The property

Rose Cottage is a stone-built, double fronted house sitting in the heart of Ambleside, Lake District.

Subject of the world-famous painting 'The Old Mill' by JMW Turner, 1798, the property is tucked away next to a river and offers a great location near plenty of pubs, shops, bakeries, cafés and restaurants.

Rose Cottage has everything for a wonderful holiday with family and friends; start your stay in the contemporary kitchen/diner, where you can cook up a storm on the induction hob with underfloor heating beneath your feet for added comfort.

From here, move into the sitting room, where you can sit back and relax in front of the woodburning stove, perfect for cosy nights in.

For additional entertainment, why not head to the snug, where you can sprawl out on the large sofa and watch a movie on the 65-inch ultra–HD Smart TV?

As your day draws to a close, prepare for a restful night's sleep in one of the four bedrooms.

Choose from a king-size with an en-suite bathroom, two king-size bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, and a twin, all tastefully-decorated and fitted with fresh linen.

A further mid-landing shower room completes the property.

There is a private alleyway at the rear of the house where you can store bicycles (at your discretion and risk) as well as a lockable boot room, for walking attire.

Head out the back door to access the enclosed gravelled patio, featuring a furniture set, from which you can enjoy breakfast whilst watching the village pass by.

Just opposite is an excellent bakery, perfect for picking up fresh pastries each morning, while a little further along is a convenience store where you can gather the essentials.

As the sun begins to set, head out to the secluded, front gravelled garden, perhaps with a bottle of wine, where you can marvel at views of the picturesque Stock Ghyll and its water wheel.

Explore the vibrant streets of the town, visit the Armitt Museum and Library, take a trip to the picturesque Bridge House, or browse the shops and enjoy a meal at one of the many cafes, pubs, or restaurants.

Head to the shore of Lake Windermere and embark on a boat trip, using the ferry service to explore the lake, or experience the great outdoors with a walk or cycle ride along the lake shore.

Delve into the past, with visits to the many historic castles, abbeys and churches, for a unique insight into the history of the area, or take a drive to the Ullswater Valley and explore the stunning scenery.

With so much to see and do, you will never want your stay at Rose Cottage to end.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.

Where you’ll be staying

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
