  • "We had a marvellous stay at this property and very much hope to stay there again whenever we are in the area."

Our hostess was very obliging and responded quickly to our messages. Having the One-Stop the other side of the road was a major plus. Didn’t really have to shop anywhere else. Very comfortable bed and living room furnishings.

The property

This contemporary, ground-floor apartment rests in the charming village of Billinge, in the scenic county of Lancashire.

Set in a residential area, Mayfair is a great choice for families and couples looking to explore the attractions of North West England.

The open-plan living space is sure to be the social hub of the property; allow the chef of the group to get acquainted in the kitchen, appointed with all the necessary appliances for a sufficient self-catered stay, while a plush sofa and Smart TV offers a lovely spot for some down time.

After a filling feast, sit out in the enclosed garden as you catch the last of the evening sun.

Freshen up with a shower before taking comfort in the master bedroom, home to a king-size bed, while there is also a double room.

If you don’t fancy cooking one evening, within a mile there are a number of excellent pubs and restaurants to sample, including The Holts Arms with its outside seating area overlooking the bowling green, The Hare & Hounds, Robin Hood pub, The Billinge Arms, the Indian restaurant of Babar Elephant At Billinge and the Italian restaurant of Bellini’s.

Why not hike up the nearby Billinge Hill, or venture to Billinge Water Park, where a cafe and ice cream bar can be found; alternatively, you can embark on a short walk to Orrell Water Park where fishing can be enjoyed?

Be sure to visit Greenslate Farm, too, a lovely farm shop and straw bale cafe, as well as being home to a range of animals, including goats, chickens, donkeys and guinea pigs.

The Morpheus Glass Shop is a short drive away and home to locally designed, hand-crafted glass, as well as hosting a cafe; additionally, a fantastic farm shop, Windy Harbour, and a local butchers’ can also be found nearby.

For days out, book a thrilling karting experience at the Three Sisters Circuit, take on outdoor adventure challenges at Scotman’s Flash Activity Centre or enjoy an afternoon tea cruise aboard the Kittywake Canal, so there is sure to be something for everyone.

Alternatively, take a short drive into the larger town of Wigan for a selection of museums to while the day away, find a picnic spot in Mesnes Park, or why not head to Wigan Roller Rink for a fun-filled evening?

Just a short drive away is the famous Haydock Racecourse, for anyone looking for a fun day out at the races, they also often run family days for a great day out with the kids!

Spend some time in St Helens, where The World of Glass Museum and The North West Museum of Road Transport are bound to keep you entertained for the day!

If exploration takes you further afield, the maritime city of Liverpool should be visited, famous for its cultural and sporting heritage, as well as offering an eclectic range of shops, bars, restaurants and hotels, plus plenty of theatres and concert venues for live performances.

If that’s not enough, the cities of Chester and Manchester are easily accessible by car or train, so there’s plenty to fill your holiday itinerary while staying at Mayfair!
