  • "Lovely little cottage, very cosy with the log burner lit and had everything there you needed."

One thing I didn’t enjoy but this is Sykes, not the owners. I woke up the day before we were due to leave to an email reminding me of the checkout procedure. Firstly it made me check our departure date and secondly didn’t want to be reminded when we still had a full day and night of holiday left :( The night before would have be better or not at all as in my mind, not necessary.

The grounds are in a really well maintained. The cottages are in close proximity to each other however there is still a lot of privacy. The cottage itself was perfect for what we wanted. There was gorgeous views of the hills beyond the hot tub. Everything you required was within the cottage such as cooking equipment, glasses, plates etc. 15 minute walk down to Bowness, this is on a hill so bare in mind. £6 for a taxi back to the room which was good. Overall, we loved it and will definitely come back.

We are out every evening but there are plenty of contacts in the information book for takeaway if having a night in .Sarah came to see us when checking in to see if all was ok . Take your own towels for the hot tub use we did ask for another general towel each - this was sorted straight away .Takes about 25 mins to walk to Bowness pier we did use taxis for returning later , no issues they were always available . As with a lot of the roads locally there are no pavements . We will definitely be returning.

  • "Absolutely loved spending a few days at Acorn Cottage to celebrate a birthday."

20 minutes walk out of the hustle and bustle of Bowness, but close enough to still enjoy it (although we always got a taxi home!) We would definitely consider going back to Acorn and the wider Oaks Estate. The only small things that we would suggest improvements on would be the kitchen lighting. When switched on, the extractor fan comes on too, which is great, but is quite loud. Some additional under cupboard lighting may benefit from having a small amount of light in the kitchen without the need for the extractor fan. And the roof light above the shower - we were unable to open this or lower the blind on all attempts over the break. It might be that we were trying to do it on the wrong angle with the pole, or whether this needs some attention.

Dear Mandy, It's great to hear your feedback - thank you! We will look into all the things you mention above, and really hope we see you again for another visit soon - it's so important that you have a great stay with us here and have fond memories to look back on. The view from the balcony and hot tub were beautiful. Few little welcome gifts which was a lovely touch! I was emailed by the manager on the day of arrival to tell us our accommodation had been cleaned and was available earlier for us to check in which was a bonus! It took 20-25 mins to walk into Bowness, nice easy walk down hill, the initial part was walking on the road but not particularly busy, then paths most of the way. I wouldn’t risk walking in the dark so we got a taxi back on 2 occasions costing £4 which we thought was a bargain! Would definitely recommend staying here and return however noticed to rebook next year cost significantly more which is a shame!

Great location but quite a walk into Bowness and mostly with no pavement, you can get taxis though. • "Acorn is a little cracker!"

The accommodation is lovely. The high level beams were a bit dusty with cobwebs but the apart from this, the property was extremely clean. The sofa has a few stains on but very comfy. The bed was soft and comfy. Externally, from the balcony, you have uninterrupted views across farmland and to the hills. The only downside of the hot tub is the way the lid raises blotting out some of the view and if swivelled 180 degrees, you would get a better view when in the hot tub. As much as we loved the property, we probably won't return due to the traffic on the mile or so walk into Bowness. We like a pleasant walk of about a mile onto a bus route but we had to use taxis in and out of Bowness as the walk is mostly on quite busy roads without pavements meaning you are taking your life into your own hands. If you don't mind driving, this is one of the nicest locations I've stayed.

I will say just to be picky that the boiler clicked overnight and the gate creaked every now and then, but didn’t turn me off the place it’s no fault of them, also if it’s raining it is very loud on the windows but again no fault of the place. Also take into account the walk into town is easy and quick about 20 mins but on the way up it’s all up hill which gets hard to do after a while and there are no footpaths for all the route so just be aware at night time have a torch on hand or sensible clothing :)

Sending ample information prior to arriving (even meaning I could order and get delivered a birthday cake for my husband to be there when we arrived). 3 miles. The listing is incorrect. The hotel close by is closed for the foreseeable future. Did not like that there was no door on the toilet - in fact it is all essentially one room with walls part way which means you can hear and smell your loved one on the toilet!

Thank your for taking the time to give us feedback. Our listing states that there is pub/Shop less than 1 mile away, which there is. The hotel next door, as well as many other places in the local area close for some days and weeks in the lower season shut down to either give staff a break or because it is not viable for them to be open because there are less tourist around. The open plan living is not to everyones taste, we quite like it but we will ensure our photos are updated soon to show this to future guests. Property Owner

The property is very private with beautiful views over the countryside and the cows in the fields, and was the perfect romantic break. The hot tub was situated on the deck, which was incredible to sit with our drinks, looking out to those spectacular views. The bed was so comfortable and cosy (we were there is September) and the property has everything you need, even a hairdryer. The only warning I would give is that the walls between the bathroom and the bedroom don't go all the way to the roof so there is a gap at the top. It wasn't a problem for us as one of us went to the kitchen (which is away from the bathroom and down some steps) if we needed more privacy. We loved every minute of our holiday and we will definitely go back again.

The view out on the balcony is amazing! We were luckily enough to even see, what we believe, a buzzard! Which was a magical sight. The cottage itself is open plan, with walls being used as a divider, it is very airy and cosy. It was extremely clean, and a folder was left with instructions for everything and also details for attractions and walks. The site is also great, plenty of parking if you do need more than 1 space that comes with the cottage itself, and the site is peaceful, we were never disrupted by cars, or anything for that matter! It’s a great location, you can stay close to Windermere and Bowness - which has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. But it’s also a great location if you wish to travel further too. We would 100% stay here again, and we more than likely will! There are plenty of other accommodations on the site too, so if this doesn’t suit your needs, then I’m sure one of the others will.

I would recommend this as after a 4 hr journey it was nice to just get there and start enjoying our holiday without having to go shops straight away. It also had tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits for when we got there. The hot tub was lovely and clean and had such a lovely veiw which me and my husband enjoyed every day of been there and having sheep as our neighbours was great. We also enjoyed the lovely log fire esp as we went in the winter. The only thing I think the property could do with is some hooks around the place to hang things like coats or dressing gowns and a shoe rack would have been very handy. Just another thing to keep in mind there is no doors in the property separating any of the rooms including bathroom, luckily for us me and my husband don't mind but some couple's might not like that there isn't much privacy in the bathroom. In the published picture it definitely isn't clear, We had 2 nights of being kept awake till 3.00am by inconsiderate guests having parties. We chose this property for the peace and quiet, but was spoilt by next-door. After speaking to the caretaker, this was a common occurance as the property sleeps 25,and hen and stag parties book it, for this reason, reluctantly we wouldn't stay again. This is such a shame as the area and location are perfect, as is the Cottage.

Thank you so much for your comments. We do apologise that the location of the property was not made clearer, we have now amended this on the website. We are also sorry to hear that you were disturbed by other guests during your stay. We do ask all guests to be considerate of other holidaymakers in our terms and conditions so we are sorry that this wasn't adhered to on this occasion. The owners do have an on call number for guests to use to report problems straight away and this could have been used during your stay to alert the staff visiting the site each day. The cottage had everything we needed and felt welcomed from the start. Bowness isn’t far from the cottage with a 30 minute walk in but a 5 minute drive. If you get taxis I recommend Lakeside taxis as they did us a cheap fixed fair and were always on time and courteous. We were sad to leave but I wouldn’t hesitate going back there.

  • "This cottage was just perfect - Everywhere was spotless, bed was super comfy and the hot tub was just great after a day out walking."

We stayed during lambing season too, so got to watch the lambs play in the fields over the back of the cottage. The cottage is close to the village and your just a short drive from other areas of interest. Totally recommend 'The Brown Horse' pub just 5 mins up the road. Food was amazing!! The only thing missing from the cottage were coat hooks - did mention this as we left though, so hopefully they should be in soon :) Would most definitely return to this cottage.

  • "A brilliant little cottage in a great location."

It had everything we needed to have a relaxing week away. The views are incredible and we spent most of our week watching the sheep, lambs, birds and rabbits! A short walk into town which has plenty of things to do and places to eat. Agree with another reviewer who mentioned a lack of privacy though - the wall between the bathroom and bedroom isn’t a full wall so everything can be heard. Not a problem for us but would be if you weren’t as comfortable with your partner!

We were not overlooked and never saw another person the entire 4 days we were there. The cottage itself was just beautiful. It was well equipped with everything we needed and incredibly comfortable. We are already discussing booking again.

  • "Cottage is lovely!"

Very open plan - toilet is not very privet which could out some people off! The hot tub is lovely as is the rest of the cottage, everything was provided the only things missing were soap in the bathroom sink and an extra toilet roll! Apparat from the we could not fault it. Extra towels were provided for the hot tub. Views were lovely. Windows did start to leak a little in the heavy rain but it was only because the vents were open, once theses were shut it was fine. We would definitely stay here again! It was lovely and we had a great time.

  • "Acorn cottage is a wonderful place for a relaxing few days away."

The cottage is ultra modern but has maintained character and charm. Brilliant location only a mile from bowness and although there are other properties on the estate it still feels very private. The hot tub was wonderful, especially on a cold winter's night. I'm already looking at the bigger properties to come back with the whole family.
