  • "This cottage is absolutely stunning, everything in the cottage felt brand new."

It would have been nice to have a starter pack or just a few logs for the fire, the log burner was a massive part of our choice when booking!

  • "Fab property in a perfect location for Bowness facilities and a great base for the Lakes."

The property has all creature comforts to make the stay as easy as possible. If anything could be improved it’s perhaps seating arrangements for 4 adults in the lounge, the sofa and one chair are technically OK but a little squashed. Perhaps a large bean bag could be an option then it could be easily moved around without being too imposing/fixed as an item of furniture might. Some of the window openings could be fixed a little as ropes on sash window in front bed are not functioning properly. Fixing the front garden gate to replace missing slat and so that the gate can be locked closed, would definitely be more secure for dogs. These are details - overall everything is great.

The bed was huge and so comfortable. The cottage was clean bright and airy. My only criticism would be as a dog friendly cottage it would have been nice for the garden to be secure, it did express it wasn’t secure in the description so it’s not a complaint .

Although marketed as being able to accommodate 4 people, it really only has lounge space for 2 people. The TV downstairs did not work so I had to watch the TV in bed which was far from ideal. I did complain to the you but had no response.

Inside the house though was lovely, clean, bright and well appointed with big comfy beds, quality bedding and nice bathroom. The allocated parking space was VERY tight, two out of three of us couldn’t get the car in but the on street parking with the pass used. Oak Cottage is in a great location and a quiet area.

All as described and perfect for our needs in a great location. In terms of improvements, the bathroom needs a new blind as it has mould growth not in keeping with the rest of a very clean property. The twin bedroom blind has a broken cord which while still operable needs a fix.

  • "One drawback was that the windows in master bedroom at front of house did not open at all."

They are either painted closed or the cable in the sash window was broken. In the heat last week it was very warm and uncomfortable at night. Perhaps provide a fan? Minor points, (i) some of the vertical blinds in the sitting room need repairing, they were out of their connection cables at the bottom when we arrived.;(ii) the outdoor motion sensor night-lighting on front of house didn’t work; (iii) faster internet connection would be a bonus; (iv) provide some ice cube trays in freezer. We appreciated the kitchen care pack and otherwise we really really love the property, it’s perfectly located and perfect size for 2-4 people.

It benefits from an en suite shower room and house bathroom all recently installed to a high standard. Modern spacious kitchen with dining table, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Access to front door via steps with outdoor seating/dining, split level secure garden and parking space for small car. Wooden gate to steps in need of minor repair. Mainly used back door to enter and exit the property via a small paved yard fenced and gated. Selection of board games in comfortable lounge. I would recommend this cottage to others.

  • "Lovely house, very clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our week's stay."

Unfortunately it was exceptionally hot when we arrived and the house took a long time to cool down, likely because we couldn't open all of the windows to let air in overnight which would've helped to cool us all down. Could do with another sofa in the living room as it would be a tight squeeze if there were 4 adults in the room. Aside from that, the cottage is really lovely and we would recommend it, ideal location and really well kept cottage.

  • "On arrival the cottage was spotlessly clean."

Small welcome cleaning pack provided (dishwasher tablets, sponge, bin bag). Steps down to property one slab broken and one wobbly so be careful. Street is unlit and outside light doesn’t pick you up until half way down steps so take a torch (one provided in cottage). Living room would benefit from another sofa or chair (one sofa and one tub chair really isn’t enough for four adults visiting unless you all want to be sat on top of one another). Some damp under window which needs addressing. Wooden floor. No logs supplied for wood burner. Kitchen is large and well stocked with everything you could need. Little extras like salt, washing up liquid etc are provided. Tiled floor which means cold feet. Beds are super comfy and both are super king sized. Bathrooms are well thought out and Mira showers to both which are wonderfully powerful. Hive heating so you can program to suit yourself/weather conditions. However, please note that all windows are single glazed sash windows which means in winter they are very draughty and both front and back doors are wooden and single glazed so again very draughty. (Draught excluders for the doors would be a welcome benefit as feet were cold when downstairs and possibly thermal door curtains). We were unlucky with the weather (coldest week in uk of the year) so left early as was struggling with keeping cottage warm downstairs and also building work was taking place directly opposite cottage which meant an early wake up call by builders and mini digger most mornings (Lakelovers/Sykes notified by us and photos sent). The cottage is lovely for a summers holiday. Its location is ideal. You can cut down through the pedestrian part of the road to the Angel Inn in minutes. No outdoor furniture? Too cold anyway but not there should you have wanted to sit outside with your dog. Main garden isn’t totally dog friendly, they can get into next door and mine is no escape artist so they need watching. Parking is great, space is compact but perfectly adequate. We found it better to reverse in so you can drive out. Would we return to Oak cottage? in the summer without hesitation but it the winter months unfortunately not. Downstairs is just too cold and draughty.

Thank you for your feedback, your comments have been noted and raised with maintenance. We look forward to welcoming you in the future summer months. Property Owner

Unfortunately, the cottage wasn't a clean as last time nor as I would expect from Lake Lovers (happy to provide further feedback if asked). It was also disappointing not to have a small welcome pack - we've always been provided with a few teabags and a pint of milk in the past. Not the end of the world but would have been helpful to be advised of the change when booking (especially as price went up quite a bit after having to change dates due to lockdown restrictions). It won't necessarily stop us staying here again but we will be comparing against other cottages.

The wow factor upon arrival was ruined by a laundry basket full of dirty towels and a toilet with wee and long dark hair in. This was topped off by the small skid mark on the loo seat! • "Lovely cottage in the heart of Bowness close to all amenities."

The parking space, although a bonus was quite a challenge even for an expert driver in a small car, given the row of cars parked opposite at the side of the narrow road and the size of the neighbour’s car which shares the space and which was not moved the whole week. In addition it is not possible to simply drive out of the space, you have to drive out and then reverse down Craig Walk to the junction of Biskey Howe Road to get on your way which again is challenging with the narrowness of the road, cars parked on the road and cars coming down Craig Walk to the junction. The steps from the gate down to the front door are initially steep and narrow and are really not suitable for anyone even slightly infirm, you really do have to watch your step. The interior is lovely, very well finished. Initially we thought we had very little crockery or cutlery but eventually found it in the dishwasher, thankfully all spotlessly clean. Beds are a great size, very comfortable and clean. Ensuite a bit petite but I guess they are making the best of the limited space available. All in all an enjoyable holiday.
