Lovely house, great location, comfortable throughout, we had a great stay at uldale, the only negatives are, that the garden could do with a tidy, overgrown bushes, just could be a lot neater, only had 3 drinking tumbles and 3 wine glasses, the carpet in the lounge, could do with replacing, as there is a tear, which will only get worse, but all in all, lovely stay

Many thanks for your feedback. We are sorry the garden is a little overgrown. We will get this sorted very soon. Thank you for letting us know about the glasses too, we will also get replacements arranged. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Uldale :-) Property Owner

  • "A really lovely cottage."

We were 5 adults and a dog - found the house to be a great size for all of us and very comfortable. Lovely to have an enclosed garden for the dog - and enjoyed by us too. We appreciated the extras ( washer tabs, dish washer tabs, dish cloths etc). Other reviews mentioned no extras such as salt etc - good to know in advance and not a problem as we took our own supplies. The cottage is in a good location for walks out and handy for the shops. We barely used our car during our stay. We would recommend the cottage.

Many thanks for your lovely feedback. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Uldale, and that you would recommend :-) Property Owner

  • "The house was very comfortable and warm."

We felt it was a shame that condiments like salt and pepper were not provided. A small but useful thing to do. Also there were not enough toilet rolls. Again such a small but important factor. However, the house is very well situated and within walking distance of the shops and pubs of Ambleside.

  • "I will revise this listing once a dispute is resolved."

An old chair with existing damage gave way during our stay. Luckily this happened when moving the chair, and not sitting on it as it is likely giving it's proximity to the fireplace injury may have occurred. On inspection, the chair leg has previously broken and had been stuck together with pins. Photographs have been shared with Sykes, however £90 has been taken from me. I have shared the photographs and respect a refund.

Bit of a drip on the hot tap in the kitchen and it seemed a wee bit cooler in the house than last year, maybe it's just us getting a year older! I would have no hesitation recommending Uldale to friends or family.

  • "The setting and property itself are lovely, very convenient and cosy."

We were disappointed to arrive at the check-in time to find the property had not been cleaned from the previous guests, this was however addressed relatively quickly and to a good standard, but this was not the start to a break in the lakes we had wished for. The beds were very hard and lumpy and the pillows could also do with a refresh, it was challenging to have a comfortable nights sleep. I have since read back on previous feedback and reviews left by other guests who have also mentioned the same about the beds and pillows, so it is a shame it appears this hasn't been addressed.

The only reason for not giving 5 stars for comfort and maintenance is that the two double mattress could do with replacing and the toilet seat in the bathroom needs adjustment. Apparently this has been reported before.

Uldale was very comfortable and we would recommend staying there. We have a few comments but none of which would impact us booking again. 1. After torrential rain and then getting showers the back garden flooded from the drains (we did email to advise but no reply) 2. The kitchen tap is dripping (again we did email) 3. Both double beds are not as comfortable as the single beds. We ended up staying in the smaller double bedroom 4. Seat pads for the wooden kitchen seats would have been appreciated 5. The back garden was over grown and needs some attention

The property was in a good location with a nice private rear garden. The property needs some attention. The downstairs toilet needed work chunks of plaster were off the walls and a proper shower in the main bathroom would have been good as it was very difficult to regulate the water temperature.

  • "The holiday cottage was as described - in fact better."

The kitchen was very well equipped and the bedrooms were all very comfortable. We had good weather when we stayed and the front garden was a real suntrap - lovely to soak up the sun after days out and walks. Plenty of walks from the cottage and it was a bonus to be able to walk out to restaurants etc. in the evenings (but book ahead). Paddy the Patterdale terrier enjoyed the big bowls left for him to eat out of. If anything I found the cottage a little warm at times (heating was on in the middle of the night!) though this suited some members of our party. :-) The only things we found lacking were a wooden chopping board and a visitor book to read prior guest's comments / recommendations and to leave ours. Will definitely be more than happy to stay again.

Many thanks for your lovely feedback, and very glad Paddy liked his bowls! I will arrange a visitor book - such a lovely idea. Thank you Property Owner

  • "Everything about the cottage was almost perfect, the only problem being the left hand side of the garden which has a tall hedge as the boundary."

Despite the cottage being dog friendly our two small Tibetan Spaniels escape into the neighbour’s garden by just walking under the hedge to freedom. The addition of some low level chicken wire would sort out the problem.

We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Uldale. Thank you for the recommendation regarding the chicken wire, we definitely don't want any escaping pets - I will look into this. Many thanks Property Owner

Plenty of extras ( washer tabs, dish washer tabs, dish cloths etc) I think the only minor issue was the heating it did get a wee bit cold at times. We will hopefully be staying again on our next visit.

Hi David Many thanks for your lovely feedback. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay at Uldale. Apologies you felt the heating was a little cool. The thermostat is located in the hallway and must have been set a little too low for the frosty January we have had. I will adjust this now. Thanks again Property Owner

  • "Absolutely lovely little cottage."

Perfect for our family. A super short stroll to the centre whilst also being in a really quiet street. Off road parking a massive plus. The property has lots of space at with a large kitchen diner and a big living room with wc at the back of it. 3 good size bedrooms too. Property also really clean. My only negative comments would be I was a little disappointed with the amount of things left out for us, ie we ran out of toliet roll, only small amounts of handwash left in the bathrooms and there was no detergent for the washing machine ( something we have always found in previous cottage). Also lakelovers stated a 10am check out but in the cottage was a sign saying check out 9am due to covid..which is hard going with three kids to be up, packed and out for 9am. That being said I would definitely stay at the cottage again as we really enjoyed our stay and I would absolutely recommend it, I'd just make sure to take extras of basic necessities.

  • "We felt like this place was a home from home."

We've visited the Lakes many times but never actually stayed in Ambleside. This was ideal for us, with lots of walks from the door. I appreciate having hooks to hangs things on, space for boots in the porch and a good kitchen. The whole place was comfy and had a nice atmosphere and we will definitely come again. The views from the house and garden were lovely! Just a few minor issues to point out - we also left a note for the housekeeper. We couldn't find out how to make the cooker hob fan stay on. It came on if you keep the buttons pressed but went off on release. Didn't affect us but thought you should know. The front gutter on the left looking at the house was overflowing quite badly about a metre from the neighbour, probably needs clearing. A simple guide to the heating control and microwave would be useful. We couldn't find any bin bags. If you want to use this review feel free to take off the last bits kind regards Stephen and Diane Poole

  • "The cottage is in a fabulous location with impressive views of the surrounding hills."

It’s really convenient to pop to the shops in Ambleside and there are some lovely walks straight from the door. The outlook at the back and the garden is also lovely and would be a real asset to sit out and admire the view in Summer. The house feels spacious and the layout works really well with the loo/utility room at the back for boots and washing, plus the two separate reception rooms and then separate shower and bathroom upstairs. As others have said, the cottage could do with a bit of an upgrade inside - a real wood burner, rather than a fan heater, and a nice rug in the lounge would make a world of difference. Overall a great property, though.
