  • "We love everything about Spring Cottage."

We've stayed 3 times now and hope to stay again.

  • "We've stayed here before."

Clean and tidy and well appointed with everything we needed for our week long stay. Is ideally placed for a trip to the centre of Ambleside without the need to drive although anybody with mobility issues would struggle up Peggy Hill. Nice and quiet in The Falls (except the sound of the Ghyll which you cant control).

  • "Just got back from a fabulous stay at Spring Cottage, the photos were very accurate as it was beautiful."

Location is superb only a short walk into Ambleside although there are a few steep hills in places. Very relaxing next to the waterfall which is close to the cottage which didn't bother us at all. When we arrived on the Saturday night there was no heating or hot water, rang Lakelovers and someone came out within half an hour and sorted it which was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

  • "The cottage was, as usual, very comfortable, and in an area close enough to the village to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet."

I like the restful sound of the ghyll, but this time the weather was too cold to leave the window open overnight. There are several good walks from the door, and good local bus services, so a car isn't always necessary, but it's great to have a sufficiently large garage to take the car easily. One quibble was that the shower needs some attention; it had constant slow drips from several places and, when in use, water gushed from round the temperature control. A problem with the fridge door handle was fixed promptly and effectively. Spring Cottage also seemed to be home to an array of wildlife; each morning I went round and removed several millipedes and woodlice, who obviously found it as welcoming as I did!

  • "We like Spring Cottage a lot."

We've stayed twice before and hope to stay again. On this occasion the experience was initially seriously spoiled by the place being cold and the boiler not working. Lakelovers number was useless as we arrived after the phone line closed for the day. Very unhelpful on a Saturday. The helpline was equally useless. We left a message and got no response. The guidance advice was to call the owner but he/she had not left a number that we could find. Eventually we found the boiler manual and realised that maybe we had to re-pressurise the central heating system. Under the boiler we found a mess of pipes and taps. Once we'd identified the correct taps it was a quick process to re-pressurise the system and the boiler promptly started. We think the owner should leave much better guidance on this. Not having a working boiler (so no heat and no hot water) and having no access to outside help and no easy way to identify the problem and fix it is a traumatic way to start a holiday.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy to hear you had a lovely holiday at Spring Cottage, we are sorry you were unable to contact the hour of hours team this is not something that happens often as the phone lines are occupied 24hours a day, please contact us if you do like this to be investigated more and we hope to see you again soon. • "The position and layout of this cottage is superb!"

Lovely open plan lounge, diner and kitchen and having an extra toilet upstairs was great! The place was spotless and easily accommodated 4 adults: stacks of storage space in bedrooms and the kitchen. A few small niggles - there isn’t 2 car parking spaces, we had to park one car across the other which could have made it difficult if all the properties had been rented out; kitchen equipment needs updating- very blunt knives, small pans and only just enough cutlery and plates, so lots of washing up was done. Despite the weather, we did have a super week! Thank you.

  • "A fantastic stay in Spring cottage and the accommodation was perfect for us and our son."

He loved playing the games and exploring the garden area. The furniture was comfortable however, if you are 6 foot plus, the double bed will not quite cater for a comfortable sleep with the tail board. We will definitely be rebooking again to stay in this perfect location.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Spring Cottage and would highly recommend it to other guests."

The property is in a beautiful location and a short walk into town, although the hills were a little steep in places and would be a problem for those with limited mobility. The cottage was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay, although no spare toilet rolls! The waterfall is quite loud from the bedrooms but it didn't keep us awake, and was quite soothing. We would definitely stay here again!

  • "Great week spent at Spring Cottage with lots of hiking and sightseeing around the area."

The property has a fantastic central location, double width covered parking and an upside-down layout alongside lovely bright decoration which made for a very pleasant place to be in (occasional) inclement weather. We found no issues with the WiFi, but the label had worn off a little - perhaps making it hard to determine the first few password characters (p64G)? We would have preferred a dishwasher over the washer/dryer in the kitchen while the 2nd bedroom remained noticeably colder than the rest of the property and weirdly, each time we returned to the property we would discover some worms/millipedes (?) had managed to get in under the rear door and fallen down the stairs – but none of that would deter us from staying here again.

  • "We were really impressed by the cottage which has been decorated and furnished/accessorised really tastefully."

We were initially concerned that the noise from the waterfall would affect our sleep but it soon becomes nothing more than background noise. The only negative is that the shower screen was not big enough which resulted in puddles of water on the bathroom floor each time it was used. And we could not get the WiFi password to work.. but we were able to connect to our own BT Broadband via the hub. Well with a walk down and up the other side of the beck to a lovely waterfall. Plenty of nice places to eat in Ambleside and of course the beauty of the Lakes on your doorstep. One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in.

  • "Overall the property is lovely and it's high on our shortlist to book again."

A few quibbles: The lights in the mirrors don't work, or we just couldn't work out how to switch them on. Those modern electric hobs are a nightmare to operate without instructions. Totally un-intuitive and frustrating. Please provide the manual. Your wi-fi code in the handbook is out of date but we used the one on the router. The solid oak furniture is great but there is room for a 5 foot bed (king). We find a 4 foot 6 inch bed (queen) a bit cramped. Downstairs was nice and cool but upstairs got very hot in the week we were there. A couple of electric fans would be appreciated.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay. We will ask our Maintenance Team to look into the points raised with the mirror, and we will take a look at the information provided to ensure that it is up to date. We do find that beds are down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

Long may it stay on your books as it feels like our own holiday home. Good to see the hairdryer flex has been replaced and the grill rack sorted out from last year. However, we were disappointed to note that this year the light tubes in both bathroom mirrors need to be replaced. The one in the main bathroom is potential fire risk as if accidentally turned on it gets really hot but you cannot see that it is on unless it is dark. Also, still think the cottage needs a bigger teapot capable of catering for four guests and we noted there are now only three bowls rather than four.

The photos on the website match the accommodation. We got the lucky week with the weather-bright sunshine and 30 degrees-and the upside layout of the house worked perfectly making the bedrooms cooler at nighttime. Having the windows open and listening to the water was just magic. It’s in a super location, town centre only a few minutes walk away. Great longer walks on the doorstep (beating the sun up around the Fairfield horseshoe was a fantastic experience!). There is plenty of private parking-easy room for two cars. Outside space needs looking at as it has had no attention ,chairs need a good scrub, grass was knee high so couldn't even sit on that instead. Also think that the noise from the falls should be mentioned as i found it very loud, also bedrooms and bathroom seemed to have a lot of insects around which seemed odd as we didn't have windows open . We were a bit surprised to find the kitchen bin full of rubbish when we arrived, though otherwise the place was generally clean. Some kitchen items could have done with a bit of an update - e.g. blunt knives and veg peeler made food prep a bit frustrating, and limited number of some items - small things but combined with lack of spare loo rolls, lack of dishwasher, etc, generally led to a feeling of the property being slightly substandard, considering what we’d paid for the week! Also worth noting that the stairs to the front door could be a bit precarious/slippery when wet!

Thank you for taking the time to provide further feedback following your stay at Spring Cottage. Following your feedback the property owner has purchased and replaced the kitchen utensils for the benefit of future guests. Lakelovers Housekeeping would like to apologise for the oversight regarding the kitchen bin and we do hope our team were able to rectify this immediately. As standard in our self catering properties we do provide one toilet roll per bathroom and all amenities are listed in the property description. We do hope that despite these issues you had a wonderful time in the Lakes as we hope to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Property Owner

There was no toilet roll in the upstairs bathroom and only one downstairs; spares would have been appreciated. The fridge door possibly needs adjusting as you have to be careful to make sure it is fully closed and doesn't start defrosting. It would be good to have some general instructions re the central heating, bin collection day, etc. Overall, the property is absolutely fabulous and we really enjoyed our stay, We hope to book again next year.

Thank you for your additional feedback following your stay at Spring Cottage. Since your feedback the property owner has carried out a full renovation of the property and purchased all new kitchen appliances and furniture ( including a new fridge). The window looking out onto the waterfall was a particularly nice feature of the property. The only downside, which is not a criticism of Sykes, was that someone had let their dog foul right at the bottom of the steps leading to the front door and we have a baby and toddler so that wasn’t pleasant. Also, the field garden at the back was great and we would have made more use of it but again we saw people walking their dogs so we were a bit wary of the kids standing on something.
