  • "I am not sure we want to give a positive feedback , It was the best cottage we have stayed in and we have stayed in quite a few over the years and would love to come back here as soon as we can and are reluctant to tell all review readers what an exceptional cottage this is."

We were concerned when reading the details that there was no open fire , are concerns were completely allayed the moment we stepped through the door , it was so warm and comfy and no fireplaces to clean at the end. The views from house and top of garden were exceptional, well worth a walk to the top at first light in the mornings . This was also the best cottage for our dog with lots of room to charge round the garden( would also love to know how the grass is cut on this slope?) If any reviewer can criticize this cottage we may suggest to them to find a hotel or stay at home . We will be back again

The property

"This elegant home enjoys a tranquil setting with magnificent views in every direction especially from the lounge, with a gable glass wall.

A sweeping driveway leads to Highbeck and Highbeck Cottage, with parking for two cars outside, within 3 acres of gardens and grounds.

Entrance hall with oak flooring and those fabulous views; on the ground floor the oak flooring leads into a dining room with stunning views and patio doors opening out to the gazebo, the gardens and grounds are shared.

The oak kitchen has everything you need and there is a rear porch ideal for walking gear.

A king-size bedroom on the ground level with en-suite shower room and the house bathroom with power shower over a bath.

Upstairs to a large landing area and access to the sumptuous lounge with gable end wall of glass enjoying the far-reaching views: a great place to unwind.

Also here is the second bedroom being either a super king size or twin.

Outside the grounds are delightful and with gazebo and furniture to gaze out at the scenery and enjoy al-fresco living - bliss!

Just a short stroll from the tranquil village of Crosthwaite, in the north of the Lyth Valley and only a short drive from Bowness and Lake Windermere.

The Lyth Valley is lush and laid back, full of picturesque walks and cycling routes and renowned as a peaceful landscape and renowned for its scattering of high-class country pub restaurants, one of which is your local: The Punchbowl Inn is one of the most widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs, nestling alongside a pretty old church.

The valley is set apart from Lake Windermere by a row of lower level fells, with plenty of space to climb up high and soak up stunning lake views.

You'll never be too far from attractions, evening entertainment and sophisticated shopping in Bowness village, with Windermere Golf Club also nearby.

From Bowness, Windermere Lake Cruises regularly depart to Ambleside and Lakeside.

About the location

CROSTHWAITE

Bowness-on-Windermere 5 miles; Kendal 6 miles.

Crosthwaite is a small village set in the picturesque Lyth Valley, famous for its damson trees, and boasts a lovely pub known nationally for its excellent food. The lakeside towns of Windermere and Bowness are nearby, with plenty of activities, interest and entertainment for all ages. Also within easy reach is the popular market town of Kendal, an historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping. Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden, are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay.
