It was like staying in a beautiful family home. Later we discovered that was exactly we were privileged to be staying in. There was everything we could possibly need from comfy beds, views from every window down to walking poles and an amazing collection of books. It is extremely comfortable and well equipped and very much a home from home. The Welcome Pack was indeed 'welcome' and Elaine did a marvellous job in ensuring the property was ready for our arrival. She was a good contact prior to our arrival and a good source of local information. The Red Pump Inn was closed during our stay but Waddington has some good pubs. We had a brilliant time at The Old Forge. The house was cosy even though it was so large, while having four bathrooms for five guests was a tremendous bonus. The house was filled with masses of old books, paintings, samplers, furniture and an abundance of interesting nick backs. Many a Mario Kart race was held on the Nintendo Wii when the weather was poor. Normally a staycation property is just a base, however The Old Forge was a huge part of our holiday. We've stayed here before so we knew how delightful the Old Forge is and we immediately felt a sense of calm and relaxation when we arrived; the usual welcome hamper and lovely flowers on the dining room table set the scene There were a couple of minor gripes about the central heating coming on in the middle of the night but only the temperature controls are available to tenants - not the frequency or duration - and a power cut that happened to the whole of Bashall Eaves caused the house alarm to beep continuously until we managed to get the access code from the housekeeper, but these were just little irritations and the central heating problem was resolved during our stay Overall we had a lovely time and am sure we'll be booking again

Amazingly well-equipped and spotlessly clean, it would say that 'It's just like home', but of course it's better than that because it's located in one of Britain's loveliest, quietest and least populated areas. There is simply nowhere to equal the Ribble Valley and the Bowland fells. Forget what other counties say, Lancashire has them all beat but we just don't shout about it like others do. (But I was born in Lancashire so there is a slight elemnet of bias in my opinions) Sykes is our favourite holiday operator having never provided anyhting less than excellent service during all of the years during which we have dealt with them. Extremely glad we got this cottage because it was perfect for us, so much so that we have already booked it again in September. It's very handy for local walks and for Pendle Hill with a great pub 200 yards walk away ( The Red Pump Inn ) as well as other great pubs/restaurants less than 6 miles away. Our only minor criticism is we would have liked more comfortable seating in the garden. Whilst the existing wooden furniture is very good and practical, it could have done with thick cushioned seats and backs to allow us to relax outside for longer periods. Apart from that, it was and is a wonderful find. Can't wait for September.

The property is surrounded by large, lawned gardens where you can dine in the sunshine when the weather is warm.

Inside, the rooms are filled with elegant antique furniture and shelves upon shelves of books, whilst the hallways are hung with wonderful portraits of the owner’s ancestors.

There are three beautifully-decorated bedrooms, the master of which has a splendid super king-size bed, a sitting area complete with winged armchair and chaise-lounge, and a wonderful en-suite shower and roll-top bath.

The second room has flexible zip/link beds with a large bright en-suite shower room.

There is a single four-poster in the third bedroom and downstairs, in the study, is a double sofa bed.

As well as the two en-suites, there is also a second bathroom on the first floor and a wet room downstairs.

The kitchen is amazing, with plenty of work surfaces, a double oven and a large fridge/freezer so you can stock up and enjoy cooking with delicious local produce, purchased from the local farm shop.

There is a woodburning stove in one corner and two dining tables; one in the centre of the kitchen and the other framed by windows on every side, providing lovely country views.

The sitting room has comfy seating set around an open fire and bookcases filled with interesting reads.

It also provides access to a study where you will find a sofa bed and a writing table - the perfect spot to pen your postcards home.

There is an excellent gastro pub a short walk up the road, where you can enjoy dinner or just visit for a drink without worrying about designating a driver home.

The location is perfect for walkers, so pull on your walking boots and climb Pendle Hill and Longridge Fell.

For the real adventurers, you can even trek to the centre of Great Britain at the famous Whitendale Hanging Stones.
