  • "Lovely property with everything we needed for a short break."

A warm property with effective heating we could control. Good secure garden for pets or children. Walking in the grounds of the main house each day was peaceful and relaxing and good connections by car to local shops and towns. Only negative was the kitchen door lock which was beyond sticky!

  • "This is our second stay at Elsa lovely cottage very comfortable and very well fitted out the level of cleanliness throughout the cottage is first class a credit to the cleaners."

The grounds of Wyreside hall are spectacular with gorgeous walks and plenty of wildlife to see. We will certainly be returning again.

  • "This was our third visit to Wyreside cottages but this time we were in Elsa rather than Balloo, as that was not available for the dates we wanted."

The cottage was very comfortable and clean and has a freezer department in the fridge, Balloo does not, but no washing machine, there are laundry facilities available in the main house but we did not need them this time. While we were there, there was a serious water leak in the area which meant we had a tiny trickle water for nearly 24 hours but the owner kept us constantly informed as to what was happening with messages forwarded from the water authority and they provided a tanker for the residents of the cottages and did everything they could to help. The only downside I think I should mention is the modern design bath downstairs, it's like sitting in a large pudding basin and is almost impossible to get out of safely if you are over 70, my husband had to help me and we laughed about it for ages afterwards but if you like a good soak to relax it's not ideal, so the two showers available upstairs are recommended. Without babbling on any more we absolutely love Wyreside cottages and can recommend them to all, the area is stunning and peaceful and the owners do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable without being intrusive.

  • "Cottage and grounds are beautiful."

We found the lounge cold and the tv and signal not very good. The floors needed a good wash my new slippers I had to throw away as the bottoms were filthy.

  • "On arrival we instantly felt at home , the grounds were beautiful & much better than the description given , the drive up the track to the cottage was amazing with views to die for !"

I was amazed at how clean the cottage was , as if if it was just built , the cleaning staff did a wonderful job ! The fixtures & fittings were also of a much better standard than described & we could not find fault with anything , having 200 acres of grounds to wander made it extra special ! Only a short drive from a good selection of shops & supermarkets & places of interest ! We didn't venture far over our 3 day stay as we didn't need to as we're nature lovers , from the hares running across the lawns to the roe deer grazing . This is a real credit to the owners & is a real hidden Gem , we can't recommend it highly enough ! Don't just take our word for it " GO & STAY " !

  • "This is a wonderfully peaceful place to stay amid fields on the banks of the river Wyre."

A rural idyll in fact. The cottage is spacious, clean and very well eqipped. The fittings are of a very high standard and my wife was loath to leave the kitchen! Strongly recommended. Ps wifi and phone signal good

About the location

LANCASTER

Morecambe 3 miles; Windermere 30 miles; Blackpool 37 miles.

The historic city of Lancaster sits on edge of Morecambe Bay, the sea is barely 3 miles away. Equally, Lancaster is perfect if you’re looking to explore the Lake District, Windermere is just 30 miles away.

The tidal River Lune flows through the city and St George’s Quay, with its elegant Georgian warehouses standing eave to eave on the riverfront, is considered to be the finest example of an original 18th Century port anywhere in the country.

Indeed, Lancaster retains many examples of handsome Georgian architecture and the area around the castle, particularly Castle Hill, Castle Park and Nip Hill are considered its most alluring quarter.

Lancaster’s skyline is dominated by the Ashton Memorial, made of white Portland stone and dedicated to the second wife of millionaire industrialist, Lord Ashton, it’s built in Neo-Baroque style and affords spectacular views of Morecambe bay from its hilltop location in Williamson Park, open-air concerts are held throughout the summer in the park.

Foremost among Lancaster’s clutch of museums, the Maritime Museum is the place to get to grips with Lancaster’s role in the unsavoury slave trade, behind only London, Bristol and Liverpool, Lancaster was the fourth largest city engaged in the 18th Century trade of African slaves across the Atlantic.

In addition to the Lake District, some of northern England’s greatest scenery is right on your doorstep: the Forest of Bowland, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all easily accessible, offer the perfect opportunity to discover nature in the raw. And don’t forget, Lancaster’s location on the West Coast Mainline, means there are direct trains to all parts of the country.
