  • "We had the most lovely week in Cornerways from September27th."

. The bungalow was spotless. Very roomy, and had everything you would need for a family holiday. Our little dog Teddy had the use of an enclosed garden which was well maitained by the very friendly owner. The village was so pretty and quiet. I met other villagers while out on my daily dog walk and they were also very friendly. Our weather was a mix of showers on some days and glorious sunshine on others. It is a perfect place to stay if visiting the Lake District. Although the Eden Valley was also absolutely beautiful. Thankyou so much. We loved it !!!

It had everything you needed for a week away and an enclosed garden area is a real plus for those of us who bring our four-legged friend. We had lovely visits to Lowther House and Gardens and Hutton in the Forest and not far away Gretna Green and The Devils Porridge Museum. Would I recommend Cornerways... yes without hesitation.

  • "We had a wonderful new year break at Cornerways, despite the terrible weather."

We had a problem with the heating on arrival but this was rectified very quickly by Gavin (co owner) and the house was warm and snug, plenty of hot water. One or two things need addressing - the lack of a light in the fridge was a nuisance, and the extremely low wattage bulb in the second bedroom meant it was impossible to read in bed. We’d have liked a cafetière for our coffee, and maybe some more small tumblers. The dishwasher is showing its age and it’s lost a couple of wheels on the lower rack. But these are really minor gripes, this is a very clean, comfortable holiday home, well located for reaching other parts of the Eden Valley. It was great having an enclosed back garden for the dogs. We were sorry that the local pub is no longer serving food. We had a great dinner out at the White Horse Inn at Kings Meaburn. Definitely a property to recommend.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Cornerways and for your feedback. I have replaced the lamp in second bedroom as I’d already replaced the bulb due to someone else mentioning this and it turned out to be a fault with the lamp. New fridge on order as the light won’t repair and new racks coming for the dishwasher. Thank you for bringing these to my attention. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

Very well equipped - even had Netflix! Secluded rear garden with patio furniture. Everyone in the neighbourhood seemed to know the owners - even in Pooley Bridge ( one of the ladies in the shop there lives next door to them!) Only one small thing, which is easily remedied - there is a street light right outside the front bedroom window which shines all night and, even with blinds closed and curtains drawn, made the bedroom very light and woke us several times the first night until we managed to black it out. Maybe thicker, blackout curtains would stop the problem. It may not bother some people but we are used to a dark bedroom. A great stay.

  • "Cornerways is outstanding."

We loved staying in this beautiful, warm and welcoming bungalow. It was so homely, really clean and has some fantastic features. Every room is immaculate and has been designed beautifully. The owners couldn't of done anything more to help from before our arrival during our stay and after our departure we felt so welcome and we were reassured that nothing was too much. These people really do go above and beyond. Thank you so much. I would highly recommend this place, we have certainly created great memories here. We will be back for sure!

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
