We could set off straight onto interesting walks, including to Cartmel, there were lots of birds on the feeders outside our windows including nuthatch and woodpeckers and the owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Even the car parking was very convenient. Brilliant!

  • "We had an excellent holiday."

The host was very polite and informative when we arrived but left us to ourselves unless we needed them. The cottage was so very nice and we felt at home. It is very well equipped with everything you need. The bed was super comfortable and very large. So much space in this cottage, not at all cramped. We will be coming back here at some point.

No passers by or traffic. Just the sound of birds . A true Shangri-la. Every mod con to hand. Karen and Martyn have thought of everything. Bedding, linen towels all spotless . The cottage was warm, relaxing and very cosy. We could not have chosen anything better. We will return one day and recommend it to our friend's and family

  • "The cottage was very well appointed and very clean."

A lovely welcome and helpful owners. The comfort of the sofa was very poor, the sofa isn't an actual sofa it is a number of seating cubes assembled into sofa, which is extremely uncomfortable and impacted on the comfort during our stay as you look forward to curling up and having some rest time during a cottage holiday. I notice previous reviewers have mentioned this on other booking sites. it is a shame that the owners don't consider investing in a new sofa given the rest of the property is very well appointed and comfortable e.g. the bedroom.

  • "The pictures do not do the lovely cottage justice."

Located in a beautiful tranquil location with lovely views of the Lake District countryside. Inside the cottage is clean, well maintained and quite luxurious. The bedroom is a real treat, large airy and a really nice bathroom too. The one downside of the stay was the sofa, it’s not the most comfortable and really could do with being replaced, but that didn’t detract from an otherwise lovely stay and as we had amazing weather I preferred sitting outside on the little patio in the sun having breakfast, lunch and dinner or just a cup of tea! The outside space is lovely and our dog loved the paddock where she could run around freely and have a lovely time sniffing. There is also a nice walk to Cartmel where you can get some yummy sticky toffee pudding or easily find somewhere for lunch or dinner. It’s a short drive to Windermere or grange over sands. In summary a perfect little place to stay.

Karen was great, answering all of our questions and was always available to help us. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived. The cottage has everything you could need, is spacious and feels like a complete getaway. Karen and Martin provided us with their favourite route maps in the local area around Cartmel as well as an excellent walk up Pike of Blisco which had fantastic views. We will most certainly be recommending Kestrel to our friends, we couldn't have been happier seeing in the New Year here.
