  • "The cottage was beautiful."

High quality bedding, furniture, cooking equipment etc a great stay. I would like to say that the cottage would need a good dusting and better lighting in the living room area. This didn’t take away from our stay but at £1300 plus for the week I’d expect no cobwebs, dusty corners or dusty skirting boards. Still a nice cottage though.

  • "Cottage was well equipped with very comfy beds, comfy bath and plenty of hot water."

Beautiful views and peaceful setting. Issue with access to back patio sorted. But took Sykes four days to respond to my email sent on the day we arrived. Totally unacceptable and I found the attitude of staff when spoke over the phone very unhelpful and unsatisfactory and is why I would find it hard to recommend Sykes. Unfortunately Lakelovers is now part of Sykes so I will probably have to use again. Let’s hope you take heed of my comments.

  • "Beautiful cottage in a stunning location badly let down by owner and Sykes not listening to previous feedback regarding bath panel."

I myself asked for this to be checked prior to our stay and was assured it had been however it hadn’t and due to shower screen needing replacing water subsequently dripped down the bath panel and through the living room ceiling! This was despite us doing our best to try and prevent this happening with cloths and bath mats! Reported to the owner through the week no response received - rude!

  • "First impressions the cottage is beautiful, however the cleaning of the cottage was awful."

Cobwebs everywhere, dusty to the point I could write my name on the TV stand. The stairs were also filthy and needed a good vacuum. The bathroom was horrible smelt damp and of urine. The side of the bath is coming away and very wet.The shower screen leaks also which then dripped water into the living room below. The sofa in the living room is most uncomfortable with no back support after a long day out.

  • "A beautiful cottage with high quality furnishings and appliances."

The kitchen was well equipped and the toiletries in the bathroom were a lovely surprise. The garden is well maintained and a good space for a quick wee for the dogs although our youngest managed to escape into next door’s! The cottage is located on a quiet lane yet only a ten minute walk to the nearest pub and shop. We had a lovely time there and would highly recommend.

  • "Dangerous! I would hope the owners would respond to this but these are the facts - The steps leading to the rear of the cottage are extremely dangerous to the point where my wife fell and hurt herself."

You have no option but to navigate these as the key safe is at the rear. The rear courtyard and the steps are so green it is almost impossible to stand up and again we both slipped on this. The steps are also very steep and no handrails. At the time of our visit there were also no outside lights meaning we had to use torches which were supplied by the cottage as they informed us they were aware the outside lights weren’t working. At night there is absolutely no light at all other than torch light. We had no hot water for two days meaning we had to have cold showers and the children had to have cold baths at the end of October! The fire alarm in the front bedroom went off every few hours keeping us and 2 young children awake all night. We contacted Sykes and Sykes have been very communicative, however the owners are not interested and have offered no solution. We also emailed the contact details supplied in the cottage but we did not receive a response. We have Sykes/the owners the option to resolve the issues before submitting this review. Would definitely not recommend and we certainly won’t be returning. Think long and hard before you book this cottage.

  • "A delightful cottage 10 minutes drive from Ambleside in the quiet hamlet of Skelworth Fold."

Comfortable, well presented, and equipped. Good parking opposite with the benefit of a pleasant garden. 30 metres from the front door is a viewing point with a stunning panorama. Recommended.

  • "Beautiful cottage, great location."

Needs more attention to detail, thus had to go over the floor & behind doors to clean dust/bits/dog hairs upon arrival. Front door Yale lock didn’t work, so only accessible via rear. No cleaning products or welcome pack left out. Communicated these issues with owner, who did say said items had been forgotten. Does need more basic drinking glasses, but apart from that we had a wonderful stay and would return.
