"Perfect holiday cottage."
Very comfortable with all possible amenities. Superb views both back and front, with many lovely walks from the doorstep. The only very minor comment would be that a little more lighting in the kitchen would be advantageous, but not a problem at all. Definitely hope to return!
Many thanks for the feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We'll be looking to address the lighting in the kitchen. Property Owner

"Sunbeam Cottage is a cosy comfortable cottage with all the necessary facilities to have an enjoyable stay."
It's an easy walk into the centre of Coniston with three easy access walking routes. The garden is very well kept with a comfortable patio set to enjoy the garden and views. The Ship pub is only a few minutes walk away if you've had along day out and don't have the energy to do the 10 - 15 minute walk into the village. All in all, well worth a stay.
-
"Very comfortable and well appointed cottage, good shower and comfortable bed."
Kitchen is well equipped and has everything apart from scales to cook a decent meal. Ideal location for walks from the doorstep. Local pub 5 minute walk away serving food. Coniston itself is a 15 minute walk away with a variety of places to eat.

"Sunbeam cottage is a lovely property in a stunning area of the Lakes."
This was our second time staying and we couldn't fault it. The owners are very friendly and dealt with a problem we had with the washing machine quickly. The property was really clean, beds are very comfy and the kitchen is well equipped, which is important to us as we cook each evening. We will definately be returning again to Sunbeam Cottage.

"Great cosy accommodation with lots of character."
Good location for local walks from the cottage (did Coniston Old Man range and Tarn Hows car-free), plus short walk to The Ship and 15 min walk to Coniston Village. Well equipped for self-catering. Recommended for a quiet relaxing stay.
-
"A pretty cottage, well equipped kitchen, great view from the bathroom and a pleasant stroll into Coniston."
However I think there should have been a warning that this cottage might not be ideal for an older person and it certainly wouldn’t be if you had any mobility issues. The stairs are steep, the bath with shower over unusually high and the parking most inconvenient. It was impossible to park the car next to the cottage, even to unload, due to the regular traffic past the cottage and down to the camp site. Slotting the car behind the cattle grid we could manage but having to carry the luggage right round while avoiding the sheep droppings and the passing cars was not fun. Nor was having to access the car in the dark. There was also a strong and very unpleasant smell (possibly some sort of disinfectant) in the porch which persisted all week despite keeping the door open. It took us a couple of days to rid the cottage itself of the smell. I hesitated to write such a negative review since we have stayed in many Sykes cottages over the years and been very happy. However this was a disappointment.

"We had a fantastic stay and would happily stay again, the location is spot on and the cottage stocked with everything you need."
Loved the garden and wish we had been able to sit in it more often. Had a lovely log fire each evening. Just a quick point which has been highlighted by others , is the tiny step into the lounge, it can catch you out with numerous stubbed toes if you aren't a person who wears slippers

"Lovely cottage with lovely views."
The kitchen had everything you need and more, the dining table extends, perfect for an evening of board games and the lounge sofas were comfy. Plenty of storage space both upstairs and down and there was ample room in the porch for muddy walking boots. The garden was lovely to sit in and watch the birds at the feeder and we enjoyed watching the sheep playing around, on an evening, from the kitchen window. Short stroll into Coniston by the lakeside . Will gladly holiday at Sunbeam Cottage again

"Lovely cozy cottage in a perfect location just outside Coniston."
Spotlessly clean and plenty of character but with all the home comforts. Lovely garden, enjoyed watching the birds at the bird feeder. Highlight was the sheep watching us cook on an evening through the kitchen window. Would love to come back in the autumn.

"A cosy well appointed Cottage, lovely Garden We watched the Midsummer sunset over Coniston old Man from the Garden."
Would love to stay at Sunbeam cottage again !

"The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable with lovely views."

"A lovely cottage in a great spot, with a short walk to both the lake and the pubs and a lovely sunny garden."
-
"We had a good week in the cottage which was well equipped and quaint."
Very much enjoyed the wonderful view over Coniston Water from the bathroom and the Herdwick sheep from the kitchen. The garden was also nice although it was a bit chilly in the evening, I’d expect that in May. Good location to explore the area so would definitely recommend.
-
"Very comfortable, well equipped."
Parking slightly difficult but manageable. We loved the position and the view from upstairs, the bike shed and the garden. Would definitely return

"Sunbeam Cottage is in an Idyllic Setting, the Views all around are of Classic Lakeland Fells& Mountains."
.with Coniston Water... literally a Stones throw away... The village is a 15 -20 Minutes walk away, were there is a selection of places to Eat ( if you want to eat out one or Two Evenings) there is a small Co-op where you can easily re stock if you need ... Many Classic Lakeland Walks, can be started from the village or the cottage... You can choose high or Low Level, and return to the Beautiful Rustic charm of Sunbeam... We had a week in Early May, such a Beautiful Time of year, Lots of Lamb's, Cherry Blossoms, Bluebells it's just a Gorgeous Experience... The Cottage is Very well Equipped, Especially the Kitchen... Washing machine, Beautiful small Garden,

"We had a lovely stay at Sunbeam cottage, it was very cosy to come back to after walks during the week of snow and rain we had, but it didn't stop us getting out to see some of the beautiful area around."
The kitchen is probably the best equipped we've come across with full size fridge/freezer and the bathroom has an excellent shower and bath with plenty of hot water. Beautiful views all around and ample parking to the rear of the cottage, easily accessed. Just watch out for the sheep...! We also used some of the bird seed left for us to top up the feeders in the garden, the birds appreciated it greatly... I would definitely recommend a visit, we shall come back again I'm sure.
We are so glad you enjoyed the cottage. Its great to see the birds feeding in the garden Property Owner

"Great cottage in a lovely location near Coniston Water, nice walks from the door, pubs and shops just up the road no need to use the car, cottage has everything you need ,we stayed in November and the cottage was nice and cosy especially when we lit the fire."
Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased you found the cottage nice and cosy. We also love sitting by the fire in the winter..... Property Owner

-
"Fabulous cottage to stay in, would highly recommend."
The best stocked kitchen I’ve experienced which is important as we eat in and enjoy cooking. The view is lovely and sheep come right up to the kitchen window. Only a short walk of 5 mins to Coniston shore. So many walks and cycle rides directly from the cottage that there is no need to use your car all week. Parking is no issue as the car is easily tucked into a grassed area behind the cattle grid right outside the cottage with still sufficient space for the footpath gate to be opened by walkers. The cottage has very well thought out details, the large shed for bikes a bonus, a very well maintained garden with family table. It’s also very warm. The central heating only needs to be on for an hour or so then can be turned back down again as thick walls mean it retains heat well. Thankyou to the owners for a lovely week’s break.
We are happy that you enjoyed your time at Sunbeam Cottage. Many thanks for your comments. Property Owner

"Cobwebs everywhere, bins needed a clean, only 1 partly used toilet roll left, ..."
Cobwebs everywhere, bins needed a clean, only 1 partly used toilet roll left, some areas dusty, cleanliness let the property down, all other aspects super, parking for 2 cars optimistic though
Thank you for your comments David . The cleaners are instructed to leave two rolls of toilet paper for every let. they may have stored in a kitchen cupboard or in the bathroom cabinet I'm sorry your were unable to locate them. Apologies for the cobwebs I will let the housekeeper know of your observations. I agree that the bins were full. The pervious holiday makers never put them out for emptying. I personally took the rubbish away on the Saturday morning you left and cleaned the bins with Jeyes Fluid disinfectant. Also we wish to thank- you for the excellent report you left in the comment book at the cottage. I'm please that the observations above did not spoil your visit to Sunbeam cottage. We would encourage all holiday makers to contact us during the visit if you find anything your not happy with. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE WITH REGREATS it your holiday will endeavour to make sure your stay is pleasurable. Property Owner

"We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage."
It was very quaint and we loved the garden. It looked nice and welcoming and there were good views of Coniston Old Man and Coniston Water. The garden was very spacious and the tables and chairs were just how we wanted. Thank you
-
"This is the second stay at Sunbeam because last time was lovely so we came back and the house was perfect."
We enjoyed sitting out in the garden in the sun. We could walk down the road to the village and we did Old Man Coniston from the house and finished at the Ship Inn for a nice meal. Thank you very much for a fantastic stay!

"We as a family loved our weeks stay at Sunbeam Cottage."
It felt like a home away from home. Wish we could take our new friends 'sheep' home with us. They always greeted me at the kitchen window on a morning, lovely! Lots of postives, well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, great shower and easy parking to name a few!

"Had to press reset nearly every morning before we could get any hot water."
One bath towel not sufficient for a week and too small.
Thank you for your feedback, I'm very disheartened that there was a fault with the boiler and we were never contacted, we would of helped you the best we could to get this fixed. In terms of the Towels, for each holiday let 8 clean towels are left at the property, 4 bath towels are left on the beds. 4 are left in the draws it looks like the towels left in the draws were not found. We have checked with Lakelovers, all holiday properties are let with one bath towel and one hand towel. Had you made us aware that you were unhappy during your holiday regarding the towels. We would have resolved the issue. Please could all holiday makers make Lakelovers aware if you have any issues with the property. We will make sure they are dealt with. "We had such a lovely time at Sunbeam Cottage, we didn't want to leave!"
The cottage has so much character, plus some absolutely gorgeous views - nearly my favourite thing was going to the kitchen sink and seeing a lamb peering in the window. The garden was a lovely extra too, and I very much enjoyed putting out bird seed and watching the sparrows, greenfinches etc popping in for a visit. Coniston itself is perfect: three good pubs (the Black Bull in particular has great food and friendly staff) a couple of decent shops including one with a proper butchers up the back, and loads of spectacular walks. Neither of us were quite up to walking up the Old Man of Coniston but it's our ambition to do it next year... Thank you for an excellent week. My only request would be the inclusion of a couple of courtesy items, like a roll of toilet paper, a pint of milk etc, just so you don't have to immediately go to the shops when you get there. And I think the key box might need replacing or at least some WD40 - very tricky to open!
-
"Lovely cottage and location."
We all loved our holiday and the amazing walks and views, my son loved feeding the birds. The roll top bath was amazing after a long day of walks
-
"Lovely cosy cottage with gorgeous garden."
All we needed for a wonderful stay. Thankyou.
-
"Another wonderful stay in our favourite holiday home."
-
"Wonderful stay and wonderful cottage."
Like the bike shed . Mostly clean but quite a few cobwebs hanging - not a big problem. Also would recommend heating be switched on prior to arrival to warm the place up, and first bag of logs and kindling supplied?
Many thanks for your feed back. The heating automatically comes on at 2pm for a 5pm entry. You have brought our attention that the Central Heating clock needs resetting due to the recent storms we had a power cut. This will be rectified. We will review the practicalities of the logs and kindling. However, the local garage/spar 5 minutes from cottage in car store always has plenty. Property Owner

"We stayed during covid so I took my own cleaning equipment so i could make sure it was thoroughly cleansed before we moved in as I took my 83 yr old mother."
When i moved the furniture to clean it hadn't been cleaned for some time by the look of the dirt. Parking, in the description it says there is a parking place infront of the cottage. What it doesn't say is that it is in a field with sheep. We were in our new Mercedes, every day there was mud all up the sides and front of it from the sheep around it on a night. There were also muddy footprints allover the bonnet and roof I'm assuming that was cats. We didn't get off to the best start. The cottage is very comfortable and in a great location for the lake and walking. The garden is a bonus but on the one day we wanted to use it the paths were covered with ants and flying ants. The stairs are steep. The roll top bath is fabulous looking over the lake but my mother couldn't used the bath or the shower above as there's nothing to hold on to. My mother lives on her own and is very sprightly but the stairs and bath would have definitely been a deciding factor in choosing this accommodation had we known in advance, we wouldn't have chosen it. We would go back again without my mother if the parking wasn't with the sheep as we love coniston and this cottage is in a great location.
We would like to thank Ms Manning for the kind comments she found the very comfortable in a great location. As owners, we have extensive experience of taking elderly relatives on holiday. Had you let us know in advance or made contacted you during your holiday that you were/had an elderly relative at the property we could have made your visit more relaxing and less stressful for you and mum. After receiving your comments my wife has pulled out the sofa, beds and wardrobes and cleaned the spaces behind. We are reviewing all of your other comments. We also do not find the stairs steep or had comments on this but sorry your mum found them to be. In terms of parking, Sunbeam Cottage backs onto National Trust land that rolls down to Coniston lake, its an area of natural beauty. There is a purpose made hard standing for two medium cars. On rare occasions the National Trust farmer has sheep/lambs on the land this would depend on the time of the year. We have been letting Sunbeam Cottage since 1997 the sheep/lambs have not caused damage to any car. Normally the Sheep/lambs do not come anywhere near the property there is a natural banking that deters them. On the rare occasion we have experienced a few smudges cause by the rubbing of a lambs nose. We would suggest that this is what Ms Manning described as mud. The marks on the roof/bonnet were not caused by the sheep. Most Holidaymakers especially children, love to watch the sheep/lambs playing on the land. We do have empathy in respect that Ms Manning brought a new Mercedes to the cottage and her nervousness. Parking for 10/15 cars is also available near the church about 2 minute walk away from the cottage. The present parking arrangement is fine. We hope to see you again also, please let us know through Lakelovers if you do, we will make sure your experience meets your requirements next time. Please send our kind regards to mum. "This cottage is in an idyllic location with a lovely and well tended garden."
However, several issues need addressing. The cottage had mice throughout - even inside the kitchen cupboard where our food was kept. We reported this to Lake Lovers during our stay. The cottage is also damp - damp patches on sitting room wall with peeling wallpaper. I rang the week before we arrived to request the cot and high chair. It was then disappointing to find them under the bed upstairs when we arrived. The cot was covered in dust and the high chair was filthy. In general, the cottage is tired and dated and in need of a refresh. Washed out bedlinen and mismatching towels should be replaced. There are a lot of or ornaments and breakables which make the cottage feel cluttered. The kitchen is well equipped but there is far too much crockery for a house that sleeps 4 leaving no proper cupboard space for storing food.
We would like to apologise to Dr Walsh in having not met his expectations. Having mice in the property is unacceptable. I can say within one hour of reporting this issue a local pest control company was engaged at the property the issue was resolved. There have been no further sightings. The highchair being unclean was also unacceptable. We would challenge the other issues, the bedding is from Dunelm and is Dorma the towels have been purposely mixed in colors (one colored set/person) each person can identify their towels, (Covid measure). There is no damp in the cottage. We have discussed the remaining issues with the housekeeper and Lakelovers and have revisited on a point by point basis, adjustments have been made. We endeavor to meet all our holiday makers expectations. For future bookings, if any holidaymaker requires the use of the cot and high chair please advise Lakelovers. The housekeeper will make sure it is clean and ready for your visit. I would like to thank Dr Walsh for his comments regarding the idyllic location and lovely tendered garden. Property Owner

"A wonderful week lovely to be back at Sunbeam cottage again its our third stay here."
Feels like home from home. It was lovely to sit in the garden enjoying the early evening sunshine with a cold beer. The village was busy this week so much nicer to enjoy the surroundings here rather than in crowed places. Enjoyed walking from the door plus sailing and lake swimming.
-
"Excellent cottage in a fantastic place."
There did seem to be everything that we needed in the cottage - items such as waste bags and dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, washing up items that we have had to supply our own in past cottage holidays. Only one small issue that we had was that there were mice in the cottage, my wife noticed one in the dining room on the Tuesday, and my daughter saw one the following day in the living room - didn't really bother us to be honest as I would kind of expect this in such a cottage in a countryside location, but may bother other guests.
-
"The location of Sunbeam cottage is stunning."
It's perfect for accessing the area but positioned well enough to walk to the lake, mountain, shops or pub. Parking for one car is very useful and garden is lovely to be able to sit in.
-

"Location of the Cottage is perfect."
Cosy well equipped cottage everything we needed. We enjoyed the garden. Lots of lovely walks from the cottage. Took the Gondola tour and had a lovely day out at Brantwood house. Sad to be leaving and will definitely miss the sheep.

"The location is just fantastic, the photos do not do it justice."
Waking up to that view and seeing the sheep right outside the window is heavenly. There is a lovely off road short walk to the village. The cottage is cosy and has everything you need, it is very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed playing in the garden and going on walks around the lakes.
-

"This cottage is located in a really lovely spot."
It is peaceful with great views of Coniston Water and of Coniston Old Man. We are keen walkers and were able to avoid using the car almost entirely. A holiday is intended to be a restorative, our holiday was exactly that.

It featured in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, and was of course where Donald Campbell met his untimely end during his water speed record attempt in 'Bluebird'. If you’re looking for breathtaking surroundings; dramatic fells including Coniston Old Man, wild woodlands and wonderful Lake District walks, Coniston is a great place to be.
The village centre is well equipped for stocking up the kitchen with traditional butcher and supermarket, lovely tea rooms, cafes and traditional Lakeland pubs - the Black Bull Inn is well worth a visit for its award-winning brewery the Coniston Brewing Co. For a cultured day out, head to Brantwood historic house - an impressive residence overlooking the lake, once home to John Ruskin, where you’ll find a range of events such as talks, concerts, craft workshops and even outdoor theatre, as well as lovely grounds to wander in.
