  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, was warm, welcoming and comfortable in beautiful surroundings."

Enjoyed feeding and watching the wildlife. Some things that would have made our stay even better were a hand rail leading down along the three steps to the back door also a hand rail on the hall stairway on the opposite side to the existing one and taken to the bottom stair to make it safer. The description should mention it is tricky pulling out on to the road from the house, as the traffic is quite busy both day and night it is fast and you have to rely on windows down to hear approaching traffic would a roadside mirror be possible opposite the gate. Finally it is the only property we have ever been to that doesn’t even have the basic starter pack of dishcloth, washing sponge, two dishwasher tablets. Overall we would recommend The Whins to family and friends but would mention our minor concerns.

We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Whins in its beautiful surroundings and found it welcoming, warm and comfortable. We do constantly strive to make all our guests' stay as enjoyable as possible, so thank you for making some suggestions to improve that, which we will look into. Regarding a starter pack, we do provide a dishcloth, washing sponge and some dishwasher tablets, which are put in the cupboard under the sink, and so were sorry to hear you did not find them, but I will make sure they are put out for each guest. We are glad to hear you would recommend The Whins to family and friends and hope to welcome them in the future. Property Owner

  • "Wow such a beautiful cottage and in a superb location; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Whins it was so welcoming, comfortable, and well equipped."

It was a privilege staying there, the decor was so in keeping with the character of the property, plus the garden and surrounding scenery was superb. Our only suggestion would be a more updated kitchen as this seemed a little tired. Everything was as described and more. We only discovered on the last day where the garden furniture cushions are kept and that we could have turned on the central heating, but that was our fault for not reading the introduction manual to the cottage in more detail! Few minor niggles (1) on arrival no welcome pack, which was disappointing considering the price (2) upon arrival few crumbs on the kitchen floor and on surfaces, plus few stains inside kitchen cupboards, and coffee grounds at the bottom of the caddy from the previous visitor, (3) and most disappointing was the separate electric shower as the water flow is poor and the water temperature was dangerously hot (in fact scalding) at times when the temperature surged, despite trying to keep the temperature consistent, this meant that for the majority of the shower it was tepid or cold as frightened of being burnt, we gave it up as a bad job, we took baths instead using the over bath shower. These minor points wouldn’t prevent us from booking to stay again. Thank you again for such a wonderful cottage, we have some great memories of our stay and we look forward to staying again at some point in the future.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We were delighted to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your stay at the Whins, and thank you for all your lovely compliments. Regarding your suggestion re the kitchen, we will be carrying out an exciting extension of The Whins at the end of next year, with a new large kitchen, a sun-room area off it overlooking the garden and a new bedroom and ensuite bathroom above. The present kitchen will become a utility area and there will be a new entrance hall and there will be downstairs shower and toilet, hence not updating the present kitchen at this stage. We were sorry to hear you were disappointed that there was no welcome pack. Lakelovers stopped providing these packs fairly recently, and we had found that guests did not really use these, apart from the biscuits! However, I am in the process of setting up my own packs. I was sorry to hear that you found a few crumbs on the kitchen floor and surfaces and some coffee in the caddy - I have notified my cleaner about these so it will not happen again. Regarding the Mira electric shower, we are sorry that you had issues with the heating control, as it is fairly new, and we haven't had any issues with it ourselves when we have stayed, so thank you for pointing this out. I am taking this up with our electrician who installed it. We are really delighted to hear that you have great memories of your stay, and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Whins again. • "First class accommodation."

Beautiful traditional cottage, modernized enough but still retaining original features which we loved. Very homely. Garden and seating areas outside were perfect when we had the sunshine. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. We are always so pleased to hear that guests have enjoyed their stay at The Whins. When we carried out all the refurbishments our aim was to keep the Arts and Crafts features and try to furnish it in a complimentary way, yet still keeping it 'homely', so we were delighted to receive your comments. We are also pleased you had some good weather and could enjoy the garden and the seating areas. Thank you so much for recommending our lovely holiday home, and we hope to welcome you back again sometime too! Property Owner

Sykes are totally useless and as good as uncontactable, but the owner (Christine) was generous and fast with her communication - not that we had anything go wrong. We enjoyed feeding the birds and befriending a couple of tame ducks and will certainly book again when we next stay in that part of the world.

A heating problem on arrival was quickly resolved by the owner. I tried to contact lakelovers, you were unavailable. As always contact with owners provides better results than agents. A phone number /email address would be useful I had to ferret it out from paperwork at the property. Just as well the house was so comfortable since the Lake District weather was atrocious for most of the week.We are used to mountain weather!!

Thank you so much for your feedback and excellent scoring. We were so pleased you found The Whins very comfortable and well equipped, particularly as the weather wasn’t good and you couldn’t get out much. Hopefully you will return again in better weather and enjoy the mountains as well! Property Owner

  • "Spacious, well equipped, fantastic TV."

Negative: noise from nearby road, beds in need of an upgrade.

Thank you for your comments and we are pleased you found the house well equipped and enjoyed the large smart television! We are sorry you found you heard noise from the road, which is the first time anyone has commented on this, as all the windows are double glazed and at night there is very little traffic. We are also sorry you thought that the beds were in need of an upgrade - again, no-one has commented negatively on them - in fact recent feedback commented on how comfortable they were. The super-king bed and the double bed were both purchased new just over 18 months ago and have good quality expensive mattresses. We ourselves use these beds when we come to stay regularly and would certainly upgrade them if we felt that was necessary, as we have high quality beds at home. Property Owner

The property was well maintained, had all the features we could have hoped for and even clear instruction manuals to help us with our stay. It was also in a lovely location close to nature and a short drive to the local town, lakes and hiking trails. The owner, Christine, was extremely friendly and helpful when we sent some questions about the property. We would absolutely recommend this cottage for a holiday.

Thank you so much for your lovely positive feedback and recommendation. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Whins. • "The Whins is a beautiful property, with plenty of outside space."

Very comfortable beds and furniture; a large screen TV, and good quality furnishings and equipment. It was let down by the provision of little sachets of long life milk, a pint of fresh milk in the fridge would have been appreciated as would a spare toilet roll!

Many thanks for your feedback. We are so pleased you liked The Whins and found the beds and furniture comfortable - we do strive to provide a really good experience for our guests, so your comments re providing a pint of fresh milk are very helpful, and I will see if this is something we can arrange going forwards. I am very sorry that you found there wasn't a spare toilet roll, as there should have been two. At each changeover, the cleaner puts a new roll on the holder and a spare one on a shelf of the table stand next to the toilet to start guests off with, so I will find out on this occasion why this wasn't done and make sure there is always a spare toilet roll provided at the start of each guests' stay. Thank you again. Property Owner
