"We had a great week in a very cosy cottage, clean and comfortable."
Close to town centre (2 mins downhill ) variety of shops and eateries. Good pubs especially the Hare n Hounds where the locals are friendly and informative. The cask beer is excellent and the open fire in the upper room is always welcoming. If you like the outdoors then you are in heaven, walks to suit everyone and nature on your doorstep literally including Red Squirrels. You are only 30 mins to the “ Lakes “ or jump on the Settle to Carlisle train.
Thank you for your kind words- we love it when guests enjoy the cottage and the region. Look forward to welcoming you back ! Property Owner

Centrally located, ideal for sightseeing. Would definitely recommend and if I was staying in the area again would not hesitate to return.
Thank you for your kind review. It always makes us happy that guests enjoy their stay. Oak Cottage is a cherished listed building and our housekeeper noted how well you had looked after the cottage. Owner and guest partnership is what makes it work. And thank you for being flexible with allowing our maintenance man to visit. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Very clean and well equipped. Complimentary tea bags and coffee were a nice touch. Pretty garden. Enjoyed watching the bat flying around on an evening. Lovely neighbours. Really enjoyed our stay. Would happily stay here in the future.

"Minor comments would be: Useful if there was a selection of area walks (there were a couple in the box folder but not many), useful to newbys to the area."
Provide kitchen roll as standard, after all the stand for this was there. Provide J cloth rather than or as well as sponge, which has limited usage. I agree a little pedantic but comments made. Other than that a great cottage.
Thank you for your comments - generally there is kitchen paper roll available - this was an oversight on this occasion. It's a good idea to have more brochures on walks in the box - noting that the bookcase has a lot of high quality local guide books. We are pleased that overall you found the cottage lovely. "Excellent location."
Comfortable living area and kitchen has everything that you would need on a holiday. Wood burner was required due to the cold weather and although different to my own was easy to operate with instructions given - quality of logs was excellent. Hope to return in better climatic conditions to enjoy the garden area and finish reading the wonderful book on Blencathra and some of the other guide books. Most pleasant stay.
Thank you for your kind words - we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and very happy that you enjoyed the books. Shame about the weather - if you do come back in the milder months the garden will be a nice retreat to finish the books Property Owner

About the location
APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND
Penrith 14 miles.
The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
