  • "This was our second time staying in this apartment and we hoped it would be better than the first as the reviews were glowing and so we figured that our first stay was just an anomaly."

Unfortunately, our second stay was equally as problematic. The biggest issue was cleanliness, the problem being the place had not been cleaned besides some loo cleaner put down the toilet. I bought my own bedding in case the bed hadn't been changed (like the first time) and I'm so glad I did because the bed hadn't been changed, or if it had then the laundry services need reviewing. The sheets, didn't smell clean, feel clean or look clean, there were hairs (short and curlys) marks and stains. So after an 8 hour journey we changed the sheets, problem solved but not the nicest thing to deal with. Changing the bed takes a few minutes so I would expect it to be done before we arrived. The floor had no been hoovered or cleaned, there were clumps of dirt and hair on the rugs and crumbs and hair over the floor. My socks were filthy by the end of the week from walking on the floor. Anyway, we hoovered and cleaned the best we could but the hoover was very lackluster. The living room bin had been changed but there was an empty vape liquid container, no big deal but as we entered the apartment there was a smell of leftover food mixed with something and I'm guessing someone had been vaping in there prior to our arrival. A quick note on the smells, and this is not the property owners fault but just to bear in mind if booking this place - we smelt cigarette smoke and marijuana pretty much the whole time we were there and further odd smells, especially in the bedroom and the bathroom leading off from the bedroom which could have been from the alley outside. The bathrooms has not been cleaned besides some loo cleaner poured down them as they were bright blue. there were hairs in the sink, hairs on the floor and in the bath, the walls were dirty as were the skirting boards etc. It all just needed a deep clean. The kettle lid is broken which isn't the end of the world but on top of the cleanliness issues, it's all just rather shabby. The parking permit fee needs to be optional as we don't drive and it would be nice to save a bit of money by not having the permit. That's just a bit of feedback in general. The location of this apartment is brilliant, however. A bus stop right outside and waking distance to the lake and the station. This is why we stayed again. Also being able to have a bath after climbing mountains is lovely. All in all if the cleanliness issues are sorted and the place is actually properly cleaned with some touch ups to the facilities then this apartment would be amazing. It's just such a shame both our stays were not up to the standard that we assumed this place had. We'd love to stay again due to the location but we can't take another chance on the cleanliness.

I’m saddened by this review, if the flat wasn’t up to scratch( your opinion ) for your stay that you felt you had to write a large review when you could of messaged with your concerns and we could of sorted it asap whilst you were staying with us that’s why I passed on my mobile number for any queries or concerns before you arrived. • "Great position with Bowness, easy access to Lakes, shops, restaurants etc."

If you have mobility issues then this apartment is not for you. Steps to front door and then more stairs to property. Walking back from town is also up a steep hill. Inside the apartment is an adequate comfortable sized lounge with dining table. Kitchen is absolutely tiny and def only made for 1. Even opening oven door is an issue whilst standing in the kitchen. Lack of any sizeable worktop to prepare or serve food. No freezer space not even small top compartment. Big issue when staying for 7 nights. Fridge temperature did not get as cold as it should be, even when we turned it up. Complete apartment could do with a deep clean, I had to clean the draining board tray before use and could do with much bigger bin. No recycling facilities. Oven racks were dirty and had only fresh foil put in them. The bedroom again adequate size, the mattress was below the bed frame which made it painful when turning over, sitting on bed or getting out. New mattress required. Enough drawer space except very hard to open and some would not open at all. The wall behind the cupboard and the rest of the wall under the window even thought had been painted black were damp and covered in mould. The wall paper was peeling off due to the damp. Again steps in bathroom were a little small so had to walk up sideways. Ensuite was adequate, sink very small but good powerful shower. Plenty of hot water and instant heating when required. Parking permit was very welcome and a huge bonus. Wifi was good,

Thankyou for your feedback will have a look at some of the issues you have raised and address them Property Owner

  • "Property is lovely and furnished well - bed comfy and we slept well."

Sitting on the edge of the bed is a bit hard as think the mattress is sunken, but not a big deal. Appreciated the fan with it being so warm. We did have issues with the fridge - would not get cold and we had to buy ice for all our stuff. Owner has said when she went in after us it was cool and she was monitoring it. But it wasn't cold for our stay and if you were putting a lot of shopping in, I would just be careful. Owner has offered part refund but we are yet to receive this. House was clean overall but kitchen could use a deep clean in my opinion - hob and fan in particular. Property is in lovely location - 5 min walk to Windermere and lots of shops and places to eat. Property comes with parking pass for a car park opposite - it does get full and we managed to get lucky thankfully with being able to park. Did struggle slightly finding property (maybe just us!) but we'd suggest in the key collection info just stating what shop the property is located above - as it says it is down a lane and was more like a back street. Just a tad confusing in our opinion, but we did find after a few mins. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and was gutted to leave.

Perfect home in a perfect location. Gorgeous views, opposite the bus stop, few mins walk into Bowness, Felt safe being a solo female traveller. Spacious, warm, clean, everything you need (except no facility for frozen food, not a problem) The bed was so comfy, honestly wanted to bring it home! Small issue of bathroom light going and maintenance were on it straightaway. Can't wait to return! Big thank you to the owners.

Great central location if you’re looking to be close to all the bars, restaurants and shops etc that Bowness has to offer. It’s just a 5 or 10 minute walk down to the lake and there’s a bus stop just over the road if you’re heading to Windermere, Ambleside or Grasmere. The cinema is also just over the road. We didn’t use the parking permit as we found an on street parking space a few streets up which was just as close as the short stay car park. WiFi worked well too. Only complaint was the 9am check out time on departure which is earlier than most of the other places we stay and meant an early rise on our last day. Would definitely be happy to return though.

  • "Clean property."

Well placed in Bowness for shopping and even getting to the lake. Cinema almost directly across the road. Compact apartment as can be expected due to it being in the town. Property might be more of a challenge for older ones or any with infirmities due to the number of steps to enter the property. And once inside to reach the flat door. The bed being against the wall on one side made getting in and out an exercise of itself if the bed is shared. The mattress being sunken into a wooden frame a little unexpected if use to mattress coming to the end of bed. Having said this the front room was spacious and quite comfortable. Flat was warm. Good to have a full length bath and no problem with getting hot water. Although there is a permit that allows you to park almost across the road, it is not a long stay car park which is about half a mile away. Ironically though if you check the web for 'streets that you can park for free near you', you will be surprised how close they are!

Hi David ,I hope you enjoyed you stay at nutkins ,Thank you for your feedback, For the future guests I would like to clear up the issue of parking on quarry mount car park that is opposite to the apartment,The permit is a 24 hour permit , It can be used at the other carparks listed on the back of the permit also (Council confirmed today 2/06/23) Property Owner

Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as steps outside the property and stairs inside to apartment . Kitchen and bathroom were small but adequate - mattress on bed was very comfortable and sofa bed in lounge also very comfortable for relaxing in the evening but not suitable if made up to a double bed . The decor was modern and clean but squeaky floors a bit of a problem especially from the flat above especially at weekend . But overall a lovely little place to stay and hope to return. Apartment itself was as expected, cosy and comfortable, lovely bed, good facilities and nice view from the front. I would think it may be a bit cramped for four adults though, two adults absolutely fine and one or two children. It was great to have the parking permit included which you can use in quite a few car parks in the area and the office to collect it is just around the corner. Only slight complaint was that the heating was a bit of a pain, seemed like the only options were freezing cold or boiling hot, no thermostat to be seen and the hot water coming out the taps was scalding, not very safe for little ones. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay, thank you.

  • "We initially had trouble finding the cottage, as the sat nav just took us to the general area."

We could have done with better description of the whereabouts of the cottage from the Sykes office. We walked around looking for the place for over an hour and had to make 3 calls back to the office (one went to head office, where the girl had no local knowledge, one was unanswered and on the third we were given a description of how to get to the apartment). Simple directions like - it’s above the Mere gallery, go up the alley between that and the sports shop and it’s directly on the left -would have saved a lot of trouble as it wasn’t apparent from the main road where the apartment was. Once we eventually got in, we were very happy with the apartment. It was a good size and very comfortable with all the home comforts. All the local amenities were within a short walk away. We will definitely stay here again.

  • "The location of Nutkins was really good - right in the centre of Bowness-on-windermere near restaurants, cafes and shops."

This did however mean more traffic noise and we had restaurant workers making noise in the early mornings when they got home from work (from 1-3am which was really quite annoying). The apartment itself wasn’t as clean as I would expect...hair on bed and couch etc. The floor boards creeked throughout this entire apartment. Another annoyance was that the windows at the front did not open, so it was quite hot in the afternoons and there was no fan provided. It would have been nice if little things were provided such as hand soap and dishwashing liquid - we did not think to bring those things and it was a pain to have to go out and buy them. Overall we had a pleasant stay, but it definitely could have been better.
