"Property afforded comprehensive amenities and a comfortable environment."
The visit took place when the weather changed and became cooler needing the central heating which was very efficient but simple operational instructions would have been helpful and the same applied for the smart tv.
-
"Amazing cottage, beautifully presented, clean with everything you need."
We had a wonderful time visiting the nearby lakes and towns everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Would recommend staying in Stone Howe if you're looking for somewhere peaceful with access to beautiful scenery and places to visit.

"Better instructions to find the property."
We ended up going up the struggle twice trying to find it.Maybe put on the directions, property is situated just before the sign for the struggle. Thanks.

"There were a few items that need attention the most urgent in my opinion is the microwave oven, this item was left in a dirty state we had to clean it before we could use it, it has rusty areas inside the oven, the paint is flaking off also."
As stated by previous guests there were 2 x dinner plates that were chipped. On the day of departing we removed the bed linen and left it in bathroom for washing, only to find that the duvet in double room had several stains on it, this needs cleaning or replacing. Apart from these things we had a great stay at this property, it is in a great location for exploring the lakes etc.

"Beautiful cottage."
Lovely location, clean, comfortable, warm and with great views. Everything you could ask for and will definitely return.
-
"This is our 5th stay at this property (3 Stone Howe, 2 Little Stone Howe) what a lovely place, Family helpful if you have problems and attend immediately if needed."
Very good value for money and we will be back

"A few small snags, the first two slots in the toaster didn’t work, no battery in the living room clock, toilet seat was loose."
-
"Fantastic cottage spacious warm cosy and comfortable."
Home from home.Beautiful views especially when it was snowing,as it did when we stayed. Paul one of the owners came and cleared the snow away he was very kind and helpful. We will definitely return next year for a holiday.
-
"Absolutely loved the cottage, it was spacious and had everything you needed for a relaxing holiday."
The super king bed was really comfortable. The cottage was very homely and we enjoyed chilling in the conservatory with the warmth from the winter sun. It is in an ideal quiet location with a 5 minute walk into the town and there ware plenty of walks on the doorstep. Would definitely recommend it. Janet and Steve

"All you could ever need and more!"
. Excellent views over the fells and only a 5 minute stroll to the town centre. Even the lake is an easy walk. Highly recommended.
-
"The cottage was homely, comfortable, and very clean."
It also had great views, and of course walks from the door. All in all the nicest cottage we have stayed in for a while.
-
"Stone Howe provides a very comfortable base for a Lake District holiday."
The garden, view and tranquility are a real bonus. Ten minute Access to the village centre (via Peggy Hill) is very good. After our fifth visit we noted some areas are looking a little tired and ‘’pared back’’ since Covid restrictions. Guidance relating to the mysteries of the television (relating to fluctuating signal strength) would be very helpful! Cleanliness levels, however, are excellent and we would have no hesitation in recommending or returning to Stone Howe again.

"We had a lovely stay, facilities were top quality, garden beutiful parking excellent ."
Leather suit comfy and lots of cushions, cooking facilities excellent! One small point, chairs in the conservatory not as photographs show,it was rattan woven seats with square cushions, probably OK for younger folk, but we were looking forward to the reclining chairs on the Sykes Cottages pictures, otherwise great ! "Delighted with this lovely property, especially the garden & conservatory."
All rooms spotlessly clean & beautifully decorated. The super king bed was a bonus & made our stay even more comfortable. Very quiet location despite being so convenient for the village.
-
"We loved the cottage, it was airy and light, the furnishings were high quality and very comfortable, the position was perfect - so quiet yet a short walk to town."
So much to love! We had a lovely stay and we'd book again and recommend to friends. What we'd mention to friends though, is to take their own books, games, dvds, and milk as there weren't any there and we couldn't get Netflix! Perfect otherwise.
Thank you for your comments, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay and would recommend us to friends. We have taken your suggestions on board. Property Owner

"Excellent cottage."
Very well equipped. Very comfortable. Convenient position in Ambleside.

"We really like this holiday cottage, in fact I have already booked it for 2023."
It's in such a convenient place and is very quiet in spite of being so close to town. Our only very minor quibbles would be that it would be nice to have a memory foam mattress topper on the bed. On the positive, the washing machine was, I think, a new one and washed and dried very effectively.
-
"The house was fabulous but the interior was not like the pictures."
The place would be more attractive with some colour and accessories. It is not very suitable for elderly people walking as the hill is very steep.
-
"A really nice place and we had a fantastic stay."
Everything was clean and well appointed. The conservatory area at the back was lovely. I think the only feedback I would give to the owner is that the place felt a little impersonal. We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and they nearly always have things like board games, DVDs, books etc. but Stone Howe had none of these. Maybe this is something to do with COVID - I don't know - but that is the only thing that seemed to be missing to us. Certainly not a huge problem though! Thank you for a great stay!
-
"Cottage very good, only problem is the ensuite shower room is too small."
This didn't spoil the holiday.
-
"The property was everything we wanted for our stay in The Lake District."
However, the outside seating area was in need of tidying up.
-
"The bungalow is very comfortable, excellent position and the garden and conservatory are a bonus."
We have stayed here four times, so obviously we like Stone Howe very much . The decor in the lounge is, perhaps a little tired now. The bedrooms are lovely and we hope to return. Thank you
-
"This is our 2nd stay at Stone Howe and we have stayed a Little Stone Howe twice too."
Totally recommend the whole property. On arrival this time we had a problem and someone came out and sorted it and was very polite and chatty (and most apologetic for coming whilst we were having our tea!!)
-
"Great location although there is a steep climb back up to the house from town - so can be a challenge for elderly, disabled, unfit."
Well-equipped and everything worked fine, though some changes from furnishings and fittings shown in photographs e.g. comfy-looking conservatory furniture no longer there. Central heating was excellent - really important for Xmas/New Year holiday with elderly parents. Fridge is small and door doesn't always close well. Car parking was a challenge especially if there are guests in flat below and you need to fit 3 cars in driveway.
-
"On the whole the property was fine, but it was stated that there were 2 parking spaces: the second space was impossible for a large car."
Fortunately, we had recently exchanged our qashqai for a smaller model. Even then it was fairly tight getting the car in and it took 4 attempts and 3 people (1 driver and 2 guides) to get it out. As soon as we managed to get the car out, we managed to find some street parking and left our car there for the duration of the holiday. I also think the conservatory furniture needs attention. We didn’t use that particular room as the seating was uncomfortable and in a bad state of repair. The lounge was very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the property was well decorated.
-
"The owners were very responsive to problems and were very friendly and helpful."
-
"Spacious and well-appointed accommodation close to the town centre but quiet and with some views."
We found it very well equipped, a cut above the usual amount of space, well laid out and very comfortable. Having a full bathroom and an ensuite, plus the option of the second parking space, made it generous provision for four people. A most enjoyable stay.

"Beautiful cottage with stunning views wherever you look."
Immaculately clean throughout and everything you’ll need for an enjoyable time. I took my elderly parents as it was listed as only a short walk into Ambleside and thought that would be a perfect spot as they aren’t able to walk too far now, unfortunately what the listing doesn’t say is that it’s situated quite a long way up a very steep road so that made access into the town impossible and parking in the town is very difficult to find a space. As a result we didn’t see any of Ambleside really but it was a great location for exploring the rest of the area.

About the location
AMBLESIDE
Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
