Old Cottage is a characterful old-and-new cottage in the quiet hamlet of Oxen Park, Cumbria, enjoying views of Morecambe Bay and The Old Man of Coniston.
Over 200 years old, yet seamlessly blending contemporary living with original features such as exposed beams and wooden doors and furnishings, this pet-friendly home invites a couple or small family to escape to the stunning Lake District National Park.
On arrival, a track leads to the door where you can unload with ease, before finding a spot at the roadside to park up.
Stepping inside the cottage, the kitchen rests in the newer side of the cottage, with views over to Morecambe Bay on a clear day, and is home to all the appliances you could need for a self-catering break, as well as a handy washer/dryer, should you find your walking gear needs a refresh.
From here, steps lead into the old side of the cottage and into the ample dining room, where you can enjoy home-cooked meals or plan your days out at the table.
Moving through the home, the sitting room boasts a cast-iron woodburning stove, the perfect addition to the space for you to cosy up in front of with a film on the Smart TV.
Finishing off the ground floor is a shower room and a cloakroom, providing plenty of space to freshen up.
Climbing the stairs, you’ll find a welcoming double bedroom to rest in, along with a handy sofa-bed/dressing room.
In the warmer months, you can enjoy alfresco meals, with the quaint garden set up perfectly for savouring the views of the surrounding hills.
From the doorstep, you can find the upmarket restaurant, Manor House, the ideal spot for a celebratory meal with your loved one, or you can take the footpath from the garden to Bouth and its traditional-style pub, The White Hart.
For watersports, you’ll be just a short drive away from the peaceful Coniston Water, making for an idyllic walk or kayak.
Slightly further away is the bustling Windermere, where you’ll find a variety of shops and eateries, as well as equipment hire and the Windermere Steamers, if you prefer to stay dry whilst on the water!
Foodies may want to visit the twin town of Bowness-on-Windermere, for an extra choice of restaurants.
If hiking is more your thing, there are plenty of fells to explore in the area, or you can wander through the flora and fauna of Grisdale Forest.

ULVERSTON
Lake Windermere 10 miles; Coniston Water 11 miles.
Ulverston is a traditional market town built around a cobbled main street. It boasts a fine selection of independent shops, café’s, and pubs with open fires and real ales. There is an extensive selection of eating places to suit everyone, from fine dining to traditional pub food. Ulverston is also well known as a festival town, with events ranging from flags and walking to art and music festivals throughout the summer months and with the renowned Dickensian Christmas festival in late November. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and world record holder of the biggest foam pie fight in the world giving a glimpse into the fun community spirited little town. There are excellent walks around the town and beautiful countryside, with views of the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay. Home to the deepest, widest and shortest canal, which makes for a lovely afternoon walk with a pub at the end and views over the bay. All of the attractions of the National Park are also easily reached. The Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good birdwatching. Nearby family attractions include the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Lakes Windermere and Coniston and popular Birkrigg Common, with its incredible panoramic views across Morecambe Bay.
