning too. Maintenance was not requested so still needs looking at.

  • "We are a family of three (2 adults and 18month old) and stayed for four nights."

This was our first visit to the property and won't be our last! This is the cleanest property we have stayed in on a domestic holiday. The kitchen and bathrooms were very modern and provided all facilities needed. The property provided a travel cot and high chair, which we didnt require but was nice extra if needed. The bedrooms were generous and had plenty of storage. The living area was great, and the gas fired stove was a real plus as the weather wasn't fantastic whilst we were there. The central heating was easily controlled by the nest thermostat. The property provides two parking permits, one for the street and one for several nearby car parks. Unfortunately the street permit had just expired but we were offered the opportunity to be refunded if we had to pay for parking. However, the local car park was a 2minute walk so there was no issue for us in this respect using the other permit. The property is ideally located for the restaurants, cafes and the local childrens park. All within a few minutes walk.

  • "The house was very good had everything we needed."

A few things that were difficult was the parking on the road. We managed to only park once. Secondly i felt that they needed Somewhere downstairs to hold coats there Wasn’t enough space and those hooks there on back of door was broken. The washing machine needs to be cleaned and left open as it smelt bad - again easy to fix. The rooms were excellent and the kitchen. I found a cupboard with loads of maps on lake district on the last day. I wish i had known. I dont like snooping in cupboards in a holiday rental .

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased that the house had everything that you needed. We take all comments on board. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "Our family (with three young kids) had a wonderful week staying at Old Stone Cottage in the centre of Ambleside!"

The cottage was lovely and clean on arrival. The beds were just fabulous!! The stand alone bath is HUGE and the kids LOVED it!! We stayed for a week in January 2023. The gas fire in the lounge wasn't working. We called the office and they sent someone round within a couple of hours to check it. It unfortunately needed an engineer. The office dropped off 2 electric heaters within an hour to heat the lounge, which were perfect. It was freezing outside and the house was lovely and warm throughout! Our only downside were the stairs to the third floor bedroom which were very steep and not suitable for our 4 year old to use at night to use the toilet in the main bathroom on the 1st level. The kitchen was brilliantly equipped with everything you'd need (and more!) There was even a great pushchair to use should you need one!! The washing machine and tumble drier we're fabulous and used everyday with three muddy boys!! All in all it was a brilliant holiday cottage! Parking outside the house is very tricky (in winter!) as the cottage is located down a small little road in the centre of Ambleside. Only around 6 cars can park in the whole road! There is an outdoor carpark 1 minute away if the parking is full! In summer it would be near impossible to park in the road outside! The Tesco express is a 1 minute walk! Ambleside is just lovely! If you have young kids, the play park by the church is outstanding with great things to play on and only a 5 minute walk from the cottage! Fab place to stay! We will definitely be back and use Sykes cottages again! Thank you for a brilliant stay!!

Nice cottage, parking a major issue, esp during school holiday times, not very clear how to use the parking permits, they say to refer to the info on the council car park boards, but there is nothing about them, so it leaves you guessing, more info in the house book about their use would be good

  • "Really enjoyed being right in the middle of Ambleside."

What a 'Tardis' of a house. Plenty of space for us. Parking permits were a very welcome addition. Really comfy beds, sofas, and clear information. I hope we left it all ok as per instructions. (Maybe this bit just for owners... Suggestions. Only minor 2nd key maybe somewhere would be helpful. Cleaners dont look up, lots of spiders and cobwebs (had to clear before my daughter would enter) Back door main lock very stiff. Couldn't lock)

  • "This is a lovely cottage, perfect for 4 nights in Ambleside."

There was everything there we needed for our stay. It's in a great position in the town to be able to walk to shops, restaurants, pubs etc. We were particularly impressed with the amount of storage in the bedrooms and the fantastic bathroom on the 1st floor. I also loved little details like the extra blankets in one of the bedroom cupboards. The only very slight draw back was that parking could be a challenge. Great holiday had.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Stones Cottage and it’s very central yet surprisingly quiet too."

It’s very clean and warm also. Only down side is the parking..it’s not easy to get a space on the street, almost impossible and the permit is only for that street. If you are a party of two cars, then one will have to dodge the restrictions but fine if you plan to use your car daily as you can park nearby 6pm-10am quite easily overnight. It wouldn’t put us off staying again but for others it may.

  • "The only quibble we have is that for some reason the hot water ran out."

.. and we couldn't find anything in the info or through the Nest controller to temporarily boost the hot water heating. It was ok though, we just used the shower downstairs, and other than that, the stay and the cottage were great!

Sorry to hear the problem with the hot water, its is strange as the house has a combie boiler that heats water on demand and not part of the nest system. We have since tested it and it seems to work fine. Property Owner

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
